Abstract
The construction of allylic quaternary sp3 -carbon centers has long been a formidable challenge in transition-metal-catalyzed alkyl-allyl coupling reactions due to the severe steric hindrance. Herein, we report an effective carbene strategy that employs well-defined vinyl-N-triftosylhydrazones as a versatile allylating reagent to enable direct assembly of these medicinally desirable structural elements from low-cost alkane feedstocks. The reaction exhibited excellent site selectivity for tertiary C-H bonds, broad scope (>60 examples and >20 : 1:0 r. r.) and good efficiency, even on a gram-scale, making it a convenient alternative to the well-known Trost-Tsuji allylation reaction for the formation of alkyl-allyl bonds. Combined experimental and computational studies were employed to unravel the mechanism and origin of site- and chemoselectivity of the reaction.

Abstract
The rhodium(II)-catalyzed reaction of a model alkenyl donor/acceptor N-sulfonyltriazole with a wide selection of furans is reported. This investigation unearthed a range of structurally diverse carbocyclic and ring-opened products, in good to excellent yields. The products obtained are proposed to arise selectively via cyclopropanation or zwitterionic rearrangement pathways, which are highly dependent on both the structural and electronic features of the furan substrate.

Abstract
A modular synthesis of highly substituted 3-azapyrroles has been developed using a three-step sequence comprising copper-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC), N-H bond insertion, and cyclodehydration. 1-Sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles (1-STs) can be accessed from common alkyne and sulfonyl azide building blocks by CuAAC using CuTC. Rhodium(II)-acetate-promoted 1-ST denitrogenation results in highly electrophilic rhodium azavinyl carbenes that, here, underwent insertion into the N-H bond of secondary α-aminoketones to form 1,2-aminoalkenes. These products were cyclized and dehydrated using BF3·OEt2 into highly substituted 3-azapyrroles. The three steps (CuAAC, N-H bond insertion, and cyclodehydration) could be telescoped into a one-pot process. The method proved to be highly efficient and tolerated a wide range of substituents.

Abstract
The reactivity of readily available 4,5-fused-1-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles was examined in the Rh(II)-catalyzed transannulation reaction with nitriles. We have come across the interesting observation that 1-sulfonyl cycloalkeno[d][1,2,3]triazoles that possess β-hydrogens resist intramolecular β-hydride migration and could serve as a new source of Rh-iminocarbenoids for intermolecular Rh(II)-catalyzed transannulation reactions. As a result, 1-sulfonyl cyclohexeno-, cyclohepteno-, dihydropyrano-, 5-phenyltetrahydrobenzo-, and 4,5-dihydronaphtho[d]imidazoles were synthesized from various nitriles in good yields. A one-pot methodology has also been executed for the synthesis of NH-imidazoles.

Abstract
Catalytic asymmetric synthesis of chiral endocyclic allenes remains a challenge in allene chemistry owing to unfavored tension and complex chirality. Here, we present a new relay strategy merging Pd-catalyzed asymmetric [3+2] annulation with enyne-Cope rearrangement, providing a facile route to chiral 9-membered endocyclic allenes with high efficiency and enantioselectivity. Moreover, theoretical calculations and experimental studies were performed to illustrate the critical, but unusual Cope rearrangement that allows for the complete central-to-axial chirality transfer.

Abstract
An intermolecular RhII-catalyzed, formal (4 + 3)-cycloaddition between vinyl ketenes and N-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles for the construction of azepinone products is described. Employing vinyl ketenes as a 1,4-dipolar surrogate, instead of the more commonly used dienyl moieties, allows for the intermolecular and selective formation of azepinone products over a potential (3 + 2)-cycloadduct under mild reaction conditions allows for the generation of azepinone products in up to 98% yield.

Abstract
Short and efficient synthesis of heterocyclic compounds are highly desirable in synthetic organic chemistry. It is a dream approach to accomplish these syntheses from readily available starting materials in a single step. In this personal account, we discuss our contribution in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and beyond from N-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles and α-diazocarbonyl compounds, which are the precursors for α-imino (carbonyl) metal carbenes in the presence of transition metal catalysts. Functionalization of α-imino(carbonyl) metal carbenes has been achieved through in-situ generated metal-stabilized ylides followed by either intramolecular trapping by non-polar bonds, rearrangement, cycloaddition, or 1,3-insertion fashion, which led to the efficient synthesis of various synthetically important intermediates and heterocyclic compounds.

Abstract
The rational tuning of the electrophilicity of the allylpalladium intermediates enables the regioselectively intramolecular 1,2-addition of enynol in the presence of aminal. This aminomethylation and cyclization reaction via C-N bond activation and intramolecular nucleophilic addition provides a rare example for the synthesis of O-containing heterocycle-confined 1,3-dienes, which is of synthetic potential for further derivatization. The method possesses broad substrate generality as well as functional group compatibility and efficiently affords a wide range of desired products with 5-, 6-, and 8-membered O-containing heterocycles with various functional groups.

This method features conversion of pyridotriazoles into two N-fused heterocyclic aromatic systems-imino-thiazolopyridines and oxo-thiazolopyridine derivatives-via one-step Co(II)-catalyzed transannulation reaction proceeding via a radical mechanism. The synthetic usefulness of the developed method was illustrated in the synthesis of amino acid derivatives and further transformations of obtained reaction products.

Abstract
Type II intramolecular cycloadditions ([4+2], [4+3], [4+4] and [5+2]) have emerged recently as an efficient and powerful strategy for the construction of bridged ring systems. In general, type II cycloadditions provide access to a wide range of bridged bicyclo[m.n.1] ring systems with high regio- and diastereoselectivity in an easy and straightforward manner. In each section of this review, an overview of the corresponding type II cycloadditions is presented, which is followed by highlights of method development and synthetic applications in natural product synthesis. The goal of this review is to provide a survey of recent advances in the field covering literature up to 2020. The review will serve as a useful reference for organic chemists engaged in the total synthesis of natural products containing bridged bicyclo[m.n.1] ring systems and provide strong stimulus for invention and further advances in this exciting research field.

Abstract
A (4+3)-cycloaddition combines a four-atom synthon and three-atom synthon to form seven-membered rings. In the past decade, many improvements have been made to this class of cycloaddition, including excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities, both intra- and intermolecularly. Through the strategic use of transition-metal catalysts, acids, bases, and organocatalysts, it is possible to perform the cycloaddition on a variety of substrates, generating novel seven-membered rings. With these advances, (4+3)-cycloaddition has also been applied to the synthesis of biologically relevant compounds and natural products. We exclude the cycloadditions of cyclic dienes such as furan, pyrrole, cyclohexadiene or cyclopentadiene as Chiu, Harmata, Mascareñas and others have recently published thorough reviews on that topic. We will however discuss the recent additions (2009–2020) to the literature for the (4+3)-cycloadditions involving other types of four-atom synthons.1 Introduction2 Rhodium2.1 Cyclopropanation/Cope Rearrangement2.2 C–H activation3 Gold, Silver4 Copper5 Palladium, Platinum, Iridium6 Dual-Activation7 Conclusion

Abstract
A highly efficient and practical method for incorporation of the arylmethylpyridyl moiety into diverse molecules has been developed. This method features the transition metal-free light-induced room temperature transformation of pyridotriazoles into pyridyl carbenes, which are capable of smooth arylation, X-H insertion, and cyclopropanation reactions. The synthetic usefulness of the developed method was illustrated in a facile synthesis of biologically active molecules.

Abstract
We report the catalytic enantio- and diastereoselective preparation of aminocyclopropanes by the cyclopropanation of terminal and (Z)-internal 2-azadienes with donor/acceptor carbenes derived from α-diazoesters. The resulting cyclopropanes bear quaternary carbon stereogenic centers vicinal to the amino-substituted carbon and are formed as a single diastereomer in up to 99:1 er and 97% yield with 0.5 mol % of Rh2(DOSP)4 and only 1.5 equiv of the diazo reagent. Transformations with internal azadienes afford cyclopropanes with three contiguous stereogenic centers.

Abstract
Reactions involving Rh(II)-azavinylcarbenes (Rh(II)-AVCs) to synthesize nitrogen-containing compounds have attracted significant research interest. Despite the importance of these reactions, controlling the chemoselectivities in the reactions involving Rh(II)-AVC remains a challenge. To understand the mechanisms and factors controlling the chemoselectivities between N-H and C═O groups of carbamates and amides in reactions involving Rh(II)-AVC, computational studies were employed. The results reveal that not only the greater nucleophilicity of the N-H group than that of the carbonyl group, but also the presence of H-bonding interactions, could favor the addition of the N-H group of primary carbamates to Rh(II)-AVC. However, for secondary carbamates and amides, they could undergo either chemoselective N-H or C═O addition. Secondary carbamates with less steric hindrance, such as oxazolidinone, prefer the N-H addition mode. However, a switch in chemoselectivity (preference for the C═O addition) was revealed for the sterically hindered secondary carbamates/amides. In addition, a possible O-H addition pathway via the keto-enol tautomerization for isatin and isatoic anhydride was disregarded due to the energetically demanding barrier. Instead, a pathway involving the chemoselective C═O addition, formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition, followed by ring opening was proposed. The origins of the chemoselectivity and the factors responsible were addressed.

Abstract
A new, facile, and efficient protocol for the synthesis of polysubstituted conjugated 1,3-dienes through Ni-catalyzed tandem dimerization/cross-coupling reaction of diarylacetylenes and arylboronic acids in the presence of a catalytic amount of B2pin2 has been developed. A series of arynes and arylboronic acids with different substituents participated well in this catalytic system, affording a variety of useful conjugated 1,3-dienes.

Abstract
An unusual transition metal-free cascade reaction of alkynyl carbonazidates was discovered to form azasilacyclopentenes. Mild thermolysis afforded the products via a series of cyclizations, rearrangements, and an α-silyl C-H bond insertion (rather than the more common Wolff rearrangement, 1,2-shift, or β-silyl C-H insertion) to form silacyclopropanes. A mechanistic proposal for the sequence was informed by control experiments and the characterization of reaction intermediates. The substrate scope and post-cascade transformations were also explored.

Abstract
A highly diastereoselective rhodium(II)-catalyzed transannulation of aldehyde-tethered N-sulfonyl triazoles with electron-rich aromatic nucleophiles is reported for the first time to afford functionalized 6-substituted piperidin-3-ones. The reaction has a broad substrate scope including both aliphatic and aromatic N-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles together with various aromatic nucleophiles. The addition of a catalytic amount of Lewis acid has proven to be crucial for the yield improvement. By employing this methodology, hardly accessible piperidin-3-ones bearing quaternary carbons could be obtained.

Abstract
Azepino[2,3-b]indoles were regioselectively prepared through rhodium-catalyzed formal aza-[4 + 3] cycloaddition between 3-diazoindolin-2-imines and 1,3-dienes in moderate to good yields. Using 2-[(trimethylsilyl)oxy]-1,3-butadiene as the diene component, azepino[2,3-b]indol-4(1H)-ones were constructed. Furthermore, the reactions of cyclic dienes, such as 1,3-cyclohexadiene and 1,3-cyclopentadiene, furnished the corresponding [3 + 2] cycloaddition products.

Abstract
An efficient synthesis of tetrahydrocarboline-type products and polycyclic spiroindolines has been achieved. The transformation proceeds via rhodium(II)-catalyzed intramolecular annulations of indolyl- and pyrrolyl-tethered N-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles. The reaction could be tuned toward either the formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition or the C-H functionalization reaction depending on the electronic and structural features of the substrates, leading to the production of a variety of structurally related heterocyclic compounds.
