Abstract
During the past decade, many research groups have described catalytic methods for 1,2-carboboration, allowing access to structurally complex organoboronates from alkenes. Various transition metals, especially copper, palladium, and nickel, have been widely used in these reactions. This review summarizes advances in this field, with a special focus on the catalytic cycles involved in different metal-catalyzed carboboration reactions, as well as the regio- and stereochemical consequences of the underlying mechanisms. 1,2-Carboboration of other unsaturated systems, such as alkynes and allenes, are outside of the scope of this review.

Abstract
We report the development of palladium(0)-catalyzed syn-selective 1,2-carboboration and -silylation reactions of alkenes containing cleavable directing groups. With B2 pin2 or PhMe2 Si-Bpin as nucleophiles and aryl/alkenyl triflates as electrophiles, a broad range of mono-, di-, tri- and tetrasubstituted alkenes are compatible in these transformations. We further describe a directed dearomative 1,2-carboboration of electron-rich heteroarenes by employing this approach. Through use of a removable chiral directing group, we demonstrate the viability of achieving stereoinduction in Heck-type alkene 1,2-difunctionalization. This work introduces new avenues to access highly functionalized boronates and silanes with precise regio- and stereocontrol.

Abstract
The incorporation of CO2 into organometallic and organic molecules represents a sustainable way to prepare carboxylates. The mechanism of reductive carboxylation of alkyl halides has been proposed to proceed through the reduction of NiII to NiI by either Zn or Mn, followed by CO2 insertion into NiI -alkyl species. No experimental evidence has been previously established to support the two proposed steps. Demonstrated herein is that the direct reduction of (tBu-Xantphos)NiII Br2 by Zn affords NiI species. (tBu-Xantphos)NiI -Me and (tBu-Xantphos)NiI -Et complexes undergo fast insertion of CO2 at 22 °C. The substantially faster rate, relative to that of NiII complexes, serves as the long-sought-after experimental support for the proposed mechanisms of Ni-catalyzed carboxylation reactions.

Abstract
The agostic interaction is a ubiquitous phenomenon in catalytic processes and transition-metal complexes, and hyperconjugation has been well recognized as its origin. Yet, recent studies showed that either short-range London dispersion or structural constraints could be the driving force, although proper evaluation of the role of hyperconjugation therein is needed. Herein, a simple variant of valence bond theory was employed to study a few exemplary Ti complexes with α- or β-agostic interactions and interpret the agostic effect in terms of the steric effect, hyperconjugation, and dispersion. For the complexes [MeTiCl3 (dmpe)] and [MeTiCl3 (dhpe)] with α-agostic interactions, hyperconjugation plays the dominant role with comparable magnitudes in both systems, but dispersion is solely responsible for the stronger agostic interaction in the former compared with the latter. For the complexes [EtTiCl3 (dmpe)] and [EtTiCl3 (dhpe)] with β-agostic interactions, however, hyperconjugation and dispersion play comparable roles, and the weaker steric repulsion leads to a stronger agostic effect in the former than in the latter. Thus, the present study clarifies the variable and sensitive roles of steric, hyperconjugative, and dispersion interactions in the agostic interaction.
