Abstract
Classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations represent a very popular and powerful tool for materials modeling and design. The predictive power of MD hinges on the ability of the interatomic potential to capture the underlying physics and chemistry. There have been decades of seminal work on developing interatomic potentials, albeit with a focus predominantly on capturing the properties of bulk materials. Such physics-based models, while extensively deployed for predicting the dynamics and properties of nanoscale systems over the past two decades, tend to perform poorly in predicting nanoscale potential energy surfaces (PESs) when compared to high-fidelity first-principles calculations. These limitations stem from the lack of flexibility in such models, which rely on a predefined functional form. Machine learning (ML) models and approaches have emerged as a viable alternative to capture the diverse size-dependent cluster geometries, nanoscale dynamics, and the complex nanoscale PESs, without sacrificing the bulk properties. Here, we introduce an ML workflow that combines transfer and active learning strategies to develop high-dimensional neural networks (NNs) for capturing the cluster and bulk properties for several different transition metals with applications in catalysis, microelectronics, and energy storage, to name a few. Our NN first learns the bulk PES from the high-quality physics-based models in literature and subsequently augments this learning via retraining with a higher-fidelity first-principles training data set to concurrently capture both the nanoscale and bulk PES. Our workflow departs from status-quo in its ability to learn from a sparsely sampled data set that nonetheless covers a diverse range of cluster configurations from near-equilibrium to highly nonequilibrium as well as learning strategies that iteratively improve the fingerprinting depending on model fidelity. All the developed models are rigorously tested against an extensive first-principles data set of energies and forces of cluster configurations as well as several properties of bulk configurations for 10 different transition metals. Our approach is material agnostic and provides a methodology to transfer and build upon the learnings from decades of seminal work in molecular simulations on to a new generation of ML-trained potentials to accelerate materials discovery and design.

Abstract
The ring-opening Si-fluorination of a variety of azasilole derivatives cyclo-1-(iPr2 Si)-4-X-C6 H3 -2-CH2 NR (4: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=H; 4 a: R=2,4,6-Me3 C6 H2 , X=H; 9: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=tBuMe2 SiO; 10: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=OH; 13: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=HCCCH2 O; 22: R=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 , X=tBuMe2 SiCH2 O) with different 19 F-fluoride sources was studied, optimized and the experience gained was used in a translational approach to create a straightforward 18 F-labelling protocol for the azasilole derivatives [18 F]6 and [18 F]14. The latter constitutes a potential clickable CycloSiFA prosthetic group which might be used in PET tracer development using Cu-catalysed triazole formation. Based on our findings, CycloSiFA has the potential to become a new entry into non-canonical labelling methodologies for radioactive PET tracer development.

Abstract
![]()
Two routes to the
antimalarial drug Pyronaridine are described.
The first is a linear sequence that includes a two-step, one-pot transformation
in an aqueous surfactant medium, leading to an overall yield of 87%.
Alternatively, a convergent route utilizes a telescoped three-step
sequence involving an initial neat reaction, followed by two steps
performed under aqueous micellar catalysis conditions affording Pyronaridine
in 95% overall yield. Comparisons to existing literature performed
exclusively in organic solvents reveal a 5-fold decrease in environmental
impact as measured by E Factors.

Abstract
The combination of gold(I) and enzyme catalysis is used in a two-step approach, including Meyer-Schuster rearrangement of a series of readily available propargylic alcohols followed by stereoselective bioreduction of the corresponding allylic ketone intermediates, to provide optically pure β,β-disubstituted allylic alcohols. This cascade involves a gold N-heterocyclic carbene and an enzyme, demonstrating the compatibility of both catalyst types in aqueous medium under mild reaction conditions. The combination of [1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene][bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)-imide]gold(I) (IPrAuNTf2 ) and a selective alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH-A from Rhodococcus ruber, KRED-P1-A12 or KRED-P3-G09) led to the synthesis of a series of optically active (E)-4-arylpent-3-en-2-ols in good yields (65-86 %). The approach was also extended to various 2-hetarylpent-3-yn-2-ol, hexynol, and butynol derivatives. The use of alcohol dehydrogenases of opposite selectivity led to the production of both allyl alcohol enantiomers (93->99 % ee) for a broad panel of substrates.

Abstract
The allene functionality has participated in one of the most exciting voyages in organic chemistry, from chemical curiosities to a recurring building block in modern organic chemistry. In the last decades, a special kind of allene, namely, allenol, has emerged. Allenols, formed by an allene moiety and a hydroxyl functional group with diverse connectivity, have become common building blocks for the synthesis of a wide range of structures and frequent motif in naturally occurring systems. The synergistic effect of the allene and hydroxyl functional groups enables allenols to be considered as a unique and sole functionality exhibiting a special reactivity. This Review summarizes the most significant contributions to the chemistry of allenols that appeared during the past decade, with emphasis on their synthesis, reactivity, and occurrence in natural products.

Abstract
N-heterocyclic carbene gold(I) chloride and hydroxide complexes are regularly used as synthons to access various oxygen-, nitrogen- or carbon-bound gold complexes. They are also widely employed as efficient catalysts in addition reactions of hydroelements to unsaturated bonds and in several rearrangement and decarboxylation protocols. Here we describe the multigram synthesis of the most common mononuclear N-heterocyclic carbene gold(I) chloride complexes bearing the N,N'-bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene (IMes), N,N'-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene (IPr) and N,N'-bis(2,6-bis(diphenylmethyl)-4-methylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene (IPr*) ligands. Their synthesis is achieved through the straightforward and practical weak base approach in a total time of 4-5 h. This straightforward methodology is conducted under air and possesses considerable advantages over alternative routes, such as the use of a sustainable reaction solvent, minimal amounts of a mild base and commercially available or easily obtained starting materials. Additionally, we describe the synthesis of the mononuclear gold(I) hydroxide complex bearing the IPr ligand, using the state-of-the-art method requiring 24 h. Finally, the improved synthesis of the dinuclear gold(I) hydroxide complex [{Au(IPr)}2(μ-OH)][BF4] is described (~3 h). All procedures can be performed by researchers with standard training and lead to high yields (76-99%) of microanalytically pure bench-stable materials.

Abstract
Hydroformylation is an industrial process that allows for the production of aldehydes from alkenes using transition metals. The reaction can be carried out in water, and the catalyst may be recycled at the end of the reaction. The industrial application of rhodium-catalyzed aqueous hydroformylation has been demonstrated for smaller olefins (propene and butene). Unfortunately, larger olefins are weakly soluble in water, which results in very low catalytic activity. In an attempt to counteract this, we investigated the use of amphiphilic oleic succinyl-cyclodextrins (OS-CDs) synthesized from oleic acid derivatives and maleic anhydride. OS-CDs were found to increase the catalytic activity of rhodium during the hydroformylation of water-insoluble olefins, such as 1-decene and 1-hexadecene, by promoting mass transfer. Recyclability of the catalytic system was also evaluated in the presence of these cyclodextrins.
