Abstract
An asymmetric thia-Michael addition of arylthiols to α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids using a thiourea catalyst that bears arylboronic acid and tertiary amine moieties is reported.
An asymmetric thia-Michael addition of arylthiols to α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acids using a thiourea catalyst that bears arylboronic acid and tertiary amine moieties is reported. Both enantiomers of the Michael adducts can be obtained in high enantioselectivity and good yield merely by changing the solvent. The origin of the chirality switch in the products was examined in each solvent via spectroscopic analyses.

Abstract
A straightforward method to prepare 1,5-benzothiazepines was reported. Catalyzed by a Rh/Zhaophos complex, unsaturated cyclic NH lactams with a medium-size ring were hydrogenated smoothly, giving remarkably high enantioselectivities. The sulfur atom in the substrates did not bring an inhibition which was observed with commercially available bisphosphine ligands. This method was successfully applied in the scale-up synthesis of (R)-(-)-thiazesim.

Abstract
Sulfur-containing compounds are a class of important motifs extensively applied in pharmaceutical and pesticidal industries as well as in electrochemistry, toxicant separation, and organic syntheses. Herein, we describe a novel and efficient metal-free catalytic strategy for the rapid synthesis of β-thioketones from sustainable enone derivatives and thiols via thia-Michael addition enabled by heterogeneous prolinamide. At room temperature, up to 98% yield of β-thioketones could be obtained over the solid UiO-66-NH-proline catalyst facilely prepared by the covalent immobilization of proline onto UiO-66-NH2 (a well-known metal-organic framework) via a stable amido linkage. A cooperative effect of proline (amino group) and UiO-66-NH2 (in situ-derived amide species) was observed to play a promotional role in the proceeding of thia-Michael addition, resulting in a high TOF value of 1124.3 h-1. A three-component "iminium" intermediate was illustrated to the key species approaching the product β-thioketone. Moreover, the UiO-66-NH-proline could be easily recovered from the reaction mixture and recycled for at least five times with a slight loss of activity.

Abstract
The first enantioselective catalytic approach to cis- and trans-2,3-diaryl substituted 1,5-benzothiazepines has been conveniently developed in a one-pot fashion, starting from α,β-unsaturated acyl pyrazoles and 2-aminothiophenol. The organocatalytic two-step sulfa-Michael/lactamization sequence is promoted by a readily available bifunctional thiourea and p-toluenesulfonic acid, respectively. The protocol enables access to both N-unprotected cis- and trans-diastereoisomers in moderate to satisfactory overall yields (up to 84%) and good to excellent ee values (up to 99%). Mechanistic investigations helped to shed light on the regio- and stereoselective outcome of the process.

Abstract
The first enantioselective sulfa-Michael addition of alkyl thiols to alkenyl benzimidazoles, enabled by a bifunctional iminophosphorane (BIMP) organocatalyst, is described. The iminophosphorane moiety of the catalyst provides the required basicity to deprotonate the thiol nucleophile while the chiral scaffold and H-bond donor control facial selectivity. The reaction is broad in scope with respect to the thiol and benzimidazole reaction partners with the reaction proceeding in up to 98% yield and 96 : 4 er.

Abstract
The metal-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition (ACA) reaction has emerged as a general and powerful approach for the construction of optically active compounds and is among the most significant and useful reactions in synthetic organic chemistry. In recent years, great progress has been made in this area with the use of various chiral metal complexes based on different chiral ligands. This review provides comprehensive and critical information on the enantioselective 1,4-conjugate addition of nonorganometallic (soft) nucleophiles and their importance in synthetic applications. The literature is covered from the last 10 years, and a number of examples from before 2007 are included as background information. The review is divided into multiple parts according to the type of nucleophile involved in the reaction (such as C-, B-, O-, N-, S-, P-, and Si-centered nucleophiles) and metal catalyst systems used.

Abstract
An unprecedented formal [3 + 4] annulation of α,β-unsaturated acyl azoliums with 2-aminobenzenethiols has been utilized to synthesize enantioenriched N-H-free 1,5-benzothiazepines, which are recognized as privileged structures in numerous biologically active scaffolds. This protocol offers a rapid and direct pathway to access the target compounds with high enantioselectivities and has been applied in the concise synthesis of chiral drug (R)-thiazesim.

Abstract
An enantioselective sulfa-Michael-cyclization reaction was developed for the synthesis of 1,5-benzothiazepines with versatile pharmacological activities. The reaction between 2-aminothiophenol and α,β-unsaturated pyrazoleamides gave direct access to N-H-free 1,5-benzothiazepines in the presence of a chiral N,N'-dioxide/Yb(OTf)3 complex. Excellent enantioselectivities (up to 96 % ee) and high yields (up to 99 %) were obtained for a broad range of substrates under mild reaction conditions. This method provided a facile approach to the antidepressant drug (R)-(-)-Thiazesim.

Abstract
The highly enantioselective sulfa-Michael addition of alkyl thiols to unactivated β-substituted-α,β-unsaturated esters catalyzed by a bifunctional iminophosphorane (BIMP) organocatalyst is described.
The highly enantioselective sulfa-Michael addition of alkyl thiols to unactivated β-substituted-α,β-unsaturated esters catalyzed by a bifunctional iminophosphorane (BIMP) organocatalyst is described. The low acidity of the alkyl thiol pro-nucleophiles is overcome by the high Brønsted basicity of the catalyst and the chiral scaffold/thiourea hydrogen-bond donor moiety provides the required enantiofacial discrimination in the addition step. The reaction is broad in scope with respect to the alkyl thiol and β-substituent of the α,β-unsaturated ester, affords sulfa-Michael adducts in excellent yields (up to >99%) and enantioselectivity (up to 97 : 3 er) and can operate down to 1 mol% catalyst loading.

Abstract
AbstractSulfur and nitrogen (half-)mustard carbonate analogues are a new class of compounds, easily synthesized by methoxycarbonylation reaction of the parent alcohols with dialkyl carbonates. In this work, their reactivity as novel, green electrophiles is reported. Reactions have been conducted in autoclave conditions at high temperature (180°C), under pressure and in absence of any base, as well as, in neat at atmospheric pressure, lower temperature (150°C) and in the presence of a catalytic amount of a base. Several nucleophiles have been investigated resulting, in some cases, in unexpected compounds, i.e., six-membered heterocycle piperidine. Reaction mechanism and kinetics have been studied confirming that these compounds retain the anchimeric effect of their mustard gas analogues, without being toxic. Noteworthy, a symmetrical nitrogen mustard carbonate has also been employed as reagent in the preparation of a new family of macrocycles i.e., azacrowns, before not easily accessible.

Abstract
We present a novel methodology for the asymmetric synthesis of β-mercaptolactones via isomerization of ω-hydroxy-α,β-unsaturated thioesters by means of a bifunctional aminothiourea catalyst. The catalyst interacts with the substrate through the cooperative action of both a covalent bond at the amino group and noncovalent bonding at the thiourea group. The potential for an enantiodivergent synthesis could also be demonstrated by carrying out the reaction in a different solvent system.
