Abstract
A photocatalytic annulation cascade of unactivated N-alkene-linked indoles with Langlois' reagent by a radical relay is developed at room temperature under blue LED irradiation. The reaction afforded a series of tri/difluoromethylated pyrrolo[1,2-a]indoles in moderate to good yields. The DFT study suggests that the reaction is ascribed to a rhodamine 6G-induced cyclization cascade involving vinyl addition-radical relay and hydrogen-atom-abstraction (HAA) processes, and interestingly, pyrrolo[1,2-a]indoles are applied as fluorescent dyes into the fluorescence spectrum and live-cell imaging. This paper represents an initial example on photocatalytic cyclization cascades by radical relay and the HAA process.

Abstract
A metal-free protocol for oxidative carbotrifluoromethylation of maleimides with imidazopyridines and Langlois' reagent has been developed using (diacetoxyiodo)benzene (PIDA) as an oxidant. This three-component strategy enables one-step construction of 3,4-disubstituted maleimides in good yields with high functional group tolerance. Both experimental and theoretical studies support the proposed radical reaction mechanism.

Abstract
Due to the increasing relevance of fluorine-containing organic molecules in drug design, the synthesis of organofluorine compounds has gained high significance in synthetic organic chemistry. Trifluoromethylative difunctionalizations of carbon-carbon multiple bonds, with the simultaneous incorporation of a CF 3 group and another functional element, have considerable potential. Because of the high importance of carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions in organic synthesis, carbotrifluoromethylations and, in particular, aryltrifluoromethylations or heteroaryltrifluoromethylations are considered to be increasing fields of synthetic organic chemistry. The aim of the current review is to summarize recent developments of aryltrifluoromethylation or heteroaryltrifluoromethylation reactions.

Abstract
A nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling of allylic alkyl ethers with organoboron compounds through the cleavage of the inert C(sp3)-O(alkyl) bonds is described. Several types of allylic alkyl ethers can be coupled with various boronic acids or their derivatives to give the corresponding products in good to excellent yields with wide functional group tolerance and excellent regioselectivity. The gram-scale reaction and late-stage modification of biologically active compounds further prove the practicality of this synthetic method.

Abstract
![]()
Radical aryl migration
reactions represent a unique type of organic
transformations that involve the intramolecular migration of an aryl
group from a carbon or heteroatom to a C- or heteroatom-centered radical
through a spirocyclic intermediate. Various elements, including N,
O, Si, P, S, Sn, Ge, and Se, have been reported to participate in
radical aryl migrations. However, radical aryl migration from a boron
center has not been reported to date. In this communication, radical
1,5-aryl migration from boron to carbon in aryl boronate complexes
is presented. C-radicals readily generated through radical addition
onto alkenyl aryl boronate complexes are shown to engage in 1,5-aryl
migration reactions to provide 4-aryl-alkylboronic esters. As boronate
complexes can be generated in situ by the reaction
of alkenylboronic acid esters with aryl lithium reagents, the aryl
moiety is readily varied, providing access to a series of arylated
products starting from the same alkenylboronic acid ester via divergent
chemistry. Reactions proceed with high diastereoselectivity under
mild conditions, and also the analogous 1,4-aryl shifts are feasible.
The suggested mechanism is supported by DFT calculations.

Abstract
A visible light induced highly convenient and practical method for the trifluoromethyl-arylation of N-arylmethacrylamides has been developed using Umemoto's reagent as the trifluoromethyl source. This user-friendly approach can proceed under visible light irradiation without any transition metal, photocatalyst and additive at room temperature. The strategy presented here provides access to trifluoromethylated oxindoles in good to excellent yields with a broad functional group tolerance. Preliminary mechanistic experiments indicated that the reaction process involves a homolytic cleavage of Umemoto's reagent irradiated by visible light.

Abstract
A metal- and oxidant-free photoinduced strategy for thioxo sulfur-selective trifluoromethylation of β-ketodithioesters at room temperature is reported. Excellent Z/E-stereoselectivity has been achieved with cheap and viable Langlois' reagent (CF3SO2Na, sodium triflinate) in the presence of eosin Y, which acts as a hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) catalyst. The reaction proceeds via disulfide intermediate disulfanediylbis(3-(alkylthio)-1-phenylprop-2-en-1-one) (a dimer of β-ketodithioester) followed by complementing proton-coupled electron transfer-mediated reverse HAT cycle of eosin Y. This operationally simple and efficient protocol allows direct access to triflinated α-oxoketene dithioacetals in good to excellent yields bearing diverse synthetically useful functional groups of different electronic and steric nature.

Abstract
An efficient iodocarbocyclization of alkenes for the synthesis of iodooxindoles has been developed. This reaction proceeds in a chemoselective manner and shows excellent tolerance of various functional groups, including a chemosensitive hydroxymethyl group. Nonmetal inorganic iodine pentoxide was used as both the oxidant and iodine source, making this protocol very practical. On the basis of experimental observations, a plausible electrophilic reaction mechanism was proposed.

Abstract
A concise and catalyst-free aryltrifluoromethylative cyclization of unactivated alkenes has been developed herein. The use of PhICF3Cl as a powerful trifluoromethylating agent allows easy transformations. A set of trifluoroethylated carbocycles and aza-hereocycles were efficiently synthesized in good yield and selectivity. A broad substrate scope, mild reaction conditions, and easy operation would make this method well-suited for applications.

Abstract
The catalyst-free electrochemical di- and trifluoromethylation/cyclization of N-substituted acrylamides was realized under external oxidant-free conditions. The strategy provides expedient access to fluoroalkylated oxindoles and 3,4-dihydroquinolin-2(1 H)-ones with ample scope and broad functional group tolerance by mild, direct electrolysis of sodium sulfinates in an undivided cell. Detailed mechanistic studies provided strong support for a SET-based reaction manifold.

Abstract
A multi-component radical addition strategy enables difunctionalization of alkenes with heteroarenes and a variety of radical precursors, including N3, P(O)R2, and CF3. This unified approach for coupling diverse classes of electrophilic radicals and heteroarenes to vinyl ethers allows for direct, vicinal C-C as well as C-N, C-P, and C-Rf bond formation.

Abstract
A novel CuBr-catalyzed hydroxytrifluoromethylation reaction was investigated. Substituted 3-benzylidene-2-arylisoindolin-1-ones was reacted with sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate to afford substituted-3-hydroxy-2-aryl-3-(2,2,2-trifluoro-1-arylethyl)isoindolin-1-one. The reaction proceeded at 25 °C in air atmosphere in the absence of base and ligands. Our results indicate that trifluoromethyl free radical tends to attack a double bond rather than aryl in this reaction.

Abstract
Sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate, CF3SO2Na, and trifluoromethanesulfonyl chloride, CF3SO2Cl, are two popular reagents that are widely used for the direct trifluoromethylation of a large range of substrates. Further, these two reagents are employed for the direct trifluoromethylsulfenylation and trifluoromethylsulfinylation, the introduction of the SCF3 and the S(O)CF3 group, respectively. In addition to the aforementioned reactions, the versatility of these two reagents is presented in other reactions such as sulfonylation and chlorination. This first part is dedicated to sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate.
