Abstract
We herein report the synthesis, structures, coordination ability, and mechanism of formation of silicon analogs of crown ethers. An oligomerization of 2 D2 (I) (2 Dn ,=(Me4 Si2 O)n ) was achieved by the reaction with GaI3 and MIx (M=Li, Na, Mg, Ca, Sr). In these reactions the metal cations serve as template and the anions (I- /[GaI4 ]- ) are required as nucleophiles. In case of MIx =LiI, [Li(2 D3 )GaI4 ] (1) is formed. In case of MIx =NaI, MgI2 , CaI2 , and SrI2 the compounds [M(2 D4 )(GaI4 )x ] (M=Mg2+ (3), Ca2+ (4), Sr2+ (5) are obtained. Furthermore the proton complex [H(2 D3 )][Ga2 I7 ] (6) was isolated and structurally characterized. All complexes were characterized by means of multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, DOSY experiments and, except for compound 3, also by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Quantum chemical calculations were carried out to compare the affinity of M+ to 2 Dn and other ligands and to shed light on the formation of larger rings from smaller ones.

Abstract
Nine Ge-Fe carbonyl cluster compounds are prepared via ionic liquids-based synthesis. This includes the novel compounds [EMIm][Fe(CO)3 I(GeI3 )], [EHIm][Fe(CO)3 I(GeI3 )], [BMIm][GeI2 {Fe(CO)4 }2 (μ-I)][AlCl4 ]2 , [GeI2 {Fe(CO)4 }2 (μ-I)][Fe(AlBr4 )3 ], [BMIm]2 [(FeI2 )0.75 {Fe(CO)2 I(GeI3 )2 }2 ], and [EHIm][Fe(CO)4 (GeI2 )2 Fe(CO)3 GeI3 ] as well as the previously reported compounds (Fe(CO)4 (GeI3 )2 , FeI4 {GeI3 Fe(CO)3 }2 , and Ge12 {Fe(CO)3 }8 (μ-I)4 (EMIm: 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium, EHIm: 1-ethylimidazolium, BMIm: 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium). With this series of compounds, a comparison of synthesis conditions and structural features is possible and, for instance, allows correlating the composition and structure of the respective Ge-Fe carbonyl cluster compounds with the type and acidity of the ionic liquid. With [EMIm][{GeI3 }2 Fe(CO)3 I], moreover, we can exemplarily show the thermal decomposition as a single-source precursor in the ionic liquid, resulting in bimetallic Ge-Fe nanoparticles with small size and narrow size distribution (7.0±1.4 nm).

Abstract
Within the second funding period of the SPP 1708 "Material Synthesis near Room Temperature",which started in 2017, we were able to synthesize novel anionic species utilizing Ionic Liquids (ILs) both, as reaction media and reactant. ILs, bearing the decomposable and non-innocent methyl carbonate anion [CO3 Me]- , served as starting material and enabled facile access to pseudohalide salts by reaction with Me3 Si-X (X=CN, N3 , OCN, SCN). Starting with the synthesized Room temperature Ionic Liquid (RT-IL) [nBu3 MeN][B(OMe)3 (CN)], we were able to crystallize the double salt [nBu3 MeN]2 [B(OMe)3 (CN)](CN). Furthermore, we studied the reaction of [WCC]SCN and [WCC]CN (WCC=weakly coordinating cation) with their corresponding protic acids HX (X=SCN, CN), which resulted in formation of [H(NCS)2 ]- and the temperature labile solvate anions [CN(HCN)n ]- (n=2, 3). In addition, the highly labile anionic HCN solvates were obtained from [PPN]X ([PPN]=μ-nitridobis(triphenylphosphonium), X=N3 , OCN, SCN and OCP) and HCN. Crystals of [PPN][X(HCN)3 ] (X=N3 , OCN) and [PPN][SCN(HCN)2 ] were obtained when the crystallization was carried out at low temperatures. Interestingly, reaction of [PPN]OCP with HCN was noticed, which led to the formation of [P(CN)2 ]- , crystallizing as HCN disolvate [PPN][P(CN⋅HCN)2 ]. Furthermore, we were able to isolate the novel cyanido(halido) silicate dianions of the type [SiCl0.78 (CN)5.22 ]2- and [SiF(CN)5 ]2- and the hexa-substituted [Si(CN)6 ]2- by temperature controlled halide/cyanide exchange reactions. By facile neutralization reactions with the non-innocent cation of [Et3 HN]2 [Si(CN)6 ] with MOH (M=Li, K), Li2 [Si(CN)6 ] ⋅ 2 H2 O and K2 [Si(CN)6 ] were obtained, which form three dimensional coordination polymers. From salt metathesis processes of M2 [Si(CN)6 ] with different imidazolium bromides, we were able to isolate new imidazolium salts and the ionic liquid [BMIm]2 [Si(CN)6 ]. When reacting [Mes(nBu)Im]2 [Si(CN)6 ] with an excess of the strong Lewis acid B(C6 F5 )3 , the voluminous adduct anion {Si[CN⋅B(C6 F5 )3 ]6 }2- was obtained.

Abstract
Discrete supertetrahedral Tn chalcogenido clusters, which can be regarded as the smallest semiconductor quantum dots with precise chemical composition, have attracted considerable attention due to their outstanding photoluminescent, photoelectric, and photo/electrocatalytic properties. Such discrete molecular clusters are suitable for solution processing towards functional materials and can be used as precursors for constructing open-framework chalcogenides. Traditionally they were synthesized hydro(solvo)thermally with molecular solvents (e. g. water or organic amines), while until recently imidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) were found suitable for their preparation acting as reactive solvent and stabilizer for molecular clusters. We discuss herein recent advances in the syntheses, crystal structures, and selected properties of discrete supertetrahedral Tn chalcogenido clusters obtained in ILs. In particular, the enhanced photocatalytic properties of monodispersed Tn clusters in solvents are highlighted.

Abstract
Although supertetrahedral Tn sulfide clusters (n=2-6) have been extensively explored, the synthesis of Tn selenide clusters with n>4 has not been achieved thus far. Reported here are ionic-liquid (IL)-assisted precursor route syntheses, characterizations, and the photocatalytic properties of six new M-In-Q (M=Cu or Cd; Q=Se or Se/S) chalcogenide compounds, namely [Bmmim]12 Cu5 In30 Q52 Cl3 (Im) (Q=Se (T5-1), Se48.5 S3.5 (T5-2); Bmmim=1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium, Im=imidazole), [Bmmim]11 Cd6 In28 Q52 Cl3 (MIm) (Q=Se (T5-3), Se28.5 S23.5 (T5-4), Se16 S36 (T5-5); MIm=1-methylimidazole), and [Bmmim]9 Cd6 In28 Se8 S44 Cl(MIm)3 (T5-6). The cluster compounds T5-1 and T5-3 represent the largest molecular supertetrahedral Tn selenide clusters to date. Under visible-light illumination, the Cu-In-Q compounds showed photocatalytic activity towards the decomposition of crystal violet, whereas the Cd-In-Q compounds exhibited good photocatalytic H2 evolution activity. Interestingly, the experimental results show that the photocatalytic performances of the selenide/sulfide solid solutions were significantly better than those of their selenide analogues, for example, the degradation time of the organic dye with T5-2 was much shorter than that with T5-1, whereas the photocatalytic H2 evolution efficiencies with T5-3-T5-6 improved significantly with increasing sulfur content. This work highlights the significance of IL-assisted precursor route synthesis and the tuning of photocatalytic properties through the formation of solid solutions.
