Abstract
A new class of palladium complexes bearing bidentate 2-hydroxypyridine based ligands have been prepared and fully characterized. The applications of these new complexes towards ketone alkylation reactions with alcohols through a metal-ligand cooperative borrowing-hydrogen (BH) process were demonstrated.

The electro-oxidation of primary alcohols via a coral-shaped cobalt metal-organic framework modified graphite electrode in neutral media. Sci Rep 2022; 12:8560. Abstract
The electro-oxidation of alcohols into corresponding aldehydes achieved enormous attention. However, numerous challenges remain in exploring catalytic systems with high conversion efficiency and selectivity. Considering the worldwide attention toward metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as outstanding crystalline porous materials, many chemists have been encouraged to use them in organic transformations. In this study, a novel coral-shaped cobalt organic framework was grown onto the surface of a functionalized graphite electrode (Co-MOF/C) to fabricate an efficient modified electrode in the electro-oxidation alcohols. The modified Co-MOF/C electrode showed high stability, large surface area, rich pores, and good conductivity as a desirable water-stable working electrode for selective oxidation of alcohols into aldehydes in good to excellent yields under a diffusion-controlled process.

Abstract
A Cp*Ir(III) complex (1) of a newly designed ligand L1 featuring a proton-responsive pyridyl(benzamide) appended on N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) has been synthesized. The molecular structure of 1 reveals a dearomatized form of the ligand. The protonation of 1 with HBF4 in tetrahydrofuran gives the corresponding aromatized complex [Cp*Ir(L1 H)Cl]BF4 (2). Both compounds are characterized spectroscopically and by X-ray crystallography. The protonation of 1 with acid is examined by 1 H NMR and UV-vis spectra. The proton-responsive character of 1 is exploited for catalyzing α-alkylation of ketones and β-alkylation of secondary alcohols using primary alcohols as alkylating agents through hydrogen-borrowing methodology. Compound 1 is an effective catalyst for these reactions and exhibits a superior activity in comparison to a structurally similar iridium complex [Cp*Ir(L2 )Cl]PF6 (3) lacking a proton-responsive pendant amide moiety. The catalytic alkylation is characterized by a wide substrate scope, low catalyst and base loadings, and a short reaction time. The catalytic efficacy of 1 is also demonstrated for the syntheses of quinoline and lactone derivatives via acceptorless dehydrogenation, and selective alkylation of two steroids, pregnenolone and testosterone. Detailed mechanistic investigations and DFT calculations substantiate the role of the proton-responsive ligand in the hydrogen-borrowing process.

Abstract
CO-free hydrogen production from methanol and water by using transition metal complex catalysts has attracted increasing attention. However, liquid-phase batch reactions using homogeneous catalysts are impractical for large-scale operations, owing to the consumption of bases and the use of organic solvents or additives. This study concerns a novel method for continuous hydrogen production from a simple methanol-water solution under vapor-phase flow. The reaction is catalyzed by an anionic iridium bipyridonate (Ir-bpyd) complex immobilized on a periodic mesoporous organosilica. The liquid-phase batch reaction using homogeneous anionic Ir-bpyd complex is immediately deactivated, owing to CO2 generation, whereas no catalyst deactivation is observed in the vapor-phase flow reaction because CO2 is smoothly removed from the catalyst bed, enabling continuous hydrogen production without the addition of a base. Thus, the critical problems pertaining to homogeneous catalysts are overcome.

Abstract
We report a platinum nanocluster/graphitic carbon nitride (Pt/g-C3N4) composite solid catalyst with a photocatalytic anaerobic oxidation function for highly active and selective transformation of alcohols to ketones. The desirable products were successfully obtained in good to excellent yields from various functionalized alcohols at room temperature, including unactivated alcohols. Mechanistic studies indicated that the reaction could proceed through a Pt-mediated hole oxidation initiating an α-alcohol radical intermediate followed by a two-electron oxidation pathway. The merit of this strategy offers a general approach towards green and sustainable organic synthetic chemistry.

Metal-free photocatalysts for the oxidation of non-activated alcohols and the oxygenation of tertiary amines performed in air or oxygen. Nat Protoc 2020; 15:822-839. Abstract
This protocol describes the use of 9-fluorenone as a cheap and non-toxic photocatalyst for the oxidation of non-activated alcohols performed under the irradiation of a blue light-emitting diode. It also describes the use of the similarly cheap and non-toxic photocatalyst rose bengal for the selective α-oxygenation of tertiary amines to produce the corresponding amides in a selective way using the same light source. We have provided detailed instructions on how to assemble the light-emitting diode equipment and set up the photocatalytic reaction, where an oxygen atmosphere is created with an O2-filled balloon. Further details are provided using four example reactions that illustrate how this system works: alcohol oxidation to prepare terephthlalaldehyde and androstanedione, and amine oxidation to make 2-phenyl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one and (4-((4-chlorophenyl)(phenyl)methyl)piperazin-1-yl)m-tolyl)methanone. The times needed to perform these photocatalytic reactions are 18, 76, 22 and 54 h, respectively. We believe that this protocol represents a robust methodology for the late-stage modification of amines and the selective oxidation of steroids.

Abstract
Cp*RhIII /IrIII complexes are known to play important roles in both C-H activation and transfer hydrogenation (TH). However, these two areas evolved separately. They have been integrated in redox- and chemodivergent coupling reactions of N-pyridylanilines with enones. The iridium-catalyzed coupling with enones leads to the efficient synthesis of tetrahydroquinolines through TH from i PrOH. Counterintuitively, i PrOH does not serve as the sole hydride source, and the major reaction pathway involves disproportionation of a dihydroquinoline intermediate, followed by the convergent and iterative reduction of quinolinium species.

Abstract
Mild-mannered manipulation: A catalytic method for the conversion of carbohydrate biomass to γ-valerolactone in acidic aqueous media has been developed. The water-soluble iridium complexes were observed to be extremely catalytically active for providing γ-valerolactone in high yields with high TONs. The homogeneous catalysts can also be recycled and reused by applying a simple phase separation process.
