Abstract
Immobilized coordination compounds of Lewis acidic metals are powerful catalytic components of systems for the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides that do not require sophisticated coordination frameworks to harness the metal center and modulate its activity. Surface organometallic chemistry (SOMC) is a valuable methodology to prepare well-defined and site-isolated surface complexes and coordination compounds on metal oxides, with ligand environments easily adjustable to a targeted catalytic reaction. In this work, the SOMC methodology is applied to prepare SmII, YbII, and SmIII alkoxide surface complexes on periodic mesoporous (organo)silica of distinct pore symmetry/size for application in the CO2 cycloaddition reaction. The surface complexes are readily accessible by the grafting of the bis(trimethylsilyl)amide precursors LnII[N(SiMe3)2]2(THF)2 (Ln = Sm, Yb) and SmIII[N(SiMe3)2]3, followed by ligand exchange with alcohols (ethanol and neopentanol). The use of periodic mesoporous supports led to hybrid materials with relatively high surface areas and pore sizes, affording good performance in CO2 capture and in the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides under mild conditions (60-80 °C, 1-10 bar). In terms of catalytic performance, recyclability, and low amount of added nucleophile TBAX (X = Br, I), the most active materials prepared in this work compare well to a variety of previously reported SOMC-derived surface complexes and to other heterogeneous Lewis acids displaying more elaborate ligand environments.

Abstract
Disentangled ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (dis-UHMWPE) has excellent processability but can be achieved under extreme conditions. Herein, we report ethylene polymerization with the binuclear half-sandwich scandium complexes C1-Sc2 and C2-Sc2 to afford UHMWPE. C1-Sc2 bearing a short linker shows higher activity and gives higher molecular weight PEs than C2-Sc2 containing a flexible spacer and the mononuclear Sc1 . Strikingly, all UHMWPEs isolated from C1-Sc2 under broad temperature range (25-120 °C) and wide ethylene pressures (2-13 bar) feature very low degree of entanglement as proved by rheological test, DSC annealing study and SEM. These dis-UHMWPEs are facilely mediated solid-state-process at 130 °C and their tensile strength and modulus reach up to 149.2 MPa and 1.5 GPa, respectively. DFT simulations reveal that the formation of dis-UHMWPE is attributed to the binuclear synergic effect and the agostic interaction between the active center and the growing chain.

Abstract
At the dawn of the development of structural organometallic chemistry, soon after the discovery of ferrocene, the description of the LnCp3 complexes, featuring large and mostly trivalent lanthanide ions, was rather original and sparked curiosity. Yet, the interest in these new architectures rapidly dwindled due to the electrostatic nature of the bonding between π-aromatic ligands and 4f-elements. Almost 70 years later, it is interesting to focus on how the discipline has evolved in various directions with the reports of multiple catalytic reactivities, remarkable potential in small molecule activation, and the development of rich redox chemistry. Aside from chemical reactivity, a better understanding of their singular electronic nature - not precisely as simplistic as anticipated - has been crucial for developing tailored compounds with adapted magnetic anisotropy or high fluorescence properties that have witnessed significant popularity in recent years. Future developments shall greatly benefit from the detailed reactivity, structural and physical chemistry studies, particularly in photochemistry, electro- or photoelectrocatalysis of inert small molecules, and manipulating the spins' coherence in quantum technology.

Abstract
Trinuclear molecular complexes of europium (II) and ytterbium(II) [Ln3{(Ph2SiO)2O}3(THF)6], 1-Ln3L3 (Ln = Eu and Yb), supported by the dianionic tetraphenyl disiloxanediolate ligand, were synthesized via protonolysis of the [Ln{N(SiMe3)2}2(THF)2] complexes. In contrast, the reaction of [Sm{N(SiMe3)2}2(THF)2] with the (Ph2SiOH)2O ligand led to the isolation of the mixed-valent Sm(II)/Sm(III) complex [Sm3{(Ph2SiO)2O}3{N(SiMe3)2}(THF)4], 2-Sm3L3, which was crystallographically characterized. The Eu(II) complex 1-Eu3L3 displays weak ferromagnetic coupling between the Eu(II) metal centers (J = 0.1035 cm-1). The addition of 3 equiv of (Ph2SiOK)2O to 1-Eu3L3 resulted in the formation of the polynuclear Eu(II) dimer of dimers [K4Eu2{(Ph2SiO)2O}4(Et2O)2]2, 3-Eu2L4. Complexes 1-Ln3L3 (Ln = Eu and Yb) are stable in solution at room temperature, while 3-Eu2L4 shows higher reactivity and rapidly decomposes to give the mixed-valent Eu(II)/Eu(III) species [K3Eu2{(Ph2SiO)2O}4], 4-Eu2L4. Complex 1-Yb3L3 affects the slow reductive disproportionation of carbon dioxide, but 1-Eu3L3 does not display any reactivity toward CO2. However, the presence of one additional (Ph2SiO-)2O per Eu(II) metal center in 3-Eu2L4 increases dramatically the reductive ability of the Eu(II) metal centers, affording the first example of carbon dioxide activation by an isolated divalent europium complex. The reduction of CO2 by 3-Eu2L4 is immediate, and carbonate is formed selectively after the addition of a stoichiometric amount of CO2.

Abstract
The recovery of rare-earth from secondary sources is essential for cleaner production. The development of natural biocomposites is promising for this purpose. Sericin is a waste protein from silk manufacturing. The highly polar groups on the surface of sericin facilitate blending and crosslinking with other polymers to produce biocomposites with improved properties. In this work, we investigate ytterbium recovery onto a natural biocomposite based on sericin/alginate/poly(vinyl alcohol) (SAPVA) in packed-bed column, aiming to establish a profitable application for sericin. Effects of flow rate and ytterbium inlet concentration showed that the highest exhaustion biosorption capacity (128.39 mg/g) and lowest mass transfer zone (4.13 cm) were reached under the operating conditions of 0.03 L/h and 87.95 mg/L. Four reusability cycles were performed under the optimum operating conditions using 0.3 mol/L HNO3. Ytterbium recovery was highly successful; desorption efficiency was higher than 97% and a final ytterbium-rich concentrate (3870 mg/L) was 44 times higher than input concentration. Regenerated beads characterization showed that the cation exchange mechanism plays a major function in continuous biosorption of ytterbium. SAPVA beads also showed higher biosorption/desorption performance for ytterbium than other competing ions. These results suggest the application of SAPVA may be an alternative for large-scale ytterbium recovery.

Abstract
Hydroboration of amides is a useful synthetic strategy to access the corresponding amines. In this contribution, it was found that the supported lanthanum benzyl material La(CH2C6H4NMe2-o)3@SBA-15 was highly active for the hydroboration of primary, secondary, and tertiary amides to amines with pinacolborane. These reactions selectively produced target amines and showed good tolerance for functional groups such as -NO2, -halogen, and -CN, as well as heteroatoms such as S and O. This reduction procedure exhibited the recyclable and reusable property of heterogeneous catalysts and was applicable to gram-scale synthesis. The reaction mechanisms were proposed based on some control experiments and the previous literature. This is the first example of hydroborative reduction of amides to amines mediated by heterogeneous catalysts.

Molecular and supported Ti(iii)-alkyls: efficient ethylene polymerization driven by the π-character of metal-carbon bonds and back donation from a singly occupied molecular orbital. Abstract
While Ti(iii) alkyl species are the proposed active sites in Ziegler–Natta ethylene polymerization catalysts, the corresponding well-defined homogeneous catalysts are not known. We report that well-defined neutral β-diiminato Ti(iii) alkyl species, namely [Ti(nacnac)(CH2tBu)2] and its alumina-grafted derivative [(AlsO)Ti(nacnac)(CH2tBu)], are active towards ethylene polymerization at moderate pressures and temperatures and possess an electron configuration well-adapted to insertion of ethylene. Advanced EPR spectroscopy showed that ethylene insertion into a Ti(iii)–C bond takes place during polymerization from Ti(nacnac)(CH2tBu)2. A combination of pulsed EPR spectroscopy and DFT calculations, based on a crystal structure of [Ti(nacnac)(CH2tBu)2], enabled us to reveal details about the structure and electronic configurations of both molecular and surface-grafted species. For both compounds, the α-agostic C–H interaction, which involves the singly occupied molecular orbital, indicates a π character of the metal–carbon bond; this π character is enhanced upon ethylene coordination, leading to a nearly barrier-less C2H4 insertion into Ti(iii)–C bonds after this first step. During coordination, back donation from the SOMO to the π*(C2H4) occurs, leading to stabilization of π-ethylene complexes and to a significant lowering of the overall energy of the C2H4 insertion transition state. In d1 alkyl complexes, ethylene insertion follows an original “augmented” Cossee–Arlman mechanism that involves the delocalization of unpaired electrons between the SOMO, π*(C2H4) and σ*(Ti–C) in the transition state, which further favors ethylene insertion. All these factors facilitate ethylene polymerization on Ti(iii) neutral alkyl species and make d1 alkyl complexes potentially more effective polymerization catalysts than their d0 analogues. Ti(iii) alkyl species polymerize ethylene via an original mechanism, which involves back donation to the π*(C2H4) and a delocalization of the unpaired electron in the transition state of C2H4 insertion into the partially alkylidenic Ti(iii)–C bond.![]()

Abstract
The aim of this study was the valorization of titanium flakes (waste) from titanium and titanium alloy ingot production factories and using in applications related to metals recovery as retention bed for some trace metals. The titanium flakes were anodized for surface nanostructuration with TiO2 nanotubes and then annealed in order to increase the surface stability. The nanostructured titanium flakes were loaded and pressed in a retention column linked with inductively coupled plasma spectrometer (ICP-OES). This system allowed determination of trace elements such as beryllium, lanthanum, lutetium, and ytterbium from sample solutions. Beryllium recovery percentage was over 90%, while lanthanides have just a satisfactory recovery percentage (about 65% Yb and Lu and 50% La). The TiO2 nanotube architecture was not affected during utilization being able to perform for a long time. A thermodynamic and kinetic study was done for beryllium due to its successful adsorption recovery percentage. The obtained results showed that the titanium waste is a promising material for rare earth and relatively rare earth elements retention and recovery. Graphical abstract Graphical abstract.

Abstract
Reduction of the uranium(III) metallocene [(η5 -C5 i Pr5 )2 UI] (1) with potassium graphite produces the "second-generation" uranocene [(η5 -C5 i Pr5 )2 U] (2), which contains uranium in the formal divalent oxidation state. The geometry of 2 is that of a perfectly linear bis(cyclopentadienyl) sandwich complex, with the ground-state valence electron configuration of uranium(II) revealed by electronic spectroscopy and density functional theory to be 5f3 6d1 . Appreciable covalent contributions to the metal-ligand bonds were determined from a computational study of 2, including participation from the uranium 5f and 6d orbitals. Whereas three unpaired electrons in 2 occupy orbitals with essentially pure 5f character, the fourth electron resides in an orbital defined by strong 7s-6d z 2 mixing.
