Abstract
A family of bamboo-like metal-organic nanotubes consisting of in situ synthesized macromolecular blocks (MB) is reported. The MBs are composed of six fac-(CO)3 Re cores, one benzene-1,2,3,4,5,6-hexaolate plate, and six pyridine-derivative pillar ligands, which have a doubly tri-legged geometry and can be mutually assembled, piece by piece. This entire system is characterized as a simple but precise supramolecular complexation of these macromolecular blocks and further introduces an archetypal approach to systematically constructing a tunable form of dissectible molecular bamboo tubes.

Abstract
Under various conditions, water molecules dramatically affect a number of solid-state C-alkylpyrogallol[4]arene assemblies. In the absence of water, hydrogen-bonded hexameric capsules are formed for the C-butyl, pentyl, hexyl, and heptyl pyrogallol[4]arenes. Introduction of water to acetonitrile solutions containing C-propyl-C-octylpyrogallol[4]arenes resulted in the formation of markedly different bilayer structures and the structural identification of two new dimer-type motifs.

Abstract
We report the synthesis and encapsulation properties of long (up to 5 nm) molecular nanotubes 1-4, which are based on calix[4]arenes and can be filled with multiple nitrosonium (NO(+)) ions upon reaction with NO(2)/N(2)O(4) gases. These are among the largest nanoscale molecular containers prepared to date and can entrap up to five guests. The structure and properties of tubular complexes 1(NO(+))(2)-4(NO(+))(5) were studied by UV/Vis, FTIR, and (1)H NMR spectroscopy in solution, and also by molecular modeling. Entrapment of NO(+) in 1(NO(+))(2)-4(NO(+))(5) is reversible, and addition of [18]crown-6 quickly recovers starting tubes 1-4. The FTIR and titration data revealed enhanced binding of NO(+) in longer tubes, which may be due to cooperativity. The described nanotubes may serve as materials for storing and converting NO(x) and also offer a promise to further develop supramolecular chemistry of molecular containers. These findings also open wider perspectives towards applications of synthetic nanotubes as alternatives to carbon nanotubes.

Abstract
Upon complexation with Pd(II) ions, precisely designed strandlike ligands with two tris(3,5-pyridine) units at both terminals were assembled, with the aid of a linear template molecule, into a discrete tubular complex with a length of 3.5 nm. The high stability and the well-defined structure of the coordination nanotube were revealed by NMR spectroscopy, cold-spray ionization MS, and single-crystal X-ray analysis. Guest lengths were discriminated by the tube: When the association of strandlike guest molecules, in which two biphenylene units are linked with an (OCH2CH2)n linker, were compared, the tube selectively recognized an appropriate guest whose length was comparable to that of the tube. Tetrathiafulvalene (TTF)-terminated linear guests were directly oxidized to TTF2+ in the tube, but reduced stepwise via TTF+ outside the tube.

Abstract
In the last few years dipeptides with two hydrophobic residues (hydrophobic dipeptides) have emerged as an unexpected source of stable microporous organic materials. Supramolecular self-assembly of the rather small building blocks is dictated by stringent demands on the hydrogen-bond formation by the peptide main chains and the aggregation of hydrophobic entities in the side chains. A systematic survey of structures derived from single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies has revealed the existence of two large classes of structures, differing in the dimensionality of the hydrogen-bonding patterns in the crystals and the nature of the channels. The present review summarizes the structural properties of the microporous dipeptides and discusses their potential applications.
