Abstract
NHC-based pincers (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) have been broadly employed as supporting platforms, and their palladium complexes have found many synthetic applications. However, previous studies mainly focused on the NHC pincers of palladium featuring an oxidation number of +II. In contrast, oxidation of these well-defined Pd(II) species and the study of their fundamental high-valent Pd chemistry remain largely undeveloped. In addition, from a perspective of PdII/PdIV catalysis, the reactivity and degradation of NHC pincers in catalytically relevant reactions have not been well understood. In this work, a series of Pd(II) complexes supported by a well-known NHC^Aryl^NHC pincer platform have been prepared. Their reactivity towards various oxidizing reagents, including halogen surrogates, electrophilic fluorine reagents, and alkyl/aryl halides, has been examined. In some cases, ambient-characterizable high-valent Pd NHCs, which have been scarcely reported, were obtained. The carbenes incorporated into the pincer framework proved to be effective spectator donors. In contrast, the central aryl moiety exhibits versatile reactivity and collapse pathways, allowing it to function either as a spectator or a non-innocent actor.

Abstract
A ligand-free Pd(0)-catalyzed cyclization of (Z)-5-iodo-4-pentenenitrile has been realized with the help of HCO2H reductant, which is followed by imine hydrolysis to afford cyclopentenone derivatives in moderate to good yields. Control experiments clearly points out that the proton originally came from HCO2H plays a crucial role on protonation of the resultant imido-Pd2+ intermediate. This protocol features mild condition, operational simplicity, as well as wide functional group tolerance.

Abstract
The chelate complex [Pd(κ(2)-C,O-C6H4CH2O-2)(bpy)] () reacts with acetonitrile, cyanamides, or carbodiimides, in the presence of AgOTf (1 : 5 : 1 molar ratio) and residual water, to form complexes [Pd{κ(2)-C,N-C6H4{CH2OC([double bond, length as m-dash]NX)Y}-2}(bpy)](OTf), where X = H, Y = Me (), NMe2 (), NEt2 (), X = R, Y = NHR (R = (i)Pr (), Tol ()), as a result of the insertion of the unsaturated reagent into the O-Pd bond of and the protonation of one of the N atoms. In the absence of AgOTf the reaction of with TolN[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]NTol (Tol = p-Tolyl) results in the formation of the neutral complex [Pd{κ(2)-C,N-C6H4{CH2OC([double bond, length as m-dash]NTol)NTol}-2}(bpy)] (). Complexes and can be interconverted by deprotonation ( + KO(t)Bu) or protonation ( + KOTf + HOTf) reactions. When the reaction of with TolN[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]NTol in the presence of AgOTf is carried out in a 1 : 1 : 1 stoichiometric ratio, or for a short period of time, a mixture of and a mixed heterometallic Ag2Pd complex is obtained ( = [Ag(N-)2](OTf)). Complex is the major product when the AgOTf is added before the carbodiimide, and the reaction is stopped immediately. can also be obtained by reaction of with 0.5 equiv. of AgOTf. When complex [PdI(C6H4CH2OH-2)(bpy)] () reacts with (i)PrN[double bond, length as m-dash]C[double bond, length as m-dash]N(i)Pr in the presence of TlOTf, instead of AgOTf, a ca. 1 : 1 mixture of and [Pd{κ(2)-O,N-OCH2{C6H4{C([double bond, length as m-dash]NH(i)Pr)N(i)Pr}-2}}(bpy)](OTf) () forms. Complex is the result of the insertion of the carbodiimide into the C-Pd bond. Complexes have been extensively characterized by NMR spectroscopy, and the crystal structures of , , and ·2.5CHCl3·0.5Et2O have been determined by X-ray diffraction studies.

Abstract
The reaction of Co(2)(mesityl)(4) with acetonitrile leads to the formation of a planar, low spin, bis-β-diketiminate cobalt(II) complex, (1-mesitylbutane-1,3-diimine)(2)Co (1). EPR spectroscopy, magnetic studies, and DFT calculations reveal the Co(II) ion to reside in a tetragonal ligand field with a (2)B(2)(d(yz))(1) ground state electronic configuration. Oxidation of 1 with ferrocenium hexafluorophosphate furnishes (1-mesitylbutane-1,3-diimine)(2)Co(THF)(2)PF(6) (2). The absence of significant changes in the metal-ligand bond metrics of the X-ray crystal structures of 1 and 2 supports ligand participation in the oxidation event. Moreover, no significant changes in C-C or C-N bond lengths are observed by X-ray crystallography upon oxidation of a β-diketiminate ligand, in contrast to typical redox noninnocent ligand platforms.

Abstract
Organometallic complexes to be used as single component precursors in the catalytic dimerization/polymerization of olefins usually must contain a labile ligand that can easily be displaced by the olefin. This is the first step in the activation of the precursor. One commonly used labile ligand is a nitrile. Here we report an example of incompatibility between the nickel or palladium aryl bond and acetonitrile. Neutral [MBr(Mes)NN] complexes in which Mes=2,4,6-Me3C6H2, NN=diazabutadiene (DAD), pyridinylimine (PIM), 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) gave the expected [M(Mes)(3,5-lut)(NN)][BF4] compounds and the unexpected [Ni(Mes){NH=C(Me)(2,4,6-Me3C6H2)}(NN)][BF4] complexes in the presence of TlBF4 and 3,5-lutidine or acetonitrile. The sequence of reactions that leads to the imine ligand must include an initial insertion of the nitrile on the sigma(Ni-Mes) bond. These ionic complexes remain stable under 20 bar of ethylene.

Abstract
[Structure: see text] A cationic palladium complex catalyzed addition of arylboronic acids to nitriles to yield aryl ketones with moderate to good yields was developed. A one-step synthesis of benzofurans from phenoxyacetonitriles under the catalysis of [(bpy)Pd+(micro-OH)]2(-OTf)2 or [(bpy)Pd2+(H2O)2](-OTf)2 was developed which showed that the cationic palladium catalyst is highly active for these addition reactions.

Abstract
The unprecedented palladium-catalyzed C-H addition of arenes to nitriles provides moderate to excellent yields of aryl ketones or the corresponding hindered imines. The addition of a small amount of DMSO increases the yields dramatically. Both intermolecular and intramolecular reactions are successful, although the intramolecular reactions tend to be more sluggish. This novel chemistry is believed to involve palladium-catalyzed C-H activation of the arene by electrophilic aromatic substitution, followed by the unusual carbopalladation of a nitrile. Similar reactions have been successfully developed employing arylboronic acids and nitriles. A concise route to xanthones starting from cheap starting materials has been developed employing this synthetic protocol.
