Abstract
Background The incidence rate of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is increasing annually; however, there are still no effective methods for establishing an early diagnosis and conducting real-time tracing. Vaspin can affect the metabolic processes in the body, and it is closely associated with many metabolic diseases. Many previous studies have speculated on the association between vaspin and MAFLD, but the results of these studies have not been conclusive. This meta-analysis examined the differences in circulating vaspin levels between patients with MAFLD and healthy individuals. Methods Six databases and other sources were searched with free terms and Medical Subject Headings terms, and a total of 13 articles were included (900 cases and 669 controls). RevMan 5.3 and Stata 16 were used for analysis. The standardised mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to assess the overall outcomes. Cohen’s kappa coefficient was applied to examine the differences between the two authors in the selection of studies and in the evaluation of the quality of evidence for the studies. Results The results demonstrated that there was no significant difference in the circulating vaspin levels between the MAFLD group and healthy group (SMD = 0.46, 95% CI: [− 0.12, 1.04]). The subgroup analysis suggested that area and body mass index (BMI) may be the sources of heterogeneity, and the results of univariate meta-regression analysis were consistent with those of the subgroup analysis (P = 0.005 and P < 0.001, respectively). Furthermore, BMI may better explain the source of heterogeneity (P = 0.032) in the multivariate meta-regression analysis. Conclusion In summary, no significant correlation was observed between the circulating vaspin levels and MAFLD. BMI may be an important factor affecting this correlation, which may provide a reference for further studies on mechanism and diagnosis of MAFLD. Abstract
Objective: The influence of vaspin on vascular health had been investigated, yielding conflicting results. This study is intended to investigate the relation between vaspin and stroke severity and stroke outcome in a cohort Chinese patient with acute ischemic stroke (AIS).Methods: This was a prospective single-center observational study in Xinxiang, China. From 1 July 2017 to 30 November 2019, all patients with first-ever AIS were consecutively included. Serum levels of vaspin, stroke severity at (assessed by NIHSS score) admission and functional outcome (assessed by modified Rankin Scale (mRS)) at discharge were recorded. Multivariate analyses were assessed using logistic regression models.Results: Finally, 340 patients with AIS were included. The median age of those patients was 65 (interquartile range [IQR], 56-74) years and 61.8% were men. At admission, 88 patients (25.9%) experienced severe stroke (NIHSS>10) and serum levels of vaspin (median [IQR]: 0.72[0.48-0.90]ng/ml) in those patients were significantly lower than in those mild(0.92[0.70-1.19]ng/ml) and moderate stroke (0.93[0.63-1.21]ng/ml). At discharge, 113 patients (33.2%) experienced poor functional outcome (mRS >2) and vaspin serum levels in those patients were lower as compared with patients who experienced good outcome (0.71[0.45-0.98] vs. 0.91[0.71-1.19]ng/ml). In multivariate analyses, lower level of vaspin (< median) was associated with a 2.5-fold (odds ratio [OR] 2.46; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.75-4.45) increased risk for severe stroke and a 2.1-fold (2.03; 1.42-3.58) increased risk for poor outcome.Conclusion: In conclusion, reduced serum levels of vaspin at admission are significantly related to stroke severity and prognosis, which illustrates a predictive role of reduced vaspin in ischemic stroke.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a deficiency in how the body regulates glucose. Uncontrolled T2D will result in chronic high blood sugar levels, eventually resulting in T2D complications. These complications, such as kidney, eye, and nerve damage, are even harder to treat. Identifying individuals at high risk of developing T2D and its complications is essential for early prevention and treatment. Numerous studies have been done to identify biomarkers for T2D diagnosis and prognosis. This review focuses on recent T2D biomarker studies based on circulating nucleic acids using different omics technologies: genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics. Omics studies have profiled biomarker candidates from blood, urine, and other non-invasive samples. Despite methodological differences, several candidate biomarkers were reported for the risk and diagnosis of T2D, the prognosis of T2D complications, and pharmacodynamics of T2D treatments. Future studies should be done to validate the findings in larger samples and blood-based biomarkers in non-invasive samples to support the realization of precision medicine for T2D.

Abstract
The global burden of obesity has multiplied owing to its rapidly growing prevalence and obesity-related morbidity and mortality. In addition to the classic role of depositing extra energy, adipose tissue actively interferes with the metabolic balance by means of secreting bioactive compounds called adipokines. While most adipokines give rise to inflammatory conditions, the others with anti-inflammatory properties have been the novel focus of attention for the amelioration of cardiometabolic complications. This review compiles the current evidence on the roles of anti-inflammatory adipokines, namely, adiponectin, vaspin, the C1q/TNF-related protein (CTRP) family, secreted frizzled-related protein 5 (SFRP5), and omentin-1 on cardiometabolic health. Further investigations on the mechanism of action and prospective human trials may pave the way to their clinical application as innovative biomarkers and therapeutic targets for cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

Abstract
Mounting evidence indicates an association between adipokines and inflammation-related atherosclerosis. Here, we sought to investigate the association of vaspin and omentin with clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with acute cerebral ischemia (ACI). Consecutive ACI patients were evaluated within 24 h from symptom-onset. Stroke aetiology was classified using TOAST criteria. Adipokines were assayed using quantikine enzyme immunoassay commercially available kits. Stroke severity was assessed by NIHSS-score, and ipsilateral carotid stenosis (≥50% by NASCET criteria) by ultrasound and CT/MR angiography. Major cerebrovascular events were assessed at three months. We included 135 ACI patients (05 (78%) and 30 (22%) with acute ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack, respectively; mean age ± SD: 59 ± 10 years; 68% men; median NIHSS-score: 3 (IQR:1–7)). Omentin was strongly correlated to admission stroke severity (Spearman rho coefficient: +0.303; p < 0.001). Patients with ipsilateral carotid stenosis had higher omentin levels compared to patients without stenosis (13.3 ± 8.9 ng/mL vs. 9.5 ± 5.5 ng/mL, p = 0.014). Increasing omentin levels were independently associated with higher stroke severity (linear regression coefficient = 0.290; 95%CI: 0.063–0.516; p = 0.002) and ipsilateral carotid stenosis (linear regression coefficient = 3.411; 95%CI: 0.194–6.628; p = 0.038). No association of vaspin with clinical characteristics and outcomes was found. Circulating omentin may represent a biomarker for the presence of atherosclerotic plaque, associated with higher stroke severity in ACI patients.

Abstract
Gestational diabetes and jaundice are the correlated diseases predominantly found in mother and newborn child. Jaundice is a neonatal complication with an increased risk when mother has gestational diabetes. Mothers with diabetes at an early stage of gestational age are at higher risk for hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice) and hypoglycemia. So, it is mandatory to monitor the condition of diabetes and jaundice during the pregnancy period for a healthy child and safest delivery. On the other hand, nanotechnology has displayed a rapid advancement that can be implemented to overcome these issues. The development of high-performance diagnosis using appropriate biomarkers provides their efficacy in the detection gestational diabetes and jaundice. This review covers the aspects from a fast-developing field to generate nanosensors in the nanosized dimensions for the applications to overcome these complications by coupling diagnostics with biomarkers. Further, the serum-based biomarkers have been discussed for these inborn complications and also the diagnosis with the current trend.

Abstract
Adipose tissue acts as an active endocrine organ secreting a number of adipokines and may be involved in biological mechanism of stroke. Vaspin, apelin, and visfatin play important roles in the regulation of vascular disorders.Our aim was to evaluate whether the concentrations of vaspin, apelin, and visfatin were associated with stroke risk.A total of 235 patients with stroke (156 patients with ischemic stroke and 79 patients with hemorrhagic stroke) and 235 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were included in this study. A sandwich ELISA was developed to measure the serum vaspin, apelin, and visfatin levels.There was a statistically significant difference in the median levels of serum vaspin, apelin, and visfatin levels between stroke cases and controls (vaspin: 1.50 vs 1.07 ng/ml; apelin: 1.56 vs 1.32 pg/ml; visfatin: 23.40 vs 19.65 ng/ml; all P values <.001). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that, serum vaspin and visfatin levels were significantly inversely associated with increased risk of stroke, and the odds ratios (ORs) in the highest tertile were 2.25 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.38-3.67; P for trend <.001] for vaspin and 2.56 (95% CI 1.46-4.47; P for trend <.001) for visfatin, respectively, compared with the lowest tertile. Higher apelin levels were marginally associated with lower stroke risk (P for trend =.060).Our study indicated that higher vaspin, apelin, and visfatin levels might be associated with increased stroke risk. Necessary prospective cohort studies should be conducted to confirm this association in the future.

Abstract
AIMS This study intends to explore the role of Vaspin and cholesterol metabolism in the process of osteoarthritis (OA) and its mechanism in vitro and in vivo. MAIN METHODS In vitro, chondrocytes were treated with interleukin-1β (IL-1β, 20 ng/mL) in combination with Vaspin at different concentrations for 48 h. The expressions of Aggrecan (ACAN), Collagen 2a1 (Col2a1), A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase with Thrombo Spondin type 1 motifs 5 (ADAMTS 5), and Matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP13) were detected. In vivo, the expression of liver X receptor (LXRα) and other Cholesterol efflux related genes were detected in the rat OA knee cartilage-induced by papain. KEY FINDINGS In vitro, in a concentration-dependent manner, Vaspin reversed the decreased expression of ACAN and Col2a1, and the increased expression of ADAMTS 5 and MMP13 caused by IL-1β. Besides, Vaspin promoted the expression of LXRα and other Cholesterol efflux related genes in a concentration-dependent manner in chondrocytes. However, miR155 mimics reversed the Vaspin-induced expression changes of cholesterol efflux pathway in chondrocytes. In vivo, the expression of LXRα and other Cholesterol efflux related genes were decreased in the rat OA knee cartilage-induced by papain. Besides, the level of Vaspin was reduced and the miroRNA155 (miR155) expression was increased in OA knee cartilage of rats. SIGNIFICANCE In conclusion, the decreased expression of Vaspin inhibited the expression of Cholesterol efflux pathway via miR155/LXRα. Finally, the inhibited Cholesterol efflux pathway led to the cholesterol accumulation and OA in cartilage.

Abstract
Aims/Introduction Vaspin is linked to obesity and its metabolic abnormalities. However, the role of vaspin serum levels in diabetic retinopathy (DR) is unknown. In the present study, we investigated the association between serum levels of vaspin and both DR and vision‐threatening DR. Materials and Methods This was a cross‐sectional single‐center observational study from December 2018 to September 2019. We evaluated circulating serum levels of vaspin in 372 participants with type 2 diabetes. DR was screened through detailed ocular examination. DR patients were also divided two groups: vision‐threatening DR and non‐vision‐threatening DR. The relationship between vaspin and DR was investigated by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, and the results are shown as odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals. Results The vaspin serum levels of 372 patients were obtained, with a median value of 1.50 ng/mL (interquartile range 0.94–2.18 ng/mL). The median age of those patients was 53 years (interquartile range 44–62 years), and 44.4% were women. Patients with DR and VDTR had significantly increased vaspin serum levels (P < 0.001 andP < 0.001). A multivariable regression model found that patients with high levels of vaspin were approximately 1.85‐fold (odds ratio for per unit increase 1.85, 95% confidence interval 1.43–2.55; P < 0.001) more likely to experience DR, and 3.76‐fold (odds ratio for per unit increase 3.76, 95% confidence interval 2.05–6.55; P < 0.001) more likely to experience VTDR. The predictive value of vaspin was stronger in women than in men. Conclusion Higher vaspin serum levels were associated with an increased risk of DR and VDTR in patients with type 2 diabetes, which showed that vaspin is an important indicator factor for DR.
