Dynamic residual pattern of azoxystrobin in Swiss chard with contribution to safety evaluation

Method development of multi pesticide residue analysis in country beans collected from Dhaka, Bangladesh, and their dietary risk assessment

The aim of the study was to develop a modified QuEChERS method coupled with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for the simultaneous determination of five multi-class pesticides in country beans collected from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Pesticides were extracted using ACN, and to minimize the co-extraction matrix, optimized d-SPE cleanup was done using sorbents (GCB, PSA, and C18). In the calibration range, the method showed excellent linearity with a correlation coefficient of R2 ≥ 0.9990 both in solvent- and matrix-matched calibration. For the selected pesticides, average recoveries (at four spiking levels (n = 5) of 10, 20, 100, and 200 µg/kg) of 70-100 % were achieved with relative standard deviations (RSDs) ≤ 9.5 %. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) ranged from 0.3333 to 1.3333 μg/kg and 1.0 to 4.0 μg/kg, respectively. The dietary risk assessment, in terms of hazard quotient (HQ), was calculated to assess consumers' health risks.

Dissipation Kinetics and Risk Assessment of Diniconazole, Dinotefuran, Metconazole, and Tebuconazole in Raphanus sativus L

This study investigated the degradation characteristics and conducted a risk assessment of four pesticides (Diniconazole, Dinotefuran, Metconazole, and Tebuconazole) in the leaves and roots of radish. Radish was cultivated in two greenhouse fields, and samples were collected at 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 10 days after pesticide application. Sample analysis was performed using LC-MS/MS, and the recovery rates ranged from 70.1% to 118.6%. The biological half-life of Diniconazole was found to be 6.2 days (leaf and root), Dinotefuran was 5.3 days (leaf) and 4.6 days (root), Metconazole was 9.3 days (leaf) and 3.2 days (root), and Tebuconazole was 8.0 days (leaf) and 5.1 days (root). After comparing the maximum residue limits (MRL) of each pesticide in Korea with the residues during the pre-harvest interval (PHI), Diniconazole showed a Hazard quotient (HQ) exceeding 1, indicating potential risks for true consumers. Furthermore, Tebuconazole showed an HQ of 0.3 or higher, indicating a significant level of risk.

Fungicide Dissipation Kinetics and Dietary Exposure Risk Assessment in Squash Fruit and Leaf

The dissipation behavior and dietary exposure risk assessment of four fungicides (dimethomorph, mandipropamid, myclobutanil, and metalaxyl) was performed in fruits and leaves of squash grown under greenhouse conditions. Squash fruit and leaf samples were randomly collected at 0, 3, 5, 7, and 14 days after the last pesticide application. Analysis was performed using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). The quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) method was used for sample preparation. Recovery rates at two spiked levels (0.01 and 0.1 mg/kg) were found to be in the range of 76.4%-101.9% for the analyzed pesticides and their relative standard deviations were ≤4%. Pesticide half-lives were 2.1 and 4.9 days for dimethomorph, 4.6 and 8.1 days for mandipropamid, 4.7 and 8.2 days for myclobutanil, and 2.7 and 5 days for metalaxyl in squash fruit and leaf, respectively. Regarding the total surveyors, hazard quotient values for squash fruit and leaf were ≤1.03 × 10^-3 and ≤2.39 × 10^-3, respectively. These values in the case of true consumers were ≤3.14 × 10^-3 and ≤3.91 × 10^-1, respectively.

Dissipation behavior and dietary exposure risk of pesticides in Brussels sprout evaluated using LC-MS/MS

In this study, the dissipation behavior and dietary exposure risk of eight pesticides in Brussels sprout were evaluated under greenhouse conditions. Brussels sprout samples were collected 0, 7, 14, and 21 days after the last pesticide treatment. Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry was used for sample analysis. Recovery rates at different concentrations of pesticides (0.01 and 0.1 mg/kg) were in the range of 70.2–104.5%, and the relative standard deviations were ≤ 10.6%. The pesticide residues in Brussels sprouts were determined for each treatment. For acephate, etofenprox, imidacloprid, indoxacarb, alpha-cypermethrin, zeta-cypermethrin, fludioxonil, and oxytetracycline, the half-lives were, respectively, 11.3, 9.8, 11.3, 15.8, 10.6, 13, 9.1, and 8.2 d and the dietary intake rates were, respectively, 2.90%, 0.81%, 0.7%, 1.19%, 0.06%, 0.24%, 0.05%, and 0.36% of the acceptable daily intake. The findings of this study provide important insights into the establishment of maximum residue limits in the Republic of Korea and pesticide control measures for Brussels sprout.

Behavior of acetamiprid, azoxystrobin, pyraclostrobin, and lambda-cyhalothrin in/on pomegranate tissues

Pomegranate crop is affected by several insect pests and requires usage of a large number of pesticides, but the information on their behavior in pomegranate tissues is limited. A study was conducted to assess the behavior of acetamiprid, azoxystrobin, pyraclostrobin, and lambda-cyhalothrin in pomegranate fruits and leaves. The QuEChERS analytical method and LC-MS/MS and GC-MS were used for quantification of the analytes. The LOD (limit of detection) of acetamiprid, azoxystrobin, and pyraclostrobin was 0.0015 mg kg^-1 and lambda-cyhalothrin was 0.003 mg kg^-1. The respective LOQ (limit of quantification) was 0.005 and 0.01 mg kg^-1. The dissipation of the analytes best fitted into first-order rate kinetics and the half-lives of the chemicals in pomegranate fruits were 9.2-13 days and in the leaves were 13.5-17 days. In the pomegranate aril, the residue levels of acetamiprid, lambda-cyhalothrin, and pyraclostrobin were always < LOQ of these chemicals. Azoxystrobin was detected in pomegranate aril, and its residue was highest at 0.04 mg kg^-1 on the 10th day and reached < LOQ by the 25th day. The pre-harvest interval (PHI) required for acetamiprid, azoxystrobin, pyraclostrobin, and lambda-cyhalothrin at standard-dose treatment was 50, 58, 44, and 40 days, respectively. From double-dose treatment, the PHIs were 70, 75, 58, and 54 days, respectively. The pesticides used in this study were more persistent in the pomegranate leaves compared to the fruits. The outcome of this study can be incorporated into production of pomegranate fruits safe for consumption and to meet the domestic and export quality control requirements.

Dissipation of the Insecticide Cyantraniliprole and Its Metabolite IN-J9Z38 in Proso Millet during Cultivation

The dissipation patterns of cyantraniliprole and its metabolite IN-J9Z38 were investigated using proso millet (Panicum miliaceum) under open-field conditions to establish a pre-harvest interval. A simple and sensitive analytical method was developed for analyzing residues using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) for multiple reaction monitoring of target compounds. The analytical method was validated in terms of the instrumental limit of quantitation, method limit of quantitation, linearity, accuracy, and precision. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of cyantraniliprole and IN-J9Z38 residues in the field samples of four plots, which were treated twice with an oil dispersion formulation, according to the date of pesticide treatment before harvest. In the case of cyantraniliprole in grain and straw, there was a 91.1 and 89.1% decrease, respectively, from the initial residues (14–7 days) to the final plot (40–30 days before harvest). However, IN-J9Z38 gradually increased over time, indicating that cyantraniliprole transformed into IN-J9Z38 during cultivation. The biological half-lives of total cyantraniliprole were 11.3 and 9.4 days for grain and straw, respectively. The results obtained in this study will inform regulation and management of pesticide use for the minor crop proso millet.

Dissipation Kinetics and the Pre-Harvest Residue Limits of Acetamiprid and Chlorantraniliprole in Kimchi Cabbage Using Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry

The dissipation behaviors of acetamiprid and chlorantraniliprole in kimchi cabbages were studied under open-field conditions. A simple and rapid analytical method was developed using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). The multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) conditions of two pesticides were optimized to quantify and identify the pesticide residues. Sample preparation was performed by the QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe) method. Average recovery rates at the different spiked levels (0.05 and 0.25 mg/kg) were in the range of 103.6-113.9% (acetamiprid) and 80.8-91.2% (chlorantraniliprole), and the relative standard deviations were ≤4.3% for all. The dissipation kinetics were assessed using first-order equations after spraying acetamiprid and chlorantraniliprole individually on kimchi cabbages. The biological half-lives in field 1 and 2 were 5.2 and 6.3 days (acetamiprid) and 10.0 and 15.2 days (chlorantraniliprole), respectively. Based on the dissipation equations, the pre-harvest residue limits (PHRLs) corresponding to each day before harvest were suggested as the guidelines to meet the MRL on harvest day. It was also predicted that the terminal residues observed after multiple sprayings (three and seven days) would be below the MRL when harvested, in compliance with the established pre-harvest intervals.
