Abstract
The conformational preferences of oligopeptides of an ϵ‐amino acid (2‐((1R,3S)‐3‐(aminomethyl)cyclopentyl)acetic acid, Amc5a) with a cyclopentane substituent in the Cβ−Cγ−Cδ sequence of the backbone were investigated using DFT methods in chloroform and water. The most preferred conformation of Amc5a oligomers (dimer to hexamer) was the H16 helical structure both in chloroform and water. Four residues were found to be sufficient to induce a substantial H16 helix population in solution. The Amc5a hexamer adopted a stable left‐handed (M)‐2.316 helical conformation with a rise of 4.8 Å per turn. The hexamer of Ampa (an analogue of Amc5a with replacing cyclopentane by pyrrolidine) adopted the right‐handed mixed (P)‐2.918/16 helical conformation in chloroform and the (M)‐2.416 helical conformation in water. Therefore, hexamers of ϵ‐amino acid residues exhibited different preferences of helical structures depending on the substituents in peptide backbone and the solvent polarity as well as the chain length.

Abstract
Due to their equivalent lengths, δ-amino acids can serve as surrogates of α-dipeptides. However, δ-amino acids with proteinogenic side chains have not been well studied because of synthetic difficulties and because of their insolubility in organic solvents. Recently we reported the spontaneous supramolecular gelation of δ-peptides composed of β(O)-δ5 -amino acids. Here, we report the incorporation of β(O)-δ5 -amino acids as guests into the host α-helix, α,γ-hybrid peptide 12-helix and their single-crystal conformations. In addition, we studied the solution conformations of hybrid peptides composed of 1:1 alternating α and β(O)-δ5 -amino acids. In contrast to the control α-helix structures, the crystal structure of peptides with β(O)-δ5 -amino acids exhibit α-helical conformations consisting of both 13- and 10-membered H-bonds. The α,δ-hybrid peptide adopted mixed 13/11-helix conformation in solution with alternating H-bond directionality. Crystal-structure analysis revealed that the α,γ4 -hybrid peptide accommodated the guest β(O)-δ5 -amino acid without significant deviation to the overall helix folding. The results reported here emphasize that β(O)-δ5 -amino acids with proteinogenic side chains can be accommodated into regular α-helix or 12-helix as guests without much deviation of the overall helix folding of the peptides.

Abstract
As three-dimensional folding is prerequisite to biopolymer activity, complex functions may also be achieved through foldamer science. Because of the diversity of sizes, shapes and folding available with synthetic monomers, foldamer frameworks enable a numerous opportunities for designing new generations of catalysts. We herein demonstrate that heterocyclic γ-peptide scaffolds represent a versatile platform for enamine catalysis. One central feature was to determine how the catalytic activity and the transfer of chiral information might be under the control of the conformational behaviours of the oligomer.

Abstract
Sugars play key roles in many molecular and cellular communication processes involving a family of proteins named lectins. The low affinity associated with sugar recognition is generally counterbalanced by the multivalent nature of the interaction. While many polyglycosylated architectures have been described, only a few studies focused on the impact of topology variations of the multivalent structures on the interaction with lectin proteins. One major interest of our group concerns the design of new highly predictable and stable molecular pseudo-peptide architectures for therapeutic applications. In such a context, we described a class of constrained heterocyclic γ-amino acids built around a thiazole ring, named ATCs. ATC oligomers are helical molecules resulting from the formation of a highly stable C9 hydrogen-bonding pattern. Following our program, we herein address the potential of ATC oligomers as tunable scaffolds for the development of original multivalent glycoclusters.

Abstract
Double helices are not common in polypeptides and proteins except in the peptide antibiotic gramicidin A and analogous l,d-peptides. In contrast to natural polypeptides, remarkable β-double-helical structures from achiral γ-peptides built from α,β-unsaturated γ-amino acids have been observed. The crystal structures suggest that they adopted parallel β-double helical structures and these structures are stabilized by the interstrand backbone amide H-bonds. Furthermore, both NMR spectroscopy and fluorescence studies support the existence of double-helical conformations in solution. Although a variety of folded architectures featuring distinct H-bonds have been discovered from the β- and γ-peptide foldamers, this is the first report to show that achiral γ-peptides can spontaneously intertwine into β-double helical structures.

Abstract
Oligomers of azole peptides have been isolated from a multitude of marine organisms. Up to now, these azole-containing dipeptide-analogue oligomers have only been found as cyclic n-mers (mostly tri- and tetramers) in nature. Herein, we show that imidazole-containing pseudopeptides form helixlike secondary structures in different solvents. The screw sense of the helix can be determined by attaching a single chiral imidazole unit to the N terminus of the oligomer. Investigation by means of circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy showed that the folding process of the helix depends on the water content of the solvent in a parabolic way. In a pure organic medium, the helix is stabilized by hydrogen bonds between the hydrogen atoms of the amide groups and the nitrogen atoms of the azole ring. In aqueous solution, the formation of the helix is driven by dispersion interactions. The formation of the helix is more pronounced in aqueous solution than in organic solvents.
