Abstract
Adsorption materials are a cost-effective and simple method for oil spill remediation, but their efficiency is limited by high crude oil viscosity. Additionally, non-degradable materials pose another risk of secondary pollution, such as microplastic debris. Here, an environmentally-friendly stereo-complex polylactide composite (SCC) aerogel were developed via water-assisted thermally induced phase separation. The SCC with 3 wt% carbon nanotubes had a hierarchical structure of micro/nanoscale pores and high content of stereo-complex crystallites (35.7 %). Along with the excellent water repellency (water contact angle: 157°), SCC aerogel was 2.7 times as resistant to hydrolysis than poly(l-lactide) aerogel (Ph = 13, 37 °C). Additionally, a maximum absorption capacity of 41.2 g g-1 and over 97 % oil/water separation efficiency after 10 cycles were obtained in low viscosity conditions; while in high viscosity conditions, it displayed excellent photothermal performance, reaching a surface temperature of 85 °C under 1 sunlight, reducing crude oil absorption time from 42 min to 60 s (97.6 %-time savings). Moreover, it facilitated continuous crude oil spill recovery under sunlight with an adsorption rate of 3.3 × 104 kg m-3 h-1. The SCC aerogel presents a potential route for utilizing solar energy in crude oil adsorption applications without additional environmental burden.

Abstract
Hybrid polymeric materials incorporating carbon nanostructures or inorganic constituents stand as a promising class of materials exhibiting distinct but also complementary features. Carbon nanotubes have been proposed as unique candidates for polymer reinforcement; however, sustained efforts are further needed in order to make full use of their potential. The final properties of the reinforced polymer are controlled in part by the morphology and the eventual molecular orientation of the polymer matrix. In the present study, multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were utilized in order to reinforce polyethylene terephthalate (PET) composites. The effect of CNTs on the crystallization and the orientation of the structurally hybridized polymeric material has been investigated from the perspective of assessing their impact on the final properties of a relevant nanocomposite product. Functionalized MWCNTs were used to achieve their optimal dispersion in the polymer matrix. The physical properties of the composites (i.e., crystallinity and orientation) were characterized via differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and polarized Raman microscopy. The addition of well-dispersed CNTs acted as a nucleation agent, increasing the crystallization of the polyethylene terephthalate matrix and differentiating the orientation of both CNTs and macromolecular chains.

Abstract
Poly(ethylene terephthalate)/graphite (PET/G) micro-composites were fabricated by the melt compounding method using a minilab extruder. The carbon fillers were found to act as nucleating agents for the PET matrix and hence accelerated crystallization and increased the degree of crystallinity. TGA showed that carbon fillers improved the resistance to thermal and thermo-oxidative degradation under both air and nitrogen atmospheres. However, a poor agreement was observed at higher loadings of the filler where the composites displayed reduced reinforcement efficiency. The results demonstrate that the addition of graphite at loading >14.5 wt.% made electrically conductive composites. It was calculated that the electric conductivities of PET/graphite micro-composites were enhanced, above the percolation threshold values by two orders of magnitudes compared to the PET matrix. The minimum value of conductivity required to avoid electrostatic charge application of an insulating polymer was achieved, just above the threshold values. The addition of graphite also improved thermal stability of PET, accelerated its crystallization process and increased the degree of crystallinity. Microscopic results exhibit no indication of aggregations at 2 wt.% graphite, whereas more agglomeration and rolling up could be seen as the graphite content was increased in the PET matrix (in particular, above the percolation threshold value). Furthermore, based on the mechanical experimental characterization of the PET/graphite micro-composites, a large deformation-based mathematical model is proposed for material behavior predictions. The model fits well the experimental data and predicts other mechanical data that are not included in the parameter identification.

Abstract
Maleic anhydride-grafted carbon fiber (CF- g-MAH) was prepared by a solid-phase grafting method. The rheological behavior, morphology, mechanical properties, and nonisothermal crystallization behavior of pure poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and PET/CF and PET/CF- g-MAH composites were investigated. The rheological analyses and mechanical tests show that the addition of CF or CF- g-MAH increased the complex viscosity and mechanical properties of PET. The morphology observations confirm that the introduction of the MAH group on the surfaces of the CF enhanced the interactions between the CF and PET, resulting in the fine dispersion of CF- g-MAH in the PET matrix. In addition, the analyses of the nonisothermal crystallization behavior of pure PET and the PET/CF and PET/CF- g-MAH composites show that CF or CF- g-MAH can act as a heterogeneous nucleating agent in PET and accelerate its crystallization. Compared to CF, CF- g-MAH is a more effective nucleator for PET.

Abstract
Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) composites containing carbon fiber (CF) or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-grafted carbon fiber (PMMA-g-CF) were prepared by melt compounding. The rheology, non-isothermal crystallization behavior, and mechanical and thermal properties of pure PET, PET/CF and PET/PMMA-g-CF composites were investigated. The results show that the addition of CF or PMMA-g-CF significantly increases the storage modulus (G′), loss modulus (G″), and complex viscosity (η*) of the composites at low frequency. The Cole-Cole plots confirm that the surface modification of CF leads to a better interaction between the CF and PET, and then decreases the heterogeneity of the polymeric systems, which is confirmed by the SEM observation on the tensile fracture surface of the composites. Non-isothermal crystallization analysis shows that the CF or PMMA-g-CF could serve as nucleation agent to accelerate the crystallization rate of the composites, and the effect of PMMA-g-CF is stronger than that of CF. The result is further confirmed by the analysis of the crystallization activation energy for all composites calculated by the Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method. Moreover, the tensile and impact strength and the thermal stability of the composites are improved by CF, while the incorporation of PMMA-g-CF further enhances the tensile and impact strength and thermal stability.
