Abstract
Few-atom metal clusters (FAMCs) exhibit superior performance in catalyzing complex molecular transformations due to their special spatial environments and electronic states, compared to single-atom catalysts (SACs). However, achieving the efficient and accurate synthesis of FAMCs while avoiding the formation of other species, such as nanoparticles and SACs, still remains challenges. Herein, we report a two-step strategy for synthesis of few-atom platinum (Pt) clusters by predeposition of zinc single-atom-glue (Zn1) on MgO nanosheets (Ptn-Zn1/MgO), where FAMCs can be obtained over a wide range of Pt contents (0.09 to 1.45 wt %). Zn atoms can act as Lewis acidic sites to allow electron transfer between Zn and Pt through bridging O atoms, which play a crucial role in the formation and stabilization of few-atom Pt clusters. Ptn-Zn1/MgO exhibited a high selectivity of 93 % for anti-Markovnikov alkene hydrosilylation. Moreover, an excellent activity with a turnover frequency of up to 1.6×104 h-1 can be achieved, exceeding most of the reported Pt SACs. Further theoretical studies revealed that the Pt atoms in Ptn-Zn1/MgO possess moderate steric hindrance, which enables high selectivity and activity for hydrosilylation. This work presents some guidelines for utilizing atomic-scale species to increase the synthesis efficiency and precision of FAMCs.

Abstract
Single-atom heterogeneous catalysts (SAHCs) provide an enticing platform for understanding catalyst structure-property-performance relationships. The 100% atom utilization and adjustable local coordination configurations make it easy to probe reaction mechanisms at the atomic level. However, the progressive deactivation of metal-single-atom (MSA) with high surface energy leads to frequent limitations on their commercial viability. This review focuses on the atomistic-sensitive reactivity and atomistic-progressive deactivation of MSA to provide a unifying framework for specific functionality and potential deactivation drivers of MSA, thereby bridging function, purpose-modification structure-performance insights with the atomistic-progressive deactivation for sustainable structure-property-performance accessibility. The dominant functionalization of atomically precise MSA acting on properties and reactivity encompassing precise photocatalytic reactions is first systematically explored. Afterward, a detailed analysis of various deactivation modes of MSA and strategies to enhance their durability is presented, providing valuable insights into the design of SAHCs with deactivation-resistant stability. Finally, the remaining challenges and future perspectives of SAHCs toward industrialization, anticipating shedding some light on the next stage of atom-economic chemical/energy transformations are presented.

Abstract
A strategy for the synthesis of a gold-based single-atom catalyst (SAC) via a one-step room temperature reduction of Au(III) salt and stabilization of Au(I) ions on nitrile-functionalized graphene (cyanographene; G-CN) is described. The graphene-supported G(CN)-Au catalyst exhibits a unique linear structure of the Au(I) active sites promoting a multistep mode of action in dehydrogenative coupling of organosilanes with alcohols under mild reaction conditions as proven by advanced XPS, XAFS, XANES, and EPR techniques along with DFT calculations. The linear structure being perfectly accessible toward the reactant molecules and the cyanographene-induced charge transfer resulting in the exclusive Au(I) valence state contribute to the superior efficiency of the emerging two-dimensional SAC. The developed G(CN)-Au SAC, despite its low metal loading (ca. 0.6 wt %), appear to be the most efficient catalyst for Si-H bond activation with a turnover frequency of up to 139,494 h-1 and high selectivities, significantly overcoming all reported homogeneous gold catalysts. Moreover, it can be easily prepared in a multigram batch scale, is recyclable, and works well toward more than 40 organosilanes. This work opens the door for applications of SACs with a linear structure of the active site for advanced catalytic applications.

Abstract
Single-atom catalysts hold the potential to significantly impact the chemical sector, pushing the boundaries of catalysis in new, uncharted directions. These materials, featuring isolated metal species ligated on solid supports, can exist in many coordination environments, all of which have shown important functions in specific transformations. Their emergence has also provided exciting opportunities for mimicking metalloenzymes and bridging the gap between homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. This Review outlines the impressive progress made in recent years regarding the use of single-atom catalysts in organic synthesis. We also illustrate potential knowledge gaps in the search for more sustainable, earth-abundant single-atom catalysts for synthetic applications.

Abstract
In this work, we have fabricated an aryl amino-substituted graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) catalyst with atomically dispersed Mn capable of generating hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) directly from seawater. This new catalyst exhibited excellent reactivity, obtaining up to 2230 μM H2O2 in 7 h from alkaline water and up to 1800 μM from seawater under identical conditions. More importantly, the catalyst was quickly recovered for subsequent reuse without appreciable loss in performance. Interestingly, unlike the usual two-electron oxygen reduction reaction pathway, the generation of H2O2 was through a less common two-electron water oxidation reaction (WOR) process in which both the direct and indirect WOR processes occurred; namely, photoinduced h+ directly oxidized H2O to H2O2 via a one-step 2e- WOR, and photoinduced h+ first oxidized a hydroxide (OH-) ion to generate a hydroxy radical (•OH), and H2O2 was formed indirectly by the combination of two •OH. We have characterized the material, at the catalytic sites, at the atomic level using electron paramagnetic resonance, X-ray absorption near edge structure, extended X-ray absorption fine structure, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, magic-angle spinning solid-state NMR spectroscopy, and multiscale molecular modeling, combining classical reactive molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemistry calculations.

Abstract
Single-atom catalysts have become a popular choice in various catalysis applications, as they take advantages of both homogeneous catalysis (e.g., high efficiency) and heterogeneous catalysis (e.g., easy catalyst recovery). The atom support plays an indispensable role in anchoring atomic species and interplaying with them for ultimate catalytic performance. Therefore, development of new support materials for superior catalysis is of great importance. Here the synthesis of carbon nanofibers based on the reaction between phosphorus pentoxide (P2 O5 ) and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is reported. The underlying reaction process is systematically investigated by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The carbon nanofibers have interesting PN units in their chemical structure, which act as anchoring sites for the single-atom catalyst. The Pt atoms anchoring carbon nanofibers exhibit high activity for hydrosilylation with a turnover frequency (TOF) of 9.2 × 106 h-1 and a selectivity of >99%. This research affords not only a new in situ chemical strategy to synthesize multiatom doped carbon nanofibers but also presents a potential superior support in catalysis, which opens a hopeful window in materials chemistry and catalysis applications.

Abstract
Selective hydrogenation is one of the most important reactions in fine chemical industry, and the activation of H2 is the key step for hydrogenation. Catalysts play a critical role in selective hydrogenation, and some single-atom catalysts (SACs) are highly capable of activating H2 in selective hydrogenation by virtue of the maximized atom utilization and the highly uniform active sites. Therefore, more research efforts are needed for the rational design of SACs with superior H2 -activating capabilities. Herein, the research progress on H2 activation in typical hydrogenation systems (such as alkyne hydrogenation, hydroformylation, hydrodechlorination, hydrodeoxygenation, nitroaromatics hydrogenation, and polycyclic aromatics hydrogenation) is reviewed, the mechanisms of SACs for H2 activation are summarized, and the structural regulation strategies for SACs are proposed to promote H2 activation and provide schemes for the design of high-selectivity hydrogenation catalysts from the atomic scale. At the end of this review, an outlook on the opportunities and challenges for SACs to be developed for selective hydrogenation is presented.

Abstract
The hydrosilylation reaction is one of the largest-scale applications of homogeneous catalysis, and Pt homogeneous catalysts have been widely used in this reaction for the commercial manufacture of silicon products. However, homogeneous Pt catalysts result in considerable problems, such as undesired side reactions, unacceptable catalyst residues and disposable platinum consumption. Here, we synthesized electron-deficient Pt single atoms supported on humic matter (Pt1 @AHA_U_400), and the catalyst was used in hydrosilylation reactions, which showed super activity (turnover frequency as high as 3.0×107 h-1 ) and selectivity (>99 %). Density functional theory calculations reveal that the high performance of the catalyst results from the atomic dispersion of Pt and the electron deficiency of the Pt1 atoms, which is different from conventional Pt nanoscale catalysts. Excellent performance is maintained during recycle experiments, indicating the high stability of the catalyst.
