Abstract
Enantioselective total synthesis of estradiol methyl ether has been accomplished in a pot-economical manner using five reaction vessels and four purifications. The key reaction is a diphenylprolinol silyl ether mediated domino Michael/aldol reaction to afford bicyclo[4.3.0]nonane derivatives, containing the A, C, and D rings of steroids, as a single isomer with excellent enantioselectivity. Six reactions such as oxidation, hydrogenation, formation of acid chloride, Friedel-Crafts reaction, deprotection, and reduction can be carried out in the last one-pot sequence.

Abstract
The asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction of α-substituted acrolein proceeds in the presence of the trifluoroacetic acid salt of trifluoromethyl-substituted diarylprolinol silyl ether to afford the exo-isomer with both excellent diastereoselectivity and high enantioselectivity. In the Diels-Alder reaction of a β,β-disubstituted α,β-unsaturated aldehyde, good exo-selectivity and excellent enantioselectivity was obtained when the perchloric acid salt of the bulky triisopropyl silyl ether of trifluoromethyl substituted diarylprolinol was employed as an organocatalyst in the presence of water. In both cases, all-carbon quaternary stereocenters are constructed enantioselectively.

Abstract
A direct aminocatalytic synthesis has been developed for the chemo-, regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselective construction of densely substituted polycyclic carbaldehydes containing fused cyclohexadiene rings. The chemistry utilizes, for the first time, remotely enolizable π-extended allylidenemalononitriles as electron-rich 1,3-diene precursors in a direct eliminative [4+2] cycloaddition with both aromatic and aliphatic α,β-unsaturated aldehydes. The generality of the process is demonstrated by approaching 6,6-, 5,6-, 7,6-, 6,6,6-, and 6,5,6-fused ring systems, as well as biorelevant steroid-like 6,6,6,6,5- and 6,6,6,5,6-rings. A stepwise reaction mechanism for the key [4+2] addition is proposed as a domino bis-vinylogous Michael/Michael/retro-Michael reaction cascade. The utility of the malononitrile moiety as traceless activating group of the dicyano nucleophilic substrates is demonstrated.

Abstract
An asymmetric Torgov cyclization, catalyzed by a novel, highly Brønsted acidic dinitro-substituted disulfonimide, is described. The reaction delivers the Torgov diene and various analogues with excellent yields and enantioselectivity. This method was applied in a very short synthesis of (+)-estrone.
