Abstract
The oxidative aminative vicinal difunctionalization of alkenes or related chemical feedstocks has emerged as sustainable and multipurpose strategies that can efficiently construct two -N bonds, and simultaneously prepare the synthetically fascinating molecules and catalysis in organic synthesis that typically required multi-step reactions. This review summarized the impressive breakthroughs on synthetic methodologies (2015-2022) documented especially over inter/intra-molecular vicinal diamination of alkenes with electron-rich or deficient diverse nitrogen sources. These unprecedented strategies predominantly involved iodine-based reagents/catalysts, which resent the interest of organic chemists due to their impressive role as flexible, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly reagents, resulting in a wide variety of synthetically useful organic molecules. Moreover, the information collected also describes the significant role of catalyst, terminal oxidant, substrate scope, synthetic applications, and their unsuccessful results to highlight the limitations. Special emphasis has been given to proposed mechanistic pathways to determine the key factors governing the issues of regioselectivity, enantioselectivity, and diastereoselectivity ratios.

Abstract
A synthetic method has been developed for the preparation of dihalo(pyridinium)sulfuranes and their transformation into alkynylthiopyridinium salts, starting from inexpensive thiopyridones. The reactivity of these salts towards different nucleophiles is evaluated. Most thiols and amines are converted into dithioesters and thioamides, respectively; whereas sterically demanding thiols delivered alkynylthioethers. These results, together with preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that alkynylthiopyridinium salts can be considered synthetic equivalents of unstable thioketenes.

Abstract
2,6-Disubstituted iodoarenes bearing amide-functionalized side arms are reported as new structures in redox-active iodine(I/III) catalysis. In combination with bis-sulfonimides as nitrogen sources and 3-chloroperbenzoic acid (mCPBA) as benign terminal oxidant they catalyze the vicinal diamination of styrenes. The obtained reactivity and selectivity outperform other iodoarene catalyst candidates. This protocol provides a sustainable alternative to previous related protocols for diamination that are based on stoichiometric iodine(III) reagents.

Abstract
Iodine-promoted direct diamination of α,β-unsaturated ketone to form two C-N bonds has been developed starting from chalcone and secondary amine. This reaction was performed in THF at 50 °C in the presence of I2 and K2 CO3. The protocol is metal-free, operationally simple and carried out under mild conditions, providing an effective new way for directing diamination reactions.

Abstract
2,6‐Disubstituted anilines are readily prepared from the direct reaction between amides and diaryliodonium salts. As demonstrated for 24 different examples, the reaction is of unusually broad scope with respect to the sterically congested arene and the nitrogen source, occurs without the requirement for any additional promoter, and proceeds through a direct reductive elimination at the iodine(III) center. The efficiency of the coupling procedure is further demonstrated within the short synthesis of a chemerin binding inhibitor.

Abstract
The dehydrogenative cross-coupling of aniline derivatives to 2,2'-diaminobiaryls is reported. The oxidation is carried out electrochemically, which avoids the use of metals and reagents. A large variety of biphenyldiamines were thus prepared. The best results were obtained when glassy carbon was used as the anode material. The electrosynthetic reaction is easily performed in an undivided cell at slightly elevated temperature. In addition, common amine protecting groups based on carboxylic acids were employed that can be selectively removed under mild conditions after the cross-coupling, which provides quick and efficient access to important building blocks featuring free amine moieties.

Abstract
Our interest in the development of transition-metal catalysis for the realisation of vicinal diamination reactions of alkenes started about a decade ago. A number of successful transformations in this area have been developed using palladium catalysis. As a challenging aspect of major importance, the palladium-catalysed coupling of alkyl-nitrogen bonds constitutes the second step in diaminations of alkenes. We here discuss the details that led us to consider high-oxidation-state palladium catalysis as a key feature in such C-N bond-forming reactions. This work discusses both our own contributions and the ones from colleagues and combines the discussion of catalytic reactions and stoichiometric control experiments. It demonstrates that reductive alkyl-nitrogen bond formation from palladium(IV) proceeds with a low activation barrier and through a linear transition state of nucleophilic displacement.

Abstract
A photochemical catalytic amination of arenes is presented. The reaction proceeds under benign iodine catalysis in the presence of visible light as the initiator and provides access to a range of differently substituted arylamines. A total of 29 examples demonstrate the broad applicability of this mild oxidation method. The scope of the reaction could further be expanded to silyl-tethered derivatives, which undergo intramolecular amination upon formation of seven-membered heterocycles. Cleavage of the silicon tether provides access to the corresponding 3-substituted anilines.

Abstract
A new system for NH transfer is developed for the preparation of sulfoximines, which are emerging as valuable motifs for drug discovery. The protocol employs readily available sources of nitrogen without the requirement for either preactivation or for metal catalysts. Mixing ammonium salts with diacetoxyiodobenzene directly converts sulfoxides into sulfoximines. This report describes the first example of using of ammonia sources with diacetoxyiodobenzene to generate an electrophilic nitrogen center. Control and mechanistic studies suggest a short-lived electrophilic intermediate, which is likely to be PhINH or PhIN(+) .

Abstract
New palladium(II)-phthalimidato complexes have been synthesized, isolated, and structurally characterized. As demonstrated from over 30 examples, they constitute superior catalysts for oxidative amination reactions of alkenes with phthalimide as the nitrogen source. This work streamlines vicinal difunctionalization of alkenes and provides access to significantly improved and experimentally simplified synthetic protocols.

Abstract
An efficient thioamination of alkenes mediated by iodine(III) reagents is described. The use of different sulfur nucleophiles allows the flexible synthesis of 1,2-aminothiols from alkenes. By employing chiral iodine(III) reagents, a stereoselective version of the thioamination protocol has also been developed.

Abstract
Three new saccharin-based hypervalent iodine compounds were prepared by the reaction of saccharine with (diacetoxyiodo)arenes or acetoxybenziodoxole. Structures of these new imidoiodanes were established by X-ray crystallography. The saccharin-based μ-oxo-bridged imidoiodane readily reacts with silyl enol ethers under mild conditions to give the corresponding α-aminated carbonyl compounds in moderate yields.

Abstract
Vicinal diamines constitute one the most important functional motif in organic chemistry because of its wide occurrence in a variety of biological and pharmaceutical molecules. We report an efficient metal‐free, highly stereoselective intramolecular diamination using a novel chiral hypervalent iodine reagent together with its application as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of diamines.

Abstract
Hypervalent iodine(III) reagents have been known for over a century, and their reaction profile is still actively investigated. Recent years have seen impressive improvements in the area of alkene difunctionalization reactions, where new methodologies have become available. Especially chiral non-racemic hypervalent iodine(III) reagents and catalysts have emerged as versatile tools for the realization of important enantioselective transformations.
