Amphiphilic Polymer Capped Perovskite Compositing with Nano Zr-MOF for Nanozyme-Involved Biomimetic Cascade Catalysis

Self-supported bimetallic array superstructures for high-performance coupling electrosynthesis of formate and adipate

The coupling electrosynthesis involving CO2 upgrade conversion is of great significance for the sustainable development of the environment and energy but is challenging. Herein, we exquisitely constructed the self-supported bimetallic array superstructures from the Cu(OH)2 array architecture precursor, which can enable high-performance coupling electrosynthesis of formate and adipate at the anode and the cathode, respectively. Concretely, the faradaic efficiencies (FEs) of CO2-to-formate and cyclohexanone-to-adipate conversion simultaneously exceed 90% at both electrodes with excellent stabilities. Such high-performance coupling electrosynthesis is highly correlated with the porous nanosheet array superstructure of CuBi alloy as the cathode and the nanosheet-on-nanowire array superstructure of CuNi hydroxide as the anode. Moreover, compared to the conventional electrolysis process, the cell voltage is substantially reduced while maintaining the electrocatalytic performance for coupling electrosynthesis in the two-electrode electrolyzer with the maximal FEformate and FEadipate up to 94.2% and 93.1%, respectively. The experimental results further demonstrate that the bimetal composition modulates the local electronic structures, promoting the reactions toward the target products. Prospectively, our work proposes an instructive strategy for constructing adaptive self-supported superstructures to achieve efficient coupling electrosynthesis.

Phenanthroline-functionalized donor-acceptor covalent organic frameworks as photo-responsive nanozymes for visual colorimetric detection of isoniazid

Development of metal-free nanozymes has raised concern for their extensive applications in photocatalysis and sensing fields. As novel metal-free nanomaterials, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have engendered intense interest in the construction of nanozymes due to their structural controllability and molecular functionality. The formation of the molecular arrangement by embedding orderly donor-acceptors (D-A) linked in the framework topology to modulate material properties for highly efficient enzyme mimicking activity is of importance but challenging. Here, a strong D-A type of COF was designed and synthesized by integrating electron donor units (pyrene) and electron acceptor units (phenanthroline), named Py-PD COF. Using experiments and theoretical calculations, the introduction of a phenanthroline ring endowed the Py-PD COF with a narrowed band gap, and efficient charge transfer and separation. Further, the Py-PD COF exhibited a superior light-responsive oxidase-mimicking characteristic under visible light irradiation, which could catalyze the oxidation of 3,3',5,5-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and give the corresponding evolution of color. The nanoenzymatic activity of the Py-PD COF was light-regulated, which offers a fascinating advantage because of its high efficiency and spatial controllability. Based on previously mentioned characteristics, an "on-off" sensing platform for the colorimetric analysis of isoniazid (INH) could be constructed with a good linear relationship (2-100 μM) and a low limit of detection (1.26 μM). This research shows that not only is Py-PD COF an environmentally friendly compound for the colorimetric detection of INH, but it is also capable of providing the interesting D-A type COF-based material for designing an excellent nanozyme.

PEI-Mediated Assembly of Fe3O4 onto SiO2-Encapsulated CsPbBr3 for Highly Sensitive Fluorescent Lateral Flow Immunoassay

The conventional lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) method using colloidal gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) as labeling agents faces two inherent limitations, including restricted sensitivity and poor quantitative capability, which impede early viral infection detection. Herein, we designed and synthesized CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dot-based composite nanoparticles, CsPbBr3@SiO2@Fe3O4 (CSF), which integrated fluorescence detection and magnetic enrichment properties into LFIA technology and achieved rapid, sensitive, and convenient quantitative detection of the SARS-CoV-2 virus N protein. In this study, CsPbBr3 served as a high-quantum-yield fluorescent signaling probe, while SiO2 significantly enhanced the stability and biomodifiability of CsPbBr3. Importantly, the SiO2 shell shows relatively low absorption or scattering toward fluorescence, maintaining a quantum yield of up to 74.4% in CsPbBr3@SiO2. Assembly of Fe3O4 nanoparticles mediated by PEI further enhanced the method's sensitivity and reduced matrix interference through magnetic enrichment. Consequently, the method achieved a fluorescent detection range of 1 × 102 to 5 × 106 pg·mL-1 after magnetic enrichment, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 58.8 pg·mL-1, representing a 13.3-fold improvement compared to nonenriched samples (7.58 × 102 pg·mL-1) and a 2-orders-of-magnitude improvement over commercial colloidal gold kits. Furthermore, the method exhibited 80% positive and 100% negative detection rates in clinical samples. This approach holds promise for on-site diagnosis, home-based quantitative tests, and disease procession evaluation.

Amphiphilic Interlayer Regulated Interfacial Polymerization for Constructing Polyamide Nanofiltration Membranes with High Perm-Selectivity of Mono-/Divalent Salts

High-quality thin-film composite (TFC) membranes with high selectivity and permeability have great significance owing to their practical applications, specifically for the accurate differentiation of monovalent and divalent ions. However, the trade-off effect between selectivity and permeability is still a big challenge due to the difficult structure adjustment of the selective layer. Herein, polydopamine (PDA) functionalized with a hydrophobic long alkane chain was first explored as a functional amphiphilic interlayer to synthesize high-quality TFC membranes via a confined interfacial polymerization (IP) reaction. The amphiphilic interlayer not only restricted the formation of the polyamide (PA) matrix in the pores of the substrate but also accelerated spatially more homogeneous polymerization and formed a PA active layer with a more uniform pore size distribution. The method may provide an effective principle for the construction of versatile polyamide-based membranes with high perm-selectivity on various supports. The NaCl/Na2SO4 separation factor of the D-8/PA membrane reached as high as 204.07, while the flux increased up to 25.71 L m-2 h-1 bar-1. This progress provides a more feasible way for the construction of high-quality TFC membranes with a devisable and creative amphiphilic interlayer for industrial application.

Perovskite Nanocrystals: Superior Luminogens for Food Quality Detection Analysis

With the global limited food resources receiving grievous damage from frequent climate changes and ascending global food demand resulting from increasing population growth, perovskite nanocrystals with distinctive photoelectric properties have emerged as attractive and prospective luminogens for the exploitation of rapid, easy operation, low cost, highly accurate, excellently sensitive, and good selective biosensors to detect foodborne hazards in food practices. Perovskite nanocrystals have demonstrated supreme advantages in luminescent biosensing for food products due to their high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield, narrow full width at half-maximum PL, tunable PL in the entire visible spectrum, easy preparation, and various modification strategies compared with conventional semiconductors. Herein, we have carried out a comprehensive discussion concerning perovskite nanocrystals as luminogens in the application of high-performance biosensing of foodborne hazards for food products, including a brief introduction of perovskite nanocrystals, perovskite nanocrystal-based biosensors, and their application in different categories of food products. Finally, the challenges and opportunities faced by perovskite nanocrystals as superior luminogens were proposed to promote their practicality in the future food supply.

Water-stable perovskite-silica nanocomposites for encoded microbeads construction and multiplexed detection

All-inorganic lead halide perovskite nanocrystals exhibiting bright luminescence have great potential as fluorescence elements for optical encoding. However, their limited stability in water hinders the application in biosensing. In this study, novel optical encoded microbeads based on CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br) nanocrystals are developed and applied in bead-based suspension arrays for the first time. Through the in-situ crystallization of CsPbX3 nanocrystals within mesoporous silica nano-templates (MSNs), accompanied by mesopores collapse after sintering, CsPbX3@MSNs (X3M) nanocomposites with uniform morphology and stable fluorescence intensity in aqueous solutions for up to 50 days are obtained. By assembling X3M with microspheres to form a host-guest structure, an optical encoding microbead (MX3M) library is established by varying the X3M ratio, halide composition, and the size of host microspheres, which can be easily decoded under multi-channel flow cytometer. As a result, MX3M exhibits outstanding capacity for specific target capture and negligible nonspecific absorption performance in the multiplex nucleic acid detection of respiratory viruses, with a low limit of detection (10 copies/rxn). This result highlights the tremendous potential of MX3M encoded microbeads constructed based on CsPbX3 nanocrystals for multiplexed bioassays.

Trinity Strategy: Enabling Perovskite as Hydrophilic and Efficient Fluorescent Nanozyme for Constructing Biomarker Reporting Platform

Water instability and sensing homogeneity are the Achilles' heel of CsPbX3 NPs in biological fluids application. This work reports the preparation of Mn2+:CsPbCl3@SiO2 yolk-shell nanoparticles (YSNPs) in aqueous solutions created through the integration of ligand, surface, and crystal engineering strategies. The SN2 reaction between 4-chlorobutyric acid (CBA) and oleylamine (OAm) yields a zwitterionic ligand that facilitates the dispersion of YSNPs in water, while the robust SiO2 shell enhances their overall stability. Besides, Mn2+ doping in YSNPs not only introduces a second emission center but also enables potential postsynthetic designability, leading to the switching from YSNPs to MnO2@YSNPs with excellent oxidase (OXD)-like activity. Theoretical calculations reveal that electron transfer from CsPbCl3 to in situ MnO2 and the adsorption-desorption process of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) synergistically amplify the OXD-like activity. In the presence of ascorbic acid (AA), Mn4+ in MnO2@YSNPs (fluorescent nanozyme) is reduced to Mn2+ and dissociated, thereby inhibiting the OXD-like activity and triggering fluorescence "turn-on/off", i.e., dual-mode recognition. Finally, a biomarker reporting platform based on MnO2@YSNPs fluorescent nanozyme is constructed with AA as the reporter molecule, and the accurate detection of human serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is realized, demonstrating the vast potential of perovskites in biosensing.

A dual-mode green emissive fluorescent probe for real-time detection of doxycycline in milk using a smartphone sensing platform

Real-time quantitative analysis of tetracyclines is urgently needed to provide consumers with early warning of potential risks. Herein, we report a dual-mode green emissive fluorescent probe, which refers to the liquid mode and the solid mode of electrospun films doped with nitride-doped carbon nanosheets (NCNSs) for real-time detection of doxycycline (DOX). Highly fluorescent NCNSs were prepared by low-temperature solid treatment of urea and sodium citrate. With the addition of DOX, the green emission intensity of NCNSs at 475 nm can be obviously reduced. Method validation exhibited a good linear relationship in 0.05-150 μM between the fluorescence quenching of NCNSs and the concentration of DOX with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0127 μM. Furthermore, the immobilization of NCNSs in PAN carriers forming electrospun films stabilizes the green fluorescence of NCNSs. Additionally, electrospun films integrated into a smartphone were developed for real-time detection of DOX with LOD of 0.285 μM. Additionally, DOX in milk was monitored with satisfactory recoveries. Therefore, the integration of the smartphone and electrospun film provides a promising and convenient method for real-time identification of DOX in food analysis.
