Abstract
A novel and convenient K2S2O8-mediated diiodo cyclization of 1,6-enynes for the facile synthesis of functionalized γ-lactam derivatives has been developed. This reaction features mild and transition-metal-free conditions, which offer a green and efficient entry to synthetically important γ-lactam scaffolds. Mechanistic studies suggest that iodide radicals initiate the cascade cyclic transformation.

Abstract
A Pd-catalyzed one-pot cascade consisting of C-C/C-O/N-N bond formation to access clinically important fused 1,2,3-triazoles using N-aryl-α-(tosylhydrazone)acetamides with isocyanide has been developed. Besides, various substitutions on the N-aryl part of acetamides along with different isocyanides show good compatibility in this protocol. Next, two plausible mechanistic routes were proposed; however, one of the routes was more favourable which involved the formation of a benzoxazine ring first followed by the realization of a triazole ring. Additionally, the more favourable mechanistic route was investigated using DFT studies which suggests that the formations of a Pd(II)-isocyanide complex and α-diazoimino intermediates were key steps in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract
The Pd-catalyzed intramolecular carbene C–H insertion of α-diazo-α-(methoxycarbonyl)acetamides to prepare oxindoles as well as β-lactams was studied. In order to identify what factors influence the selectivity of the processes, we explored how the reactions are affected by the catalyst type, using two oxidation states of Pd and a variety of ligands. It was found that, in the synthesis of oxindoles, ((IMes)Pd(NQ))2 can be used as an alternative to Pd2(dba)3 to catalyze the carbene CArsp2–H insertion, although it was less versatile. On the other hand, it was demonstrated that the Csp3–H insertion leading to β-lactams can be effectively promoted by both Pd(0) and Pd(II) catalysts, the latter being most efficient. Insight into the reaction mechanisms involved in these transformations was provided by DFT calculations.

Abstract
We have established a method for the highly regio- and enantioselective functionalization of tert-butyl groups via intramolecular amide carbene insertion into C-H bonds, yielding γ-lactams with 91% ee in up to 99% yield. This reaction uses a ruthenium(II) phenyl oxazoline (Ru(II)-Pheox) complex. The catalytic intramolecular carbene transfer reaction to the primary C-H bond proceeds rapidly and selectively compared to that with secondary C-H, benzylic secondary C-H, tert-C-H, or sp2C-H bonds in the presence of 1 mol % Ru(II)-Pheox catalyst. This is the first example of a catalytic carbenoid insertion into an unactivated tert-butyl group with enantiocontrol at the carbenoid carbon.

Abstract
Methionine, S-benzylcysteine and S-allylcysteine were converted into 2-diazo-3-oxo-4-phthalimidocarboxylic esters 8a-c in three steps. Upon rhodium-catalysed dediazoniation, two intramolecular carbenoid reactions competed, namely the formation of a cyclic sulfonium ylide and that of a six-ring carbonyl ylide. The S-methyl and S-benzyl ylides 12a and b could be isolated, while S-allyl ylide 12c underwent a [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement. The short-lived carbonyl ylides derived from methionine and S-benzylcysteine formed head-to-tail dimers by a [3 + 3]-cycloaddition and could be trapped with external dipolarophiles, while the S-allyl derivative 14c yielded the pentacyclic compound 17 by an intramolecular [3 + 2]-cycloaddition reaction.

Abstract
A three-component method for the synthesis of highly substituted gamma-lactams from readily available maleimides, aldehydes, and amines is described. A new reductive amination/intramolecular lactamization sequence provides a straightforward route to the lactam products in a single manipulation. The general utility of this method is demonstrated by the parallel synthesis of a gamma-lactam library.
