Abstract
Tridecacyclene tetraimide, TCTI, an electron-deficient non-benzenoid nanocarbon with a C56 N4 polycyclic framework was obtained in a concise synthesis. TCTI has a non-planar structure and forms π-stacked dimers in the solid state. In solution, it undergoes eight single-electron reductions, yielding a range of negatively charged states up to an octaanion. Except for the latter species, which has a remarkably large electronic gap, the anions feature extended near-infrared absorptions, with a particularly strong band at 1692 nm observed for the dianion. A computational analysis of the TCTI anions shows that their stability originates from the combined effects of electron-deficient imide groups and the local aromaticity of reduced acenaphthylene units. The properties of TCTI make it potentially useful in electrochromic and charge storage applications.

Abstract
Over the past decade, organic solar cells (OSCs) have received considerable attention from the scientific community and are considered one of the most important sources of low-cost electricity production. Recently, OSC-based on star-shaped small-molecule (SM) non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) have developed rapidly, and the highest power conversion efficiency (PCE) has exceeded 10 %. The star-shaped SM NFAs not only have three-dimensional charge-transport characteristics similar to fullerenes but also have a strong light absorption capacities and easily tunable energy levels. They are potential candidates as outstanding acceptor materials. In this Review, research progress in of star-shaped SM NFAs OSCs is reviewed specifically. Moreover, the influence of molecular structure, central unit, and peripheral linking group on OSC performance has been evaluated systematically. This Review could stimulate inspiration for designing high-performance OSC acceptor materials in the future.

Abstract
Stable two-electron acceptors comprising a dicyanomethylene-bridged acridophosphine scaffold were synthesized and their reversible reduction potentials were efficiently tuned through derivatization of the phosphorus center. X-ray crystallographic analysis combined with NMR, UV/Vis, IR spectroscopic, and electrochemical studies, supported by theoretical calculations, revealed the crucial role of the phosphorus atom for the unique redox, structural, and photophysical properties of these compounds. The results identify the potential of these electron deficient scaffolds for the development of functional n-type materials and redox active chromophores upon further functionalization.

Abstract
Herein, we report the one‐pot synthesis of an electron‐poor nanographene containing dicarboximide groups at the corners. We efficiently combined palladium‐catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling and dehydrohalogenation to synthesize an extended two‐dimensional π‐scaffold of defined size in a single chemical operation starting from N‐(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)‐4,5‐dibromo‐1,8‐naphthalimide and a tetrasubstituted pyrene boronic acid ester as readily accessible starting materials. The reaction of these precursors under the conditions commonly used for Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling afforded a C64 nanographene through the formation of ten C−C bonds in a one‐pot process. Single‐crystal X‐ray analysis unequivocally confirmed the structure of this unique extended aromatic molecule with a planar geometry. The optical and electrochemical properties of this largest ever synthesized planar electron‐poor nanographene skeleton were also analyzed.

Abstract
A new ladder-conjugated star-shaped oligomer electron-transporting material TetraPDI-PF, with four perylene diimide (PDI) branches and a fluorene core, was efficiently synthesized. The oligomer is highly soluble in dichlorobenzene with a solubility of 155 mg mL(-1), which is higher than those of PDI (35 mg mL(-1)) and PDI-Phen (70 mg mL(-1)). Demonstrated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), the oligomer exhibits excellent thermal stability with the decomposition temperature (Td) of 291.2 °C, which is 65 °C higher than that of PDI. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) were employed to investigate the electrochemical properties. Although the CV curves of TetraPDI-PF are successively scanned for 15 cycles, they still remain invariable reduction potentials. The oligomer also shows outstanding photostability, even better than PDI, which maintains 99 % fluorescence intensity after irradiation for 10 min using maximum laser intensity. In the steady-state space-charge-limited current (SCLC) devices, TetraPDI-PF exhibits higher intrinsic electron mobility of 2.22×10(-5) cm(2) V(-1) s(-1), three orders of magnitude over that of PDI (3.52×10(-8) cm(2) V(-1) s(-1)). The bulk heterojunction (BHJ) organic solar cells (OSCs) using TetraPDI-PF as non-fullerene acceptors and P3HT as donors give optimum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 0.64 %, which is 64 times that of the PDI:P3HT BHJ cells.
