Abstract
3-Amino-3-deoxyglycosides constitute an essential class of nitrogen-containing sugars. Among them, many important 3-amino-3-deoxyglycosides possess a 1,2-trans relationship. In view of their numerous biological applications, the synthesis of 3-amino-3-deoxyglycosyl donors giving rise to a 1,2-trans glycosidic linkage is thus an important challenge. Even though glycals are highly polyvalent donors, the synthesis and reactivity of 3-amino-3-deoxyglycals have been little studied. In this work, we describe a new sequence, involving a Ferrier rearrangement and subsequent aza-Wacker cyclization that allows the rapid synthesis of orthogonally protected 3-amino-3-deoxyglycals. Finally a 3-amino-3-deoxygalactal derivative was submitted for the first time to an epoxidation/glycosylation with high yield and great diastereoselectivity, highlighting FAWEG (Ferrier/Aza-Wacker/Epoxidation/Glycosylation) as a new approach to access 1,2-trans 3-amino-3-deoxyglycosides.

Abstract
Diastereoselective aza-Wacker cyclization of O-allyl hemiaminals under aerobic conditions enables efficient access to 1,2-aminoalcohol derivatives from allylic alcohols. The scope of this method is presented and its utility is highlighted in a streamlined synthesis of the biologically important aminosugar (–)-acosamine.

Abstract
Although the Burgess reagent (methoxycarbonylsulfamoyltriethylammonium hydroxide, inner salt) has found significant use in chemical synthesis as a dehydrating agent, almost no work has been directed towards its potential in other synthetic applications. As this article will detail, we have found that the Burgess reagent is remarkably effective at accomplishing a number of non-dehydrative synthetic tasks when applied to appropriate substrates, such as the formation of sulfamidates from 1,2-diols or epoxyalcohols, alpha- and beta-glycosylamines from carbohydrates, and cyclic sulfamides from 1,2-aminoalcohols. Beyond delineating the power of these new reaction manifolds, we also describe the construction of a group of alternative Burgess-type reagents that extends the scope of these new reactions even further.

Abstract
o-Iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX), a highly versatile hypervalent iodine(V) reagent, was found to efficiently mediate the dehydrogenation of amines in addition to facilitating the oxidative cleavage of dithioacetals and dithioketals. Through the development of relevant IBX-based protocols, a plethora of useful synthetic intermediates, including imines, oximes, ketones, and aromatic N-heterocycles, were found to be readily accessible under notably mild conditions. Further investigation of these transformations led to the elucidation of valuable mechanistic details, resulting in the conclusion that they proceed via ionic rather than single electron transfer (SET) pathways.
