Abstract
The C-O bond is ubiquitous in biologically active molecules, pharmaceutical agents, and functional materials, thereby making it an important functional group. Consequently, the development of C-O bond-forming reactions using catalytic strategies has become an increasingly important research topic in organic synthesis because more conventional methods involving strong base and acid have many limitations. In contrast to the ionic-pathway-based methods, copper-promoted radical-mediated C-O bond formation is experiencing a surge in research interest owing to a renaissance in free-radical chemistry and photoredox catalysis. This Perspective highlights and appraises state-of-the-art techniques in this burgeoning research field. The contents are organized according to the different reaction types and working models.

Abstract
We report a copper-catalyzed alkoxycyclization of tryptamine derivatives with O2 as the sole oxidant, leading to a variety of C3a-alkoxypyrroloindolines in good yields with high diastereoselectivities. This reaction involves an interesting double catalytic cycle in which copper-catalyzed carboamination cyclization is favored to form the C-3 radical pyrrolidinoindoline intermediate, then a copper-catalytic radical alkoxylation reaction proceeds smoothly.

Abstract
This manuscript describes a visible-light-mediated organophotoredox catalytic process for vicinal difunctionalization of alkenes using heteroatom nucleophiles and aliphatic redox active esters. A wide range of heteroatom nucleophiles including alcohols, water, carboxylic acids, amides, and halogens can be used for this reaction. This radical relay type reaction allows forging of C(sp3)-C(sp3) with a carbon-centered radical and C(sp3)-heteroatom bonds with a benzyl cation on the vinylarenes with complete regioselectivity in a single step.

Abstract
Metal and catalyst-free carbohydroxylations and carboetherifications at room temperature have been achieved by a combination of beneficial factors including high aryl diazonium concentration and visible light irradiation. The acceleration of the reaction by visible light irradiation is particularly remarkable against the background that neither the aryldiazonium salt nor the alkene show absorptions in the respective range of wavelength. These observations point to weak charge transfer interactions between diazonium salt and alkene, which are nevertheless able to considerably influence the reaction course. As highly promising perspective, many more aryldiazonium-based radical arylations might benefit from simple light irradiation without requiring a photocatalyst or particular additive.

Abstract
We report the first example of oxazoline-/copper-catalyzed alcohol oxidation to generate the alkoxyl radical under additive-free conditions. The resulting alkoxyl radical addition to alkene enables useful C-O bond-forming and selective C(sp3)-C(sp3) radical-radical dimerization/radical-trapping reactions, providing direct access to the 3a,3a'-bisfuro[2,3-b]indoline scaffold for the first time and a wide range of 3-alkoxyl furoindolines with high efficiency.

Abstract
Photoinduced, copper-catalyzed coupling reactions are emerging as a powerful method for generating Csp3-Y (Y = C or heteroatom) bonds from alkyl electrophiles and nucleophiles. Corresponding three-component couplings of alkyl electrophiles, olefins, and nucleophiles have the potential to generate an additional Csp3-Y bond and to efficiently add functional groups to both carbons of an olefin, which serves as a readily available linchpin. In this report, we establish that a variety of electrophiles and a trifluoromethylthiolate nucleophile can add across an array of olefins (including styrenes and electron-poor olefins) in the presence of CuI/binap and blue-LED irradiation, thereby generating trifluoromethyl thioethers in good yield. The process tolerates a wide range of functional groups, and an initial survey of other nucleophiles (i.e., bromide, cyanide, and azide) suggests that this three-component coupling strategy is versatile. Mechanistic studies are consistent with a photoexcited Cu(I)/binap/SCF3 complex serving as a reductant to generate an alkyl radical from the electrophile, which likely reacts in turn with the olefin and a Cu(II)/SCF3 complex to afford the coupling product.

Abstract
Facile intramolecular amination of unactivated alkenes has been achieved by using electricity as a catalyst that helps to generate an intermediate and accelerates formation of cyclic ureas in high yields. Using this method, no metal catalysts were used. During electrolysis, a nitrogen radical was formed at the urea substrate that cyclised with the alkene and generated a terminal carbon radical which further formed a bond with the 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl radical (TEMPO). This method of electrolysis not only gives cyclic ureas but also functionalises terminal unactivated alkenes. This method can be considered to be environmentally friendly given that it avoids the issues of toxicity or complicated metal ligands and could therefore be potentially employed in green chemistry.

Abstract
A new copper-facilitated oxidative cyclization of 2-allenyl-1,1'-biphenyls with α-carbonyl alkyl bromides for producing functionalized phenanthrenes is presented, which represents the first allene 2,3-dicarbofunctionalization triggered by oxidative radical-medicated C3-addition of the terminal allene moiety and C-Br/C-H functionalization.

Abstract
Difunctionalization of alkenes has become a powerful tool for quickly increasing molecular complexity in synthesis. Despite significant progress in the area of alkene difunctionalization involving the incorporation of a nitrogen atom across the C-C double bonds, approaches for the direct 1,2-carboamination of alkenes to produce linear N-containing molecules are scarce and remain a formidable challenge. Here we describe a radical-mediated oxidative intermolecular 1,2-alkylamination of alkenes with alkyl nitriles and amines involving C(sp3)-H oxidative functionalization catalysed by a combination of Ag2CO3 with iron Lewis acids. This three-component alkene 1,2-alkylamination method is initiated by the C(sp3)-H oxidative radical functionalization, which enables one-step formation of two new chemical bonds, a C-C bond and a C-N bond, to selectively produce γ-amino alkyl nitriles.

Abstract
Copper catalysis now enables the efficient C-alkylation of nitroalkanes with α-bromonitriles. Using a simple and inexpensive catalyst, this process provides access to β-cyanonitroalkanes. The method is highly tolerant of various functional groups and substitution patterns. These functionally dense products serve as orthogonally masked 1,3-diamines, which can be revealed selectively for access to differentially substituted diamines. These products can also be exploited for the formation of complex cyanoalkenes and 5-aminoisoxazoles.
