Abstract
High-valent iron-oxo species (FeIV=O) has been a long-sought-after oxygen transfer reagent in biological and catalytic chemistry but suffers from a giant challenge in its gentle and selective synthesis. Herein, we propose a new strategy to synthesize surface FeIV=O (≡FeIV=O) on nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) using chlorite (ClO2-) as the oxidant, which possesses an impressive ≡FeIV=O selectivity of 99%. ≡FeIV=O can be energetically formed from the ferrous (FeII) sites on nZVI through heterolytic Cl-O bond dissociation of ClO2- via a synergistic effect between electron-donating surface ≡FeII and proximal electron-withdrawing H2O, where H2O serves as a hydrogen-bond donor to the terminal O atom of the adsorbed ClO2- thereby prompting the polarization and cleavage of Cl-O bond for the oxidation of ≡FeII toward the final formation of ≡FeIV=O. With methyl phenyl sulfoxide (PMS16O) as the probe molecule, the isotopic labeling experiment manifests an exclusive 18O transfer from Cl18O2- to PMS16O18O mediated by ≡FeIV=18O. We then showcase the versatility of ≡FeIV=O as the oxygen transfer reagent in activating the C-H bond of methane for methanol production and facilitating selective triphenylphosphine oxide synthesis with triphenylphosphine. We believe that this new ≡FeIV=O synthesis strategy possesses great potential to drive oxygen transfer for efficient high-value-added chemical synthesis.

Abstract
A method is described to photochemically oxidize toluene selectively to benzaldehyde, an essential compound in the chemical industry. Copper(I) complexes with different ligands were applied in combination with [Ru(bipy)3 ](PF6 )2 and dioxygen as the oxidant. As a result, a "dioxygen adduct" copper complex, for example, a peroxido complex, is formed as the active species. The copper(II) complex obtained after oxidation can be photochemically reduced to the starting copper(I) species, and the process can be repeated continuously. The ligand tris(2-methylpyridyl)amine (tmpa) led to the highest conversion rates.

Abstract
Harvesting sunlight to drive carbon dioxide (CO2) valorisation represents an ideal concept to support a sustainable and carbon-neutral economy. While the photochemical reduction of CO2 to carbon monoxide (CO) has emerged as a hot research topic, the full CO2-to-CO conversion remains an often-overlooked criterion that prevents a productive and direct valorisation of CO into high-value-added chemicals. Herein, we report a photocatalytic process that unlocks full and fast CO2-to-CO conversion (<10 min) and its straightforward valorisation into human health related field of radiochemistry with carbon isotopes. Guided by reaction-model-based kinetic simulations to rationalize reaction optimisations, this manifold opens new opportunities for the direct access to 11C- and 14C-labeled pharmaceuticals from their primary isotopic sources [11C]CO2 and [14C]CO2.

Abstract
We report a bioinspired heterobimetallic photocatalyst RuIIchrom-FeIIIcat and its relevant applications toward visible-light-driven C-H bond oxidation of a series of hydrocarbons using O2 as the O-atom source. The RuII center absorbs visible light near 460 nm and triggers a cascade of electrons to FeIII to afford a catalytically active high-valent FeIV═O species. The in situ formed FeIV═O has been employed for several high-impact oxidation reactions in the presence of triethanolamine (TEOA) as the sacrificial electron donor.

Abstract
Using light energy and O2 for the direct chemical oxidation of organic substrates is a major challenge. A limitation is the use of sacrificial electron donors to activate O2 by reductive quenching of the photosensitizer, generating undesirable side products. A reversible electron acceptor, methyl viologen, can act as electron shuttle to oxidatively quench the photosensitizer, [Ru(bpy)3 ]2+ , generating the highly oxidized chromophore and the powerful reductant methyl-viologen radical MV+. . MV+. can then reduce an iron(III) catalyst to the iron(II) form and concomitantly O2 to O2 .- in an aqueous medium to generate an active iron(III)-(hydro)peroxo species. The oxidized photosensitizer is reset to its ground state by oxidizing an alkene substrate to an alkenyl radical cation. Closing the loop, the reaction of the iron reactive intermediate with the substrate or its radical cation leads to the formation of two oxygenated compounds, the diol and the aldehyde following two different pathways.

Abstract
We report the use of time-resolved X-ray absorption spectroscopy in the ns-μs time scale to track the light induced two electron transfer processes in a multi-component photocatalytic system, consisting of [Ru(bpy)3]2+/ a diiron(iii, iii) model/triethylamine. EXAFS analysis with DFT calculations confirms the structural configurations of the diiron(iii, iii) and reduced diiron(ii,ii) states.

Abstract
Direct oxygen atom transfer from Mn(iv)-oxo to Ph3P occurs, exhibiting significant steric effects of the ortho-substitution of the phenyl group, whereas in the presence of HOTf, the mechanism is switched to electron transfer from Ph3P to Mn(iv)-oxo, exhibiting no steric effects.

Abstract
In this manuscript, we have overviewed thermal and photoinduced electron transfer catalysis of high-valent metal-oxo porphyrins in oxidation of various substrates. The high-valent iron-oxo porphyrin in cytochrome P450 (P450) is produced by photoinduced electron transfer from electron donors, such as triethanolamine (TEOA), to the excited state of a photosensitizer such as eosin Y, followed by the reduction of the heme domain of P450 by the resulting radical anion of the photosensitizer and the subsequent reaction of the reduced heme with dioxygen (O[Formula: see text]. Various substrates were oxidized by O2 in this visible light-driven electron-transfer catalytic reaction with several P450s from bacteria and humans. A manganese(V)-oxo corrorazine was produced by photoinduced electron transfer from the excited state of manganese(III) corrorazine to O2, followed by hydrogen abstraction from toluene derivatives, catalyzing the oxidation of toluene derivatives with O2 in the presence of an acid via photoinduced electron transfer catalysis. High-valent manganese-oxo porphyrins are also produced by photoinduced electron transfer from the excited state of [Ru(bpy)3][Formula: see text] (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) to electron acceptors, followed by electron transfer oxidation of manganese(III) porphyrins with [Ru(bpy)3][Formula: see text], catalyzing oxidation of various substrates with O2. Finally photoinduced electron-transfer catalysis of cobalt porphyrins is discussed for the photocatalytic water oxidation with persulfate.

Abstract
Development of artificial systems, capable of delivering electrons to metal-based catalysts for the reductive activation of dioxygen, has been proven very difficult for decades, constituting a major scientific lock for the elaboration of environmentally friendly oxidation processes. Here we demonstrate that the incorporation of a flavin mononucleotide (FMN) in a water-soluble polymer, bearing a locally hydrophobic microenvironment, allows the efficient reduction of the FMN by NADH. This supramolecular entity is then capable of catalysing a very fast single-electron reduction of manganese(III) porphyrin by splitting the electron pair issued from NADH. This is fully reminiscent of the activity of natural reductases such as the cytochrome P450 reductases with kinetic parameters, which are three orders of magnitude faster compared with other artificial systems. Finally, we show as a proof of concept that the reduced manganese porphyrin activates dioxygen and catalyses the oxidation of organic substrates in water.

Abstract
Selective α-oxidation of ethers under aerobic conditions is a long-pursued transformation; however, a green and efficient catalytic version of this reaction remains challenging. Herein, we report a new family of iron catalysts capable of promoting chemoselective α-oxidation of a range of ethers with excellent mass balance and high turnover numbers under 1 atm of O2 with no need for any additives. Unlike metalloenzymes and related biomimetics, the catalyst produces H2 as the only byproduct. Mechanistic investigations provide evidence for an unexpected two-step reaction pathway, which involves dehydrogenative incorporation of O2 into the ether to give a peroxobisether intermediate followed by cleavage of the peroxy bond to form two ester molecules, releasing stoichiometric H2 gas in each step. The operational simplicity and environmental friendliness of this methodology affords a useful alternative for performing oxidation, while the unique ability of the catalyst in oxygenating a substrate via dehydrogenation points to a new direction for understanding metalloenzymes and designing new biomimetic catalysts.

Abstract
A new, DMF-coordinated, preorganized diiron compound [Fe2(N-Et-HPTB)(DMF)4](BF4)3 (1) was synthesized, avoiding the formation of [Fe(N-Et-HPTB)](BF4)2 (10) and [Fe2(N-Et-HPTB)(μ-MeCONH)](BF4)2 (11), where N-Et-HPTB is the anion of N,N,N',N'-tetrakis[2-(1-ethylbenzimidazolyl)]-2-hydroxy-1,3-diaminopropane. Compound 1 is a versatile reactant from which nine new compounds have been generated. Transformations include solvent exchange to yield [Fe2(N-Et-HPTB)(MeCN)4](BF4)3 (2), substitution to afford [Fe2(N-Et-HPTB)(μ-RCOO)](BF4)2 (3, R = Ph; 4, RCOO = 4-methyl-2,6-diphenyl benzoate]), one-electron oxidation by (Cp2Fe)(BF4) to yield a Robin-Day class II mixed-valent diiron(II,III) compound, [Fe2(N-Et-HPTB)(μ-PhCOO)(DMF)2](BF4)3 (5), two-electron oxidation with tris(4-bromophenyl)aminium hexachloroantimonate to generate [Fe2(N-Et-HPTB)Cl3(DMF)](BF4)2 (6), reaction with (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxyl to form [Fe5(N-Et-HPTB)2(μ-OH)4(μ-O)(DMF)2](BF4)4 (7), and reaction with dioxygen to yield an unstable peroxo compound that decomposes at room temperature to generate [Fe4(N-Et-HPTB)2(μ-O)3(H2O)2](BF4)·8DMF (8) and [Fe4(N-Et-HPTB)2(μ-O)4](BF4)2 (9). Compound 5 loses its bridging benzoate ligand upon further oxidation to form [Fe2(N-Et-HPTB)(OH)2(DMF)2](BF4)3 (12). Reaction of the diiron(II,III) compound 5 with dioxygen was studied in detail by spectroscopic methods. All compounds (1-12) were characterized by single-crystal X-ray structure determinations. Selected compounds and reaction intermediates were further examined by a combination of elemental analysis, electronic absorption spectroscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy, EPR spectroscopy, resonance Raman spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry.
