Abstract
We described the influence of steric hindrance on the 1,4- versus 1,6-Michael addition reaction on 2-(3,3-bis(methylthio)-1-arylallylidene)malononitriles. An efficient and direct synthesis of trisubstituted furans was achieved through the reaction of 2-(3,3-bis(methylthio)-1-arylallylidene)malononitriles and acetone under mild conditions in good to moderate yield by the 1,4-Michael addition. Further exploration of the reaction with a sterically hindered aryl group containing 2-(3,3-bis(methylthio)-1-arylallylidene)malononitriles afforded biaryls by an in situ generated nucleophile through the 1,6-Michael addition. The synthetic utility of furan is further explored. These precursors are easily accessible from aryl methyl ketones. Various functional groups like alkyl, aryl, nitrile, amine, aroyl, and thiomethyl can be directly installed in the benzene and furan rings. A one-pot approach for the construction of a benzene nucleus was also developed. The structure of two compounds was confirmed by X-ray crystallography.

Abstract
A practical and effective palladium-catalyzed C-H activation/alkene insertion/annulation has been reported for the synthesis of furans and cyclopropanes from cyclic 1,3-diketones or 1,3-indandione and diverse alkenes, resulting in moderate to good yields. This protocol demonstrates excellent selectivity and is well-compatible with a wide range of alkene substrates, exhibiting exceptional regioselectivities, high efficiency, and good functional group tolerance.

Abstract
Titanium enolates, in situ-generated from readily available ketones and titanium tetraisopropoxide, undergo domino cross-coupling/cyclodehydration or domino Aldol-addition/cyclocondensation with α-chloroketones to provide synthetically valuable furan derivatives. The domino process tolerates a variety of cyclic and acyclic ketones and chloroketones, producing polysubstituted furans and bi-, tri-, and tetracyclic fused furans.

Abstract
A base-free and acceptorless Ru-catalyzed dehydrogenative approach has been developed for the synthesis of N-heterocycles by using 1,3-dicarbonyls and amino alcohols through a domino sequential enamine formation and intramolecular oxidative cyclization strategy. This unified approach is also applicable for the synthesis of O-heterocycles involving 2-hydroxybenzyl alcohol as a coupling reactant via consecutive C-alkylation and intramolecular cyclization steps. The present protocol is general for the synthesis of varieties of biologically important scaffolds, such as tetrahydro-4H-indol-4-one, 3,4-dihydroacridin-1(2H)-one, and tetrahydro-1H-xanthen-1-ones derivatives using a single catalytic system, viz. RuH2CO(PPh3)3. Environmentally benign H2O and H2 are the only byproducts in this domino process. Moreover, RuH2CO(PPh3)3-catalyzed C3-alkylation of tetrahydro-4H-indol-4-one using alcohol as a alkylating partner is also described in this report. For the first time, a solvent-free gram-scale reaction for the acceptorless dehydrogenative annulation has been demonstrated. A plausible mechanism for the Ru-catalyzed base-free and acceptorless dehydrogenative annulation of amino alcohols or 2-hydroxybenzyl alcohols has been provided with several experimental investigations and spectroscopic evidence.

Abstract
A method for the selective synthesis of unsymmetrical α-haloketones has been developed. The key transformation is a triphenylphosphine oxide catalyzed reductive halogenation of an α,β-unsaturated ketone in which trichlorosilane is the reducing reagent and an N-halosuccinimide is the electrophilic halogen source. This method allows for a halogen atom to be installed selectively at either of two very similarly substituted sites adjacent to a ketone group.

Abstract
Furans are five-membered aromatic heterocycles containing one oxygen atom that are important
building blocks in organic chemistry, but also as natural products found in various natural
sources, mostly in plants, algae and microorganisms. In this review, we discussed recent advances in the
synthesis of furan compounds. Some classical methods have been modified and improved, while other
new methods have been developed. A vast variety of catalysts was used for these transformations. In
many studies, furan synthesis reaction mechanisms were also investigated and proposed.

Abstract
Reported here is the direct synthesis of naphthofurans and benzofurans from readily available phenols and α-haloketones promoted by titanium tetrachloride which combines Friedel–Crafts-like alkylation and intramolecular cyclodehydration into one step. This simple protocol allows for the formation of a variety of high value naphthofurans and benzofurans within which a series of cyclic and acyclic groups are readily incorporated. This process demonstrates the advantages of high levels of regioselectivity, broad substrate scope, and moderate to excellent yields.
