Abstract
Psychological disorders and dramatic social problems are serious concerns regarding the abuse of amphetamine and its stimulant derivatives worldwide. Consumers of such drugs experience great euphoria along with serious health problems. Determination and quantification of amphetamine-type stimulants are indispensable skills for clinical and forensic laboratories. Analysis of low drug doses in bio-matrices necessitates applications of simple and also effective preparation steps. The preparation procedures not only eliminate adverse matrix effects, but also provide reasonable clean-up and pre-concentration benefits. The current review presents different methods used for sample preparation of amphetamines from urine as the most frequently used biological matrix. The advantages and limitations of various sample preparation methods were discussed focusing on the miniaturized methods.

Abstract
Polyaniline (PANI) is one of the best known and widely studied conducting polymers with multiple applications and unique physicochemical properties. Due to its porous structure and relatively high surface area as well as the affinity toward many analytes related to the ability to establish different types of interactions, PANI has a great potential as a sorbent in sample pretreatment before instrumental analyses. This study provides an overview of the applications of polyaniline and polyaniline composites as sorbents in sample preparation techniques based on solid-phase extraction, including conventional solid-phase extraction (SPE) and its modifications, solid-phase microextraction (SPME), dispersive solid-phase extraction (dSPE), magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) and stir-bar sorptive extraction (SBSE). The utility of PANI-based sorbents in chromatography was also summarized. It has been shown that polyaniline is willingly combined with other components and PANI-based materials may be formed in a variety of shapes. Polyaniline alone and PANI-based composites were successfully applied for sample preparation before determination of various analytes, both metal ions and organic compounds, in different matrices such as environmental samples, food, human plasma, urine, and blood.

Abstract
Background:
Nanomaterials have a significant role in improving the performance of electrochemical
sensing systems. Unique physical and chemical properties have extended the application of
nanomaterials in the fields of engineering, materials and biomedical science. In the last few years, these
materials with unique properties have been preferred in the design of experimental approaches for the
analysis of metal ions, proteins, biomarkers and pharmaceutical compounds. This paper reports preparation,
characterization of two different nanomaterials and their electrochemical application on doublestranded
calf-thymus DNA signals.
Methods:
The multi-walled carbon nanotubes were functionalized with amine groups (MWCNTs-NH2)
by employing the dielectric barrier discharge plasma treatment and then applied as MWCNTs-
NH2/glassy carbon electrode. Moreover, the synthesized mesoporous silica MCM-41 was chemically
amine functionalized and used as MCM-41-NH2/carbon paste electrode. For biosensor preparation, a
thin layer of calf thymus double stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (ct-dsDNA) was immobilized over the
modified electrodes.
Results:
The influence of dsDNA immobilized substrate was investigated based on the electrochemical
signals. While dsDNA/MCM-41-NH2/carbon paste biosensor showed a selective effect for guanine
signals, the dsDNA/MWCNTs-NH2/glassy carbon biosensor presented electrocatalytic effect for dsDNA
signals. Both dsDNA modified electrodes were employed to explore the interaction between the
dsDNA and the anticancer drug etoposide (ETP) in aqueous solution through voltammetric techniques.
By increasing the interaction time with ETP, the adenine peak current was quenched in the presence of
MWCNTs-NH2 based glassy carbon electrode. Whereas, in the presence of MCM-41-NH2 based CP
electrode, selective interaction with guanine occurred and oxidation peak intensity was diminished.
Conclusion:
The selective effect of MCM-41-NH2 can be used when the studied substances give a signal
with the same potential of adenine.

Abstract
Determination of molecules and biomolecules using nanoparticles is promising in the development of analytical techniques. Modified Eu-doped Y2O3 nanoparticles (Y2O3:Eu NPs) by captopril have been used as a probe for thiamine (vitamin B1) determination. According to the fluorescence enhancement of modified Eu-doped Y2O3 nanoparticles caused by thiamine, a simple and sensitive method were proposed for its detection. The increase in modified Y2O3:Eu NPs fluorescence signal as a function of thiamine concentration was found to be linear in the concentration range of 0-44 μM. The limit of detection (LOD) of thiamine by this method was 0.144 μM. All the measurements were performed in natural pH, at the room temperature under ambient conditions. Possible interaction mechanism was discussed.
