Abstract
A Au55 nanocluster with the composition of [Au55 (p-MBT)24 (Ph3 P)6 ](SbF6 )3 (p-MBT=4-methylbenzenethiolate) is synthesized via direct reduction of gold-phosphine and gold-thiolate precursors. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that this Au55 nanocluster features a face-centered cubic (fcc) Au55 kernel, different from the well-known two-shell cuboctahedral arrangement in Au55 (Ph3 P)12 Cl6 . The Au55 cluster shows a wide optical absorption band with optical energy gap (Eg =1.28 eV). It is found that the exclusion of chloride is crucial for the formation of the title cluster, otherwise rod-like [Au25 (SR)5 (PPh3 )10 Cl2 ]2+ is obtained. The strategy to run synthetic reaction in the absence of halide leads to new members of phosphine/thiolate co-protected metal nanoclusters. The Au55 nanocluster exhibits high catalytic activity and selectivity for electrochemical reduction of CO2 to CO; the Faradaic efficiency (FE) reaches 94.1 % at -0.6 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE).

Abstract
Bimetallic core-shell nanostructures hold great promise in elucidating the bimetallic synergism. However, it remains a challenge to construct atomically precise core-shell with high-valence active metals on the gold surface. In this work, we report the total structure of a [Au42 Cd40 (SR)52 ]2- core-shell nanocluster and multiple implications. Single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) reveals that the structure possesses a two-shelled Au6 @Au36 core and a closed cadmium shell of Cd40 , and the core-shell structure is then protected by 52 thiolate (-SR) ligands. The composition of the nanocluster is further confirmed by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). A catalytic test for styrene oxidation and a comparison with relevant nanoclusters reveal the surface effect on the catalytic activity and selectivity.

Abstract
We present a method for atomically precise nanocluster synthesis. As an illustration, we introduced the reducing-ligand induction combined method and synthesized a novel nanocluster, which was determined to be Au28 (SCH2 Ph-t Bu)22 with the same number of gold atoms as existing Au28 (SR)20 nanoclusters but different ligands (hetero-composition-homo-size). Compared with the latter, the former has distinct properties and structures. In particular, a novel kernel evolution pattern is reported, i.e., the quasi-linear growth of Au4 -tetrahedron by sharing one vertex and structural features, including a tritetrahedron kernel with two bridging thiolates and two Au6 (SCH2 Ph-t Bu)6 hexamer chair-like rings on the kernel surface were also first reported, which endow Au28 (SCH2 Ph-t Bu)22 with the best photoluminescence quantum yield among hydrophobic thiolated gold nanoclusters so far, probably due to the enhanced charge transfer from the bi-ring to the kernel via Au-Au bonds.

Abstract
The structures and properties of van der Waals (vdW) heterojunctions between semiconducting two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides (2D TMDs) and conductive metals, such as gold, significantly influence the performances of 2D-TMD based electronic devices. Chemical vapor deposition is one of the most promising approaches for large-scale synthesis and fabrication of 2D TMD electronics with naturally formed TMD/metal vdW interfaces. However, the structure and chemistry of the vdW interfaces are less known. Here we report the interfacial reconstruction between TMD monolayers and gold substrates. The participation of sulfur leads to the reconstruction of Au {001} surface with the formation of a metastable Au4S4 interfacial phase which is stabilized by the top MoS2 and WS2 monolayers. Moreover, the enhanced vdW interaction between the reconstructed Au4S4 interfacial phase and TMD monolayers results in the transition from n-type TMD-Au Schottky contact to p-type one with reduced energy barrier height.

Abstract
The reaction system GeCl2 ⋅dioxane/LiSTsi (Tsi=C(SiMe3 )3 ) opens a fruitful area in germanium chemistry, depending on the stoichiometry and solvent used during the reaction. For example, the reaction of GeCl2 ⋅dioxane in toluene with two equivalents of the thiolate gives the expected germylene Ge(STsi)2 in excellent yield. This germylene readily reacts with hydrogen and acetylene, however, in a non-selective way. By using an excess amount of the thiolate and toluene as the solvent, the germanide [Ge(STsi)3 ][Li(thf)] is obtained. Performing the same reaction in thf leads to a C-H activation of thf to give (H7 C4 O)Ge[STsi](μ2 -S)2 Ge[STsi]2 , in which the thf molecule is still intact. Using a sub-stoichiometric amount of the thiolate leads to the heteroleptic compound [ClGe(STsi)]2 and to the insertion product (thf)Ge[S-GeCl2 -Tsi]2 , in which additional GeCl2 molecules insert into the C-S bonds of Ge(STsi)2 . The synthesis and the experimentally determined structures of all compounds are presented together with first reactivity studies of Ge(STsi)2 .

Abstract
The reaction of the metalloid tin cluster [Sn10(Hyp)4]2- with (Ph3P)Au-SHyp (Hyp = Si(SiMe3)3) gave an intermetalloid cluster [Au3Sn18(Hyp)8]-1, which is the longest intermetalloid chain compound of tin to date. 1 shows a structural resemblance to binary AuSn phases, which is expected for intermetalloid clusters.
