Abstract
An efficient fluorinated alcohol-driven cascade [1,5]-hydride transfer/cyclization between o-amino pyridyl aldehydes and primary amines has been developed. This unique transformation enabled an array of tetrahydropyridino[2,3-d]pyrimidine construction. Furthermore, the encouraging antifungal activity of Thanatephorus cucumeris was demonstrated by this tetrahydropyridino[2,3-d]pyrimidine core structure.

Abstract
A transition metal- and hydride-free protocol has been developed for the chemoselective reduction of α-keto esters and α-keto amides using rongalite as a reducing agent. Here, rongalite acts as a hydride-free reducing agent via a radical mechanism. This protocol offers the synthesis of a wide range of α-hydroxy esters and α-hydroxy amides with 85-98% yields. This chemoselective method is compatible with other reducible functionalities such as halides, alkenes, amides, and nitriles. The use of inexpensive rongalite (ca. $0.03/1 g), mild reaction conditions, and gram-scale synthesis are some of the key features of this methodology. Also, cyclandelate, a vasodilator drug, has been synthesized in gram scale with 79% yield.

Abstract
In this paper, the mechanism of asymmetric amination of a racemic alcohol with Ellman's sulfinamide and the origin of diastereoselectivity catalyzed by a Ru-PNP pincer complex were studied using density functional theory (DFT). The mechanism involves dehydrogenation of the racemic alcohol, C-N coupling, and hydrogen transfer from the catalyst to the in situ formed imine. The calculated results indicate that both the alcohol dehydrogenation and imine hydrogenation are stepwise. The hydride transfer from a Ru hydride complex to the imine is shown to be the chirality-determining step in the whole catalytic cycle. It was found that the diastereoselectivity mainly stems from the hydrogen bonding interactions between the oxygen atom of the sulfinyl moiety and the hydrogen atom of the NH group of the ligand.

Abstract
Merging the characteristics of transfer hydrogenation and carbonyl addition, a broad new class of ruthenium(0)-catalyzed cycloadditions has been developed. As discussed in this Minireview, fused or bridged bicyclic ring systems are accessible in a redox-independent manner in C-C bond-forming hydrogen transfer reactions of diols, α-ketols, or 1,2-diones with diverse unsaturated reactants.

Abstract
A TiCl4-mediated reaction for the direct amination of α-hydroxy amides has been developed. This simple, general, additive/base/ligand-free reaction is mediated by economical TiCl4. The reaction runs under mild conditions. This highly efficient C-N bond formation protocol is valid for diverse amines, including primary, secondary and heterocyclic amines, and even a primary amide and indole.

Abstract
Prochiral aminoketones are key intermediates for the synthesis of optically active amino alcohols, and glycerol is one of the main biomass-based alcohols available in industry. In this work, glycerol was catalytically activated and purposefully converted with amines to generate highly valuable prochiral aminoketones, as well as N-formamides and N-methyl amines, over CuNiAlOx catalyst. The catalyst structure can be anticipated as nano-Ni species on or in CuAlOx via the formation of nano- Cu-Ni alloy particles. This concept may present a novel and valuable methodology for glycerol utilization.

Abstract
Direct ruthenium-catalyzed CC coupling of alkynes and vicinal diols to form β,γ-unsaturated ketones occurs with complete levels of regioselectivity and good to complete control over the alkene geometry. Exposure of the reaction products to substoichiometric quantities of p-toluenesulfonic acid induces cyclodehydration to form tetrasubstituted furans. These alkyne-diol hydrohydroxyalkylations contribute to a growing body of merged redox-construction events that bypass the use of premetalated reagents and, hence, stoichiometric quantities of metallic by-products.
