Abstract
The Pd-catalyzed annulative π-extension of 1,8-dibromonaphthalene for the preparation of fluoranthenes in a single operation has been investigated. With specific arenes such as fluorobenzenes, the Pd-catalyzed double functionalization of C-H bonds yields the desired fluoranthenes. The reaction proceeds via a palladium-catalyzed direct intermolecular arylation, followed by a direct intramolecular arylation step. As the C-H bond activation of several benzene derivatives remains very challenging, the preparation of fluoranthenes from 1,8-dibromonaphthalene via Suzuki coupling followed by intramolecular C-H activation has also been investigated to provide a complementary method. Using the most appropriate synthetic route and substrates, it is possible to introduce the desired functional groups at positions 7-10 on fluoranthenes.

Abstract
AbstractPd-catalyzed direct arylation of 2-alkylthiazoles is a well-known reaction affording the corresponding 2-alkyl-5-arylthiazoles in very high yields. Conversely, the reactivity of 2-alkoxythiazoles has not been described yet. Herein, we report conditions for the Pd-catalyzed regioselective C5-arylation of 2-alkoxythiazoles. Moreover, we also found reaction conditions leading to 3-alkyl-5-arylthiazol-2(3H)-ones via a one-pot direct arylation with an O- to N-alkyl migratory rearrangement. The judicious choice of reaction temperature and time allows control over the selectivity of the reaction. In general, at 100 °C, 2-alkoxy-5-arylthiazoles were the major products, whereas, at 120 °C with a longer reaction time, 3-alkyl-5-arylthiazol-2(3H)-ones were obtained with good selectivities. The arylation reaction is promoted by a ligand-free air-stable palladium catalyst and a simple and inexpensive base, without oxidant or further additives, and tolerates a variety of useful substituents on the aryl bromide and also heteroaryl bromides.

Abstract
Novel magnetically recoverable nanocatalyst comprising nickel-palladium (NiPd) alloy nanoparticles (NPs) supported on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) modified with cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) NPs was fabricated for the direct C-H arylation of imidazopyridine, imidazole, indolizine and furan with aryl halides. To prepare the presented catalyst, rGO nanosheets were first modified with as-synthesized CoFe2O4 NPs and then the obtained CoFe2O4-rGO nanocomposites served as a support material for the synthesis of bimetallic NiPd alloy NPs at various compositions. The obtained CoFe2O4-rGO/NiPd nanocatalysts were characterized by many advanced analytical techniques including TEM, STEM-EDS, XRD, XPS, and ICP-MS. Next, to optimize the reaction conditions, CoFe2O4-rGO/NiPd nanocatalysts with different alloy compositions and their monometallic counterparts (CoFe2O4-rGO/Ni and CoFe2O4-rGO/Pd) were initially tested in the direct C-H arylation of imidazopyridine with bromobenzene. Among all tested nanocatalysts under the optimum reaction conditions, CoFe2O4-rGO/Ni20Pd80 showed the best catalytic activity in terms of the isolated product yields. The C-H arylation reactions were studied over a broad substrate scope (35 examples from 36 substrates) and gave the related biaryl products in good to excellent yields. Besides a broad substrate scope, the late-stage C-H arylation of zolimidine, a gastroprotective drug, was realized under the optimized reaction conditions. Moreover, the CoFe2O4-rGO/Ni20Pd80 nanocatalysts were recovered from the reaction medium using a simple magnet and reused in the C-H arylation reactions up to five consecutive runs without a significant drop in the product yield. This study shows that magnetically recoverable Pd nanoalloys are promising heterogeneous catalysts to be used in sustainable C-H functionalization reactions.

Abstract
The increasing attention towards environmentally friendly synthetic protocols has boosted studies directed to the development of green and sustainable methods for direct C-H bond arylation of (hetero)arenes. In this context, here the infrared (IR) irradiation-assisted solvent-free Pd-catalyzed direct C-H bond arylation of (hetero)arenes was achieved. Several heteroaryl-aryl coupling reactions were described, also involving heterocycles commonly used as building blocks for the synthesis of organic semiconductors. The reaction tolerated many functional groups on the aromatic nuclei. The IR-irradiation as the energy source compared favorably with thermal heating and, in combination with solvent-free conditions, provided an important contribution to the development of protocols fitting with the principles of green chemistry.

Abstract
Direct C-H bond activation of heterocycles as a step-economical and environmentally friendly approach to build the heterobiaryls motifs is highly attractive, but it still has a challenge to design and prepare a cheap and regioselective heterogeneous catalyst. To tackle this challenge, we have introduced Ni species into a porous phenanthroline-based organic polymer donated as POP-Phen@Ni. This heterogeneous catalyst shows excellent catalytic performances in regioselective C-H activation of heterocycles, even better than those of the corresponding homogenous catalyst. H/D exchange experiments show that the lithium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide (LiHMDS), a base added in the reaction, play a very important role during the reaction processes. We believe that this heterogeneous catalyst would open a new door for design of heterogeneous catalysts to efficiently catalyze the regioselective C-H activation of heterocycles.

Abstract
(DiMeIHeptCl)Pd, a hyper-branched N-aryl Pd NHC catalyst, has been shown to be efficient at performing amine arylation reactions in solvent-free ("melt") conditions. The highly lipophilic environment of the alkyl chains flanking the Pd center serves as lubricant to allow the complex to navigate through the paste-like environment of these mixtures. The protocol can be used on a multi-gram scale to make a variety of aniline derivatives, including substrates containing alcohol moieties.

Abstract
Direct arylation of most five-membered ring heterocycles are generally easily accessible and strongly favored at the α-position using classical palladium-catalysis. Conversely, regioselective functionalization of such heterocycles at the concurrent β-position remains currently very challenging. Herein, we report general conditions for regioselective direct arylation at the β-position of pyrazoles, while C-H α-position is free. By using aryl bromides as the aryl source and a judicious choice of solvent, the arylation reaction of variously N-substituted pyrazoles simply proceeds via β-C-H bond functionalization. The β-regioselectivity is promoted by a ligand-free palladium catalyst and a simple base without oxidant or further additive, and tolerates a variety of substituents on the bromoarene. DFT calculations revealed that a protic solvent such as 2-ethoxyethan-1-ol significantly enhances the acidity of the proton at β-position of the pyrazoles and thus favors this direct β-C-H bond arylation. This selective pyrazoles β-C-H bond arylation was successfully applied for the straightforward building of π-extended poly(hetero)aromatic structures via further Pd-catalyzed combined α-C-H intermolecular and intramolecular C-H bond arylation in an overall highly atom-economical process.

Abstract
Sequence-specific C-arylation strategies have important applications in medicinal and material research. These strategies allow C-C bond formations in a regioselective manner to synthesize large molecular libraries for studying structure-activity profiles. The past decade has seen the development of single C-C bond forming reactions using various transition-metal catalysts, cryogenic metalation strategies, and metal-free methods. Sequential arylations of heterocycles allow for the formation of multiaryl derivatives and are a preferred choice over de novo synthetic routes. This perspective sheds light on recent strategic advances to develop various sequential synthetic routes for the multiarylation of heteroarenes. This perspective addresses many challenges in optimizing sequential routes with respect to catalysts, reaction parameters, and various strategies adopted to obtain diversely arylated products.

Abstract
The direct functionalization of two different C-H bonds of the same organic molecule using different procedures - also called regiodivergent C-H bond functionalization - currently represents an important research topic in organic chemistry, as it demonstrates the versatility of C-H bond functionalization methodology. Over the last decade, the number of tools to control such regiodivergent C-H bond functionalizations has increased significantly. In this account, we will present the various tools that allowed us to arylate different positions of various (hetero)arenes, via a C-H bond functionalization, using palladium or ruthenium catalysis.

Abstract
Solvent accounts for majority of the waste derived from synthetic transformations. This implies that by making changes to the solvent used by either switching to greener options, reducing the volume of solvent used, or even better avoiding the use of solvent totally will have a positive impact on the environment. Herein, the focus will be on the use of bio-based-green-solvents in C-C crosscoupling reactions highlighting the recent developments in this field of research. Emphasis in this review will be placed on developments obtained for Mizoroki-Heck, Hiyama, Stille, and Suzuki- Miyaura cross-couplings. For these cross-coupling reactions, good reaction conditions utilizing green solvents are now available.

Abstract
The Pd-catalyzed C–H bond functionalization of lilolidine was investigated. The use of a palladium-diphosphine catalyst associated to acetate bases in DMA was found to promote the regioselective arylation at α-position of the nitrogen atom of lilolidine with a wide variety of aryl bromides. From these α-arylated lilolidines, a second arylation at the β-position gives the access to α,β-diarylated lilolidines containing two different aryl groups. The one pot access to α,β-diarylated lilolidines with two identical aryl groups is also possible by using a larger amount of aryl bromide. The synthesis of 5,6-dihydrodibenzo[a,c]pyrido[3,2,1-jk]carbazoles from lilolidine via three successive direct arylations is also described. Therefore, this methodology provides a straightforward access to several lilolidine derivatives from commercially available compounds via one, two or three C–H bond functionalization steps allowing to tune their biological properties.

Abstract
Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H functionalization of 7-arylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines was developed wherein the pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine moiety is reported for the first time to direct the C-H bond activation. Various 7-arylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidines underwent smooth C-H amidation with alkyl-, aryl-, and heteroaryl-substituted dioxazolones to afford the products in moderate to good yields. Mechanistic studies suggest that a six-membered rhodacycle intermediate involving N1 might play a key role in the regioselective catalytic cycle.
