Abstract
We present an in-depth study of the sterically demanding Cp-synthon (8-H-GuaH)Li isolated from natural product guaiazulene (Gua) as a ligand transfer reagent towards late transition metal complex precursors. The synthesis and full characterization of selected, essentially unexplored homo- and heteroleptic 8-H-guaiazulenide complexes of iron, ruthenium, cobalt, rhodium, platinum, copper and zinc are discussed in detail. In order to demonstrate their potential in catalytic applications, [(GuaH)PtMe3 ] was selected. The latter proved an even higher catalytic activity in light induced olefin hydrosilylation at catalyst loads as low as 5 ppm than classical [CpPtMe3 ] in a typical test reaction of silicone elastomer fabrication. Our results demonstrate that traditional petrochemical based Cp metal chemistry and catalysis can be replaced, sometimes even outmatched by superior catalysts based on cheap building blocks from renewable feedstock.

Structure-property relationships of photofunctional diiridium(II) complexes with tetracationic charge and an unsupported Ir-Ir bond. Commun Chem 2022; 5:159. Abstract
In contrast to the extensively studied dirhodium(II) complexes and iridium(III) complexes, neutral or dicationic dinuclear iridium(II) complexes with an unsupported ligand are underdeveloped. Here, a series of tetracationic dinuclear iridium(II) complexes, featuring the unsupported Ir(II)-Ir(II) single bond with long bond distances (2.8942(4)-2.9731(4) Å), are synthesized and structurally characterized. Interestingly, compared to the previous unsupported neutral or dicationic diiridium(II) complexes, our DFT and high-level DLPNO-CCSD(T) results found the largest binding energy in these tetracationic complexes even with the long Ir(II)-Ir(II) bond. Our study further reveals that London dispersion interactions enhance the stability cooperatively and significantly to overcome the strong electrostatic repulsion between two half dicationic metal fragments. This class of complexes also exhibit photoluminescence in solution and solid states, which, to our knowledge, represents the first example of this unsupported dinuclear iridium(II) system. In addition, their photoreactivity involving the generation of iridium(II) radical monomer from homolytic cleavage was also explored. The experimental results of photophysical and photochemical behaviours were also correlated with computational studies.

Abstract
Oxidative addition of 1.5 equiv of bromine or iodine to a Ir(I) sulfoxide pincer complex affords the corresponding Ir(IV) tris-bromido or tris-iodido complexes, respectively. The unprecedented trap-free reductive elimination of iodine from the Ir(IV)-iodido complex is induced by coordination of ligands or donor solvents. In the case of added I-, the isostructural tris-iodo Ir(III)-ate complex is quickly generated, which then can be readily reoxidized to the Ir(IV)-iodido complex with FcPF6 or electrochemically. DFT calculations indicate an "inverted ligand field" in the Ir(IV) complexes and favor dinuclear pathways for the reductive elimination of iodine from the formal d5 metal center.

Abstract
A detailed investigation of the electronic structure of diazinediimine iron complexes and their comparison with the pyridine analogues reveals subtle but important differences, imparted by the supporting heterocycle. In the case of LFe(CO)2 complexes (L = pyrazine- and pyrimidinediimine), the characterization of three available redox states confirmed that whereas the nature of the electron-transfer processes is similar, the differences in π-acidity of the supporting heterocycle significantly affect the redox potentials. The reduction of LFe(CO)2 can yield either a ligand-centered radical (for L = pyrimidine) or a C-C-bonded dimer (for L = pyrazine), supported by a dearomatized core. In the latter case, the C-C bond can be reversibly cleaved oxidatively. Compared to the carbonyl analogues, employing weak-field N2 ligands triggers changes in electronic structure for the neutral and reduced LFe(N2) complexes (L = pyrimidinediimine). En route to the synthesis of the nitrogen complexes, the square-planar LFeCl (L = pyrimidinediimine) was isolated. The monoradical character of the supporting chelate triggers the asymmetric distribution of electron density around the heterocycle.

Abstract
The homoleptic rhodium pyridine complex [Rh(py)4]+ ([1]+) is prepared from simple precursors. Lacking good π-acceptor ligands but being sterically protected, [1]+ reversibly oxidizes to colorless [Rh(py)4(thf)2]2+. This monomeric S = 1/2 Rh(II) complex activates H2 to give [HRh(py)4L]2+, which can also be generated by protonation of [1]+. The Rh(III)-H bond is weak, being susceptible to H atom abstraction as well as deprotonation. These results underpin a novel catalytic system for the oxidation of H2 by ferrocenium.

Abstract
Species with 2-center, 3-electron (2c/3e- ) σ bonds are of interest owing to their fascinating electronic structures and potential for interesting reactivity patterns. Report here is the synthesis and characterization of a pair of zerovalent (d9 ) trigonal pyramidal Rh and Ir complexes that feature 2c/3e- σ bonds to the Si atom of a tripodal tris(phosphine)silatrane ligand. X-ray diffraction, continuous wave and pulse electron paramagnetic resonance, density-functional theory calculations, and reactivity studies have been used to characterize these electronically distinctive compounds. The data available highlight a 2c/3e- bonding framework with a σ*-SOMO of metal 4- or 5dz 2 parentage that is partially stabilized by significant mixing with Si (3pz ) and metal (5- or 6pz ) orbitals. Metal-ligand covalency thus buffers the expected destabilization of transition-metal (TM)-silyl σ*-orbitals by d-p mixing, affording well-characterized examples of TM-main group, and hence polar, 2c/3e- σ "half-bonds".

Abstract
[Cp*Rh] complexes (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) are attracting renewed interest in coordination chemistry and catalysis, but these useful compounds often undergo net two-electron redox cycling that precludes observation of individual one-electron reduction events. Here, we show that a [Cp*Rh] complex bearing the 4,4'-dinitro-2,2'-bipyridyl ligand (dnbpy) (3) can access a distinctive manifold of five oxidation states in organic electrolytes, contrasting with prior work that found no accessible reductions in aqueous electrolyte. These states are readily generated from a newly isolated and fully characterized rhodium(III) precursor complex 3, formulated as [Cp*Rh(dnbpy)Cl]PF₆. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) data, previously unavailable for the dnbpy ligand bound to the [Cp*Rh] platform, confirm the presence of both [η⁵-Cp*] and [κ²-dnbpy]. Four individual one-electron reductions of 3 are observed, contrasting sharply with the single two-electron reductions of other [Cp*Rh] complexes. Chemical preparation and the study of the singly reduced species with electronic absorption and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies indicate that the first reduction is predominantly centered on the dnbpy ligand. Comparative cyclic voltammetry studies with [NBu₄][PF₆] and [NBu₄][Cl] as supporting electrolytes indicate that the chloride ligand can be lost from 3 by ligand exchange upon reduction. Spectroelectrochemical studies with ultraviolet (UV)-visible detection reveal isosbestic behavior, confirming the clean interconversion of the reduced forms of 3 inferred from the voltammetry with [NBu₄][PF₆] as supporting electrolyte. Electrochemical reduction in the presence of triethylammonium results in an irreversible response, but does not give rise to catalytic H₂ evolution, contrasting with the reactivity patterns observed in [Cp*Rh] complexes bearing bipyridyl ligands with less electron-withdrawing substituents.

Abstract
A novel ambiguous reactivity of Li/Cl phosphinidenoid complexes under redox conditions is described. The outcome of the reaction with hexafluoroacetone is highly dependent on the P-substituent as fluoride substitution occurred in the case of R = CPh3 and C5Me5via a radical pathway, whereas for R = CH(SiMe3)2 a complex having a novel 1,2-diol-type P-ligand was obtained via a closed-shell pathway. DFT calculations reveal a new SET pathway starting with a noncovalent π-hole complex between the phosphinidenoid anion and hexafluoroacetone followed by an elimination of LiF. The second, closed-shell reaction course is strongly influenced by a noncovalent OSi interaction established after the initial nucleophilic attack.

Abstract
The thermally stable [(tBuMe2 Si)2 M] (M=Zn, Hg) generate R3 Si(.) radicals in the presence of [(dmpe)Pt(PEt3 )2 ] at 60-80 °C. The reaction proceeds via hexacoordinate Pt complexes, (M=Zn (2 a and 2 b), M=Hg (3 a and 3 b)) which were isolated and characterized. Mild warming or photolysis of 2 or 3 lead to homolytic dissociation of the Pt-MSiR3 bond generating silyl radicals and novel unstable pentacoordinate platinum paramagnetic complexes (M=Zn (5), Hg (6)) whose structures were determined by EPR spectroscopy and DFT calculations.

Abstract
Reversible proton- and electron-transfer steps are crucial for various chemical transformations. The electron-reservoir behavior of redox non-innocent ligands and the proton-reservoir behavior of chemically non-innocent ligands can be cooperatively utilized for substrate bond activation. Although site-decoupled proton- and electron-transfer steps are often found in enzymatic systems, generating model metal complexes with these properties remains challenging. To tackle this issue, we present herein complexes [(cod-H)M(μ-L(2-)) M(cod-H)] (M = Pt(II), [1] or Pd(II), [2], cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene, H2L = 2,5-di-[2,6-(diisopropyl)anilino]-1,4-benzoquinone), in which cod acts as a proton reservoir, and L(2-) as an electron reservoir. Protonation of [2] leads to an unusual tetranuclear complex. However, [1] can be stepwise reversibly protonated with up to two protons on the cod-H ligands, and the protonated forms can be stepwise reversibly reduced with up to two electrons on the L(2-) ligand. The doubly protonated form of [1] is also shown to react with OMe(-) leading to an activation of the cod ligands. The site-decoupled proton and electron reservoir sources work in tandem in a three-way cooperative process that results in the transfer of two electrons and two protons to a substrate leading to its double reduction and protonation. These results will possibly provide new insights into developing catalysts for multiple proton- and electron-transfer reactions by using metal complexes of non-innocent ligands.

Abstract
Abstract
The Cu(II)-phenoxyl radical formed during the catalytic cycle of galactose oxidase (GO) attracted much attention, and the structures and properties of a number of metal-phenoxyl radical complexes have been studied. Some of the functional model systems of GO reported previously have shown that the Cu complexes oxidize primary alcohols to aldehydes and that the Cu(II)-phenoxyl radical species is formed in the catalytic cycle. Many Cu(II)-phenoxyl radical species have been produced by one-electron oxidation of the Cu(II)-phenolate complexes. On the other hand, one-electron oxidation of a Cu(II)-phenolate complex has the possibility to give different electronic structures, one of which is the Cu(III)-phenolate. From these points of view, this micro review is focused on the one-electron oxidized square-planar Cu(II) complexes of the salen-type ligands. Introduction of substituents into the phenolate moieties and conversion from a 5- to a 6-membered chelate backbone alter the electronic structure of the one-electron oxidized Cu(II) complexes and give rise to a different reactivity of benzyl alcohol oxidation. The relationship between the electronic structure and the reactivity is herein discussed.

Abstract
A series of Cp*IrIII dimers have been synthesized to elucidate the mechanistic viability of radical oxo-coupling pathways in iridium-catalyzed O2 evolution. The oxidative stability of the precursors toward nanoparticle formation and their oxygen evolution activity have been investigated and compared to suitable monomeric analogues. We found that precursors bearing monodentate NHC ligands degraded to form nanoparticles (NPs), and accordingly their O2 evolution rates were not significantly influenced by their nuclearity or distance between the two metals in the dimeric precursors. A doubly chelating bis-pyridine-pyrazolide ligand provided an oxidation-resistant ligand framework that allowed a more meaningful comparison of catalytic performance of dimers with their corresponding monomers. With sodium periodate (NaIO4) as the oxidant, the dimers provided significantly lower O2 evolution rates per [Ir] than the monomer, suggesting a negative interaction instead of cooperativity in the catalytic cycle. Electrochemical analysis of the dimers further substantiates the notion that no radical oxyl-coupling pathways are accessible. We thus conclude that the alternative path, nucleophilic attack of water on high-valent Ir-oxo species, may be the preferred mechanistic pathway of water oxidation with these catalysts, and bimolecular oxo-coupling is not a valid mechanistic alternative as in the related ruthenium chemistry, at least in the present system.

Abstract
Squaring the circle: the novel dienamido pincer ligand N(CHCHPtBu(2))(2)(-) affords the isolation of the unusual square-planar iridium(II) and iridium(III) amido complexes [IrCl{N(CHCHPtBu(2))(2)}](n) (n=0 (1), +1 (2)). In contrast, the corresponding iridium(I) complex of the redox series (n=-1) is surprisingly unstable. The diamagnetism of 2 is attributed to strong N→Ir π donation.
