Incorporation of azo group at axial position of silatranes: synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activity

Solvent-Free and Efficient Synthesis of Silatranes via an Organocatalytic Protocol under Mild Conditions

The organocatalytic approach to the formation of silatranyl cages permitted the design of a solvent-free and efficient protocol for the preparation of various organosilatranes. We discovered that amidine derivatives efficiently catalyze the conversion of trialkoxysilanes into organosilatranes, and their catalytic activity is related to the pKBH+ values. NMR studies of equimolar reactions of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) and 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD) with selected substrates allowed proposing a reliable scheme for the transesterification process and silatranyl cage formation. In addition, green chemistry metrics for the scaled-up synthesis of vinylsilatrane (3k) were appointed. Finally, a scheme for the industrial production of silatrane derivatives with DBU and solvent regeneration was proposed, supported by a catalyst recycling experiment.

Identification of Unknown Substances in Ambient Air (PM10), Profiles and Differences between Rural, Urban and Industrial Areas

A fast and automated strategy has been developed for identifying unknown substances in the atmosphere (concretely, in the particulate matter, PM₁₀) using LC-HRMS (MS³). A total of 15 samples were collected in three different areas (rural, urban and industrial). A sampling flow rate of 30 m³ h⁻¹ was applied for 24 h, sampling a total volume of around 720 m³. A total of 49 compounds were tentatively identified using very restrictive criteria regarding exact mass, retention time, isotopic profile and both MS² and MS³ spectra. Pesticides, pharmaceutical active compounds, drugs, plasticizers and metabolites were the most identified compounds. To verify whether the developed methodology was suitable, 11 substances were checked with their analytical standards and all of them were confirmed. Different profiles for industrial, rural and urban areas were examined. The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) model allowed us to separate the obtained data of the three assessed area. When the profiles obtained in the three evaluated areas were compared using a Volcano plot (the rural area was taken as reference), 11 compounds were confirmed as being discriminant: three of them (3-hydroxy-2-methylpyridine, 3-methyladenine and nicotine) were more likely to be found in industrial sites; ten compounds (3-hydroxy-2-methylpyridine, 3-methyladenine, azoxystrobin, cocaine, cotinine, ethoprophos, imidacloprid, metalaxyl-M, nicotine and pyrimethanil) were more probable in the case of urban sites; finally, triisopropanolamine was more likely to be detected in rural locations.

Hypercoordinated Oligosilanes Based on Aminotrisphenols

The hypercoordinated silicon chlorides ClSi[(o-OC₆H₄)₃N] (3) and ClSi[(OC₆H₂Me₂CH₂)₃N] (5) were used for the synthesis of catenated derivatives (Me₃Si)₃SiSi[(o-OC₆H₄)₃N] (9), (Me₃Si)₃SiSiMe₂SiMe₂Si(SiMe₃)₂Si[(o-OC₆H₄)₃N] (11), and (Me₃Si)₃SiSi[(OC₆H₂Me₂CH₂)₃N] (13) in reactions with (Me₃Si)₃SiK·THF (7) or (Me₃Si)₃SiK·[18-crown-6] (8). It was found that the nature of the (Me₃Si)₃SiK solvate determines the product of interaction, resulting in the formation of (Me₃Si)₃Si(CH₂)₄OSi[(OC₆H₂Me₂CH₂)₃N] (12) or 13. Compounds obtained were characterized using multinuclear NMR and UV-vis spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The molecular structures of 3, 9, and 11-13 were investigated by single-crystal X-ray analysis, featuring hypercoordinated Si atoms in a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination environment with O atoms in the equatorial plane. The structure of the side product [N(CH₂C₆H₂Me₂O)₃Si]₂O (6) was also studied, indicating highly tetrahedrally distorted trigonal-bipyramidal environment at the Si atoms, which was confirmed by crystal density functional theory calculations indicating the very weak Si ← N interaction. The Si···N interatomic distances span a broad range (2.23-2.78 Å). The dependence of structural and NMR parameters for hypercoordinated catenated compounds from the type of the ligand was established.
