Abstract
Herein, we present a general approach for synthesizing pluramycin hybrids, which are analogous to the pluramycinone carbocyclic skeleton. This method involves a sequence of relay ring-closing enyne metathesis, Diels-Alder and oxidative aromatization reactions to synthesize pluramycinone-sugar hybrids. As part of our ongoing research, we have successfully synthesized two pluramycin hybrid analogues by carefully monitoring the late-stage oxidative aromatization steps, which depend on the stereo-orientation of the Diels-Alder cycloadduct at the C-4 center. The undesired ring-opening product can also serve as a C-glycoside analog, providing a versatile convergent route to access both types of hybrids and highlighting the significance of this strategy.

Abstract
The enantioselective trifluoromethylthiolation of β-ketoesters using chiral copper-boxmi complexes as catalysts is reported. A number of α-SCF3-substituted β-ketoesters have been obtained with up to >99% enantiomeric excess (ee), and the trifluoromethylthiolated products were then transformed diastereoselectively to α-SCF3-β-hydroxyesters with two adjacent quaternary stereocenters.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed carbonylation reactions of aromatic halides in the presence of various nucleophiles have undergone rapid development since the pioneering work of Heck and co-workers in 1974, such that nowadays a plethora of palladium catalysts are available for different carbonylative transformations. The carboxylic acid derivatives, aldehydes, and ketones prepared in this way are important intermediates in the manufacture of dyes, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other industrial products. In this Review, the recent academic developments in this area and the first industrial processes are summarized.

Abstract
A general protocol for the cyanation of aryl halides with the nontoxic cyanide source K4[Fe(CN)6] using copper catalysis and a ligand system based on 1-alkylimidazoles is presented. The advantages of this system are the high selectivity, a unique substrate range, easy handling, and inexpensive reagents.

Abstract
The reactivity of palladium(0) complexes, [Pd(0) (2)(dba-n,n'-Z)(3)] (n,n'-Z=4,4'-F; 4,4'-CF(3); 4,4'-H; 4,4'-MeO) and [Pd(0)(dba-n,n'-Z)(2)] (n,n'-Z=4,4'-CF(3); 4,4'-H; 3,3',5,5'-OMe), used as precursor catalysts with suitable donor ligands (e.g. phosphines, N-heterocyclic carbenes), has been correlated in several palladium(0)-mediated cross-coupling processes. Increasing the electron density on the aryl moiety of the dba-n,n'-Z ligand increases the overall catalytic activity in the majority of these processes. This effect primarily derives from destabilization of the L(n)Pd(0)-eta(2)-dba interaction (in dpi-pi* synergic bonding, n=1 or 2), which ultimately increases the global concentration of catalytically active L(n)Pd(0) available for reaction with aryl halide in the first committed step in the general catalytic cycle(s) (oxidative addition). Decreasing electron density on the aryl moiety of the dba-n,n'-Z ligand stabilizes the Pd(0)-eta(2)-dba interaction, reducing catalytic activity. The specific type of dba-n,n'-Z ligand appears to also play a stabilizing role in the catalytic cycle, preventing Pd agglomeration, and increasing catalyst longevity. A subtle balance therefore exists between the L(n)Pd(0) concentration (and the associated catalytic activity) and catalyst longevity. Changing the type of dba-n,n'-Z ligand controls the concentration of L(n)Pd(0) and the rate of the oxidative addition step, and not other intimate steps within the catalytic cycle(s), for example, transmetallation (or carbopalladation) and reductive elimination. The role of dba-n,n'-Z ligands in Heck arylation is more convoluted and dependent on the alkene substrate employed, although trends have emerged. Changes in the structure of dba-n,n'-Z had a minimal affect on Buchwald-Hartwig aryl amination processes. A secondary Michael reaction of dba-n,n'-Z with amine and/or base effectively lessens its interference in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract
(R)-(+)-Sclareolide 1 has been used as a starting material to develop a diversity oriented methodology to access hispanane 28 a, and hispanane-like derivatives 27 b-27 e. This methodology is based on the intramolecular Friedel-Crafts acylation of the corresponding 12-desoxylabdanoic-like acids 27, for the construction of the cycloheptane ring which is characteristic of the hispananes. Acids 27 are obtained from alcohols 20, available by addition of the lithium or magnesium reagents to amide 12 (followed by Luche reduction), or to aldehyde 21. This sequence has resulted in the preparation of hispanane framework 27 a. The versatility of this methodology therefore allows a structural diversity oriented synthesis, since it allows the access to a wide variety of hispanane-like derivatives.
