Syntheses and Crystal Structures of Coinage Metal Thioether-Thiolato Complexes

Perhalophenyl Three-Coordinate Gold(I) Complexes as TADF Emitters: A Photophysical Study from Experimental and Computational Viewpoints

We report the synthesis of novel perhalophenyl three-coordinated gold(I) complexes using 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (dppBz) as the chelating ligand and [AuR(tht)] (R = C₆F₅, C₆Cl₂F₃, C₆Cl₅) as the perhalophenyl-gold(I) source, leading to [AuR(dppBz)] (R = C₆F₅ (1), C₆Cl₂F₃ (2), C₆Cl₅ (3)) complexes. The solid-state structures of compounds 2 and 3 consist of discrete three-coordinated Au(I) complexes, which show a distorted trigonal planar geometry for the gold center with dissimilar Au-P distances. The distorted structural arrangement is closely related to its photophysical properties. The studied complexes display very intense emissions at room temperature (RT) and at 77 K in the solid state. Studies of the emissive properties of the complexes at different temperatures suggest that the emissions are phosphorescent at 77 K and exhibit thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) at RT. First-principle calculations of the photophysical processes yielded rate constants for intersystem crossing and reverse intersystem crossing that are in excellent agreement with experimental data.

Triphenylphosphine adducts of silver di-iso-propyl dithiophosphate

The molecular structure of dimeric {[S2P(OiPr)2](PPh3)}2· 2 CHCl3is built up about a centrosymmetric eight-membered ring that adopts a chair conformation as a result of bidentate bridging dithiophos phate ligands. The silver atom is in a trigonal planar geometry. Relatively close transannular Ag…S interactions are noted which, if considered significant, leads to a tridentate dithiophosphate ligand and a distorted tetrahedral geometry for silver. The presence of two PPh3molecules in the coordination sphere of silver in monomeric Ag[S2P(OiPr)2](PPh3)2· 3 CHCl3as well as a bidentate di thiophosphate ligand gives rise to a tetrahedral geometry. Adducts with lower or greater numbers of PPh3ligands could not be obtained pointing to the inherent stability of the characterised structures.

Asymmetric sulfur atom coordination in a copper(ii) dipicolylamine (DPA) complex with a thioglycoside ligand

The 2,2'-dipicolylamine (DPA)-tethered thioglycoside ligand, N,N-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-2-aminoethyl 1-deoxy-1-thio-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-beta-d-glucopyranoside (sL1), has been prepared and its copper(II) complex synthesized. Using copper(II) chloride, the copper complex was isolated as a chloride-bound species formulated as [Cu(sL1)Cl(ClO(4))](1). The corresponding O-glycoside complex ([Cu(L1)Cl](ClO(4)), 2) was also prepared using L1 (N,N-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-2-aminoethyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-beta-d-glucopyranoside), and both complexes were characterized and compared by means of X-ray crystallography, cyclic voltammetry, electronic absorption and circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Although both complexes exhibited similar copper coordination geometries, the absolute configuration of the O/S chiral center generated by the copper coordination was inverted. The electronic and CD spectra of acetonitrile solutions of 1 and 2 were different likely due to the presence of a copper-sulfur charge-transfer band for 1. Complex also exhibits a large Cotton effect around 700 nm. The corresponding d-d transition of the copper(II) center reveals that the asymmetric copper-sulfur (oxygen) coordination remains even in solution.
