Abstract
Cancer has emerged as a significant global health challenge, ranking as the second leading cause of death worldwide. Moreover, cancer patients frequently experience compromised immune systems, rendering them susceptible to bacterial infections. Combining anticancer and antibacterial properties in a single drug could lead to improved overall treatment outcomes and patient well-being. In this context, the present study focused on a series of hydrophilic naphthoimidazolium salts with donor groups (NI-R), aiming to create dual-functional agents with antibacterial and anticancer activities. Among these compounds, NI-TPA demonstrated notable antibacterial activity, particularly against drug-resistant bacteria, with MIC value of 7.8 μg mL-1. Furthermore, NI-TPA exhibited the most potent cytotoxicity against four different cancer cell lines, with an IC50 range of 0.67-2.01 μg mL-1. The observed high cytotoxicity of NI-TPA agreed with molecular docking and dynamic simulation studies targeting c-Met kinase protein. Additionally, NI-TPA stood out as the most promising candidate for two-photo excitation, fluorescence bioimaging, and localization in lysosomes. The study findings open new avenues for the design and development of imidazolium salts that could be employed in phototheranostic applications for cancer treatment and bacterial infections.

Abstract
Microorganisms attach to surfaces and interfaces and form biofilms which create a sheltered area for host cell response. Therefore, biofilms provide troubles in fields such as medicine, food, and pharmaceuticals. Inhibition of formation of biofilms through hindering of quorum sensing could be a method for the production of new generation antibiotics. In this study, four new benzimidazole type NHC precursors (1-allyl-3-benzyl-5,6-dimethylbenzimidazolium chloride, 1-allyl-3-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzyl)-5,6-dimethylbenzimidazolium chloride, 1-allyl-3-(2,3,5,6-tetramethylbenzyl)-5,6-dimethylbenzimidazolium chloride, and 1-allyl-3-(2,3,4,5,6-pentamethylbenzyl)-5,6-dimethylbenzimidazolium chloride and Ag-NHC complexes of these molecules were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, 1H, and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopy, LC-MS, and single crystal crystallography. Antimicrobial and biofilm formation inhibition activities of the molecules were evaluated. In addition, the activities of the molecules were examined in detail by molecular docking analysis. According to the results obtained, higher activity was achieved with the complex molecules when compared with the benzimidazole derivative ligands.

Abstract
Multi-ligand self-assembly to attain the AgI -N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-built hexanuclear organometallic cages of composition [Ag6 (3 a,b)4 ](PF6 )6 from the reaction of benzimidazole-derived tris(azolium) salts [H3 -3 a,b](PF6 )3 with Ag2 O was achieved. The molecular structures of the cages were established by X-ray diffraction studies along with NMR and MS analyses. The existence of a single assembly in solution was supported by diffusion-ordered spectroscopy (DOSY) 1 H NMR spectra. Further, transmetalation reactions of these self-assembled complexes, [Ag6 (3 a,b)4 ](PF6 )6 , with CuI /AuI -ions provided various coinage metal-NHC complexes having diverse molecular compositions, which included the first example of a hexanuclear CuI -dodecacarbene complex, [Cu6 (3 b)4 ](PF6 )6 .

Abstract
In this contribution, a series of sterically-encumbered coumarin substituted benzimidazole-based N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors (1-12) and their silver(I)-NHC complexes (13-24) are reported. Molecular structure of NHC precursors 8 and 12 and cationic complexes 15 and 16 was established by single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The silver(I) complexes demonstrated various significant intramolecular agostic-like interactions operating between the metal center and the hydrogen atoms of the substituents alongside a variety of feeble π-π stacking interactions. A distorted linear coordination geometry is documented at the silver(I) center with the anti-arrangement of the ligands. Further, the complexes demonstrated promising antibacterial properties against Gram positive and Gram negative bacterial strains, especially complex 18 displayed a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 2 and 4 μg/mL against S. aureus and E. coli, and P. aeruginosa, respectively. Furthermore, complexes 14, 15, 16 and 18 were found cytotoxic against the human lung cancer cell lines A549 and H1975 with the IC50 (concentration of the test sample required to kill 50% of the cell population) value under 10 μM, while mono-NHC complex 20 displayed a potential drug window with the IC50 of 13.7 ± 2.70 and 14.5 ± 1.20 μM against the cancer cell lines H1975 and A549, respectively. Notably, these complexes displayed relatively lesser cytotoxic behaviour against the normal skin fibroblast cell line, Hs68. All the NHC precursors displayed significantly lower biological activities compared with their respective complexes, indicating the utility of silver(I) ions in antimicrobial and antilung cancer applications.

Abstract
AbstractSilver(I)-N-heterocyclic carbene (Ag(I)-NHC) complexes of mononuclear and binuclear species, synthesised by our group and others in recent years, offer a fascinating outlook on their bioactivity. These complexes advance a range of adaptable structural patterns, leading to intra-specific variation in anticancer and antimicrobial activities. This study therefore reviews the synthesis, structural analysis and bioactivity of Ag complexes derived from mononuclear-NHC complexes either with coordinating or non-coordinating anions and binuclear NHC complexes. Specifically, the effect of stability, chain lengths and lipophilicity on the biological activity of recently reported Ag(I)-NHC complexes is reviewed. These complexes can be further explored as novel antibacterial and anticancer drugs in the nearest future.

Abstract
With the growth of aging population, there is increasing demand to develop strategy to improve the aging process and aging-related diseases. Benzimidazole and its derivatives are crucial heterocyclic backbone of many drugs and compounds with diverse therapeutic applications, including alleviation of aging-related diseases. Here, we investigate if the benzimidazole derivative n-butyl-[1H]-benzimidazol-2-amine (M084), a novel inhibitor of TRPC4 and TRPC5 channels and antidepressant, could affect the lifespan of Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). Our results showed that M084 could extend the lifespan of C. elegans, delay age-related decline of phenotypes, and improve stress resistance. M084 could not extend the lifespan of the loss-of-function mutants of daf-16, daf-2, pdk-1, aak-2, clk-1, isp-1, sir-2.1, and skn-1. M084 could decrease the ATP level and increase the gene expression of mitochondrial unfolded protein response factors. Thus, M084 might inhibit the mitochondrial respiration, activate mitochondrial unfolded protein response and AMPK, recruite SIR-2.1 and SKN-1, and finally through the transcription factor DAF-16, delay the aging process of C. elegans. Our findings reveal the new pharmaceutical potential of benzimidazole derivatives and provide clue for developing novel anti-aging agents.
