Abstract
The use of iron as a core metal in catalysis has become a research topic of interest over the last few decades. The reasons are clear. Iron is the most abundant transition metal on Earth's crust and it is widely distributed across the world. It has been extracted and processed since the dawn of civilization. All these features render iron a noncontaminant, biocompatible, nontoxic, and inexpensive metal and therefore it constitutes the perfect candidate to replace noble metals (rhodium, palladium, platinum, iridium, etc.). Moreover, direct C-H functionalization is one of the most efficient strategies by which to introduce new functional groups into small organic molecules. The majority of organic compounds contain C(sp3 )-H bonds. Given the enormous importance of organic molecules in so many aspects of existence, the utilization and bioactivity of C(sp3 )-H bonds are of the utmost importance. This review sheds light on the substrate scope, selectivity, benefits, and limitations of iron catalysts for direct C(sp3 )-H bond activations. An overview of the use of iron catalysis in C(sp3 )-H activation protocols is summarized herein up to 2022.

Abstract
Density functional theory was used to elucidate the reaction mechanism of Cp*IrIII-catalyzed intermolecular regioselective C(sp3)-H amidation of alkenes with methyl dioxazolones. All substrates, intermediates, and transition states were fully optimized at the ωB97XD/6-31G(d,p) level (LANL2DZ(f) for Ir). The computational results revealed that this amidation occurred through the IrIII/IrV catalytic cycle, involving four important elementary steps: C-H bond activation, oxidative addition of methyl dioxazolone, reductive elimination, and proto-demetalation, and the first was the rate-determining step. The C-H bond activation showed good α- and branch-regioselectivity, decided by the distortion energy of 2-pentene and the interaction energy of the transition state, respectively. The oxidative addition of dioxazolone occurred in one elementary step with CO2 disassociation. The reductive elimination showed good branch-regioselectivity determined by the distorted energy of the allyl group. In the proto-demetalation, hydrogen directly transferred from the oxygen atom to the nitrogen atom. Moreover, to clarify the effect of the substituted groups, selected 12 substrates were also discussed in this text.

Abstract
We developed a Cp*Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H arylation of ferrocenethionamides with arylboronic acids for the synthesis of aryl-ferrocenes under mild and base-free conditions, using Ag2 CO3 as oxidant. The reaction results in high yields and excellent regioselectivity accommodating a broad scope of substrate range and functional group compatibility, and provides an alternative protocol for the generation of highly functionalized aryl-ferrocene compounds.

Abstract
![]()
Cobalt-catalyzed C–H amination via M-nitrenoid
species is
spiking the interest of the research community. Understanding this
process at a molecular level is a challenging task, and here we report
a well-defined macrocyclic system featuring a pseudo-Oh aryl-CoIII species that
reacts with aliphatic azides to effect intramolecular Csp2–N bond formation. Strikingly, a putative aryl-Co=NR
nitrenoid intermediate species is formed and is rapidly trapped by
a carboxylate ligand to form a carboxylate masked-nitrene, which functions
as a shortcut to stabilize and guide the reaction to productive intramolecular
Csp2–N bond formation. On one hand, several intermediate
species featuring the Csp2–N bond formed have been
isolated and structurally characterized, and the essential role of
the carboxylate ligand has been proven. Complementarily, a thorough
density functional theory study of the Csp2–N bond
formation mechanism explains at the molecular level the key role of
the carboxylate-masked nitrene species, which is essential to tame
the metastability of the putative aryl-CoIII=NR
nitrene species to effectively yield the Csp2–N
products. The solid molecular mechanistic scheme determined for the
Csp2–N bond forming reaction is fully supported
by both experimental and computation complementary studies. A well-defined pseudo-Oh aryl-CoIII species reacts
with aliphatic azides
to effect intramolecular Csp2−N bond formation via
a carboxylate masked-CoIII-nitrene, which serves as a shortcut
to guide the reaction to productive Csp2−N bond
formation.

Abstract
Herein, we report an iridium-catalyzed directed C-H amination methodology developed using a high-throughput experimentation (HTE)-based strategy, applicable for the needs of automated modern drug discovery. The informer library approach for investigating the accessible directing group chemical space, in combination with functional group tolerance screening and substrate scope investigations, allowed for the generation of reaction application guidelines to aid future users. Applicability to late-stage functionalization of complex drugs and natural products, in combination with multiple deprotection protocols leading to the desirable aniline matched pairs, serve to demonstrate the utility of the method for drug discovery. Finally, reaction miniaturization to a nanomolar range highlights the opportunities for more sustainable screening with decreased material consumption.

Abstract
The Rh-catalyzed reactions of N-pyridinyl enaminones with internal alkynes leading to the synthesis of iminopyranes via a key C-H bond activation and subsequent tautomeric O-H bond cleavage are reported. Moreover, the pyridine ring in the amino group acts as an auxiliary monodentate site for this annulation and can be easily removed by a simple hydrolysis to afford pyranones.

Abstract
A thioether directed acyloxylation of arenes has been realized via Cp*Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation and subsequent coupling with carboxylic acids. This new method showed high functional group compatibility and broad substrate scope. Primary mechanistic studies have been conducted and a tentative reaction mechanism was proposed. It represents the first example of a thioether-directed Cp*Rh(III)-catalyzed C(sp2)-H acyloxylation reaction.
