Abstract
The total synthesis of tricyclic marine alkaloid fasicularin (1b) has been accomplished from a novel sterically well-defined α-aminonitrile 7, featuring a novel double consecutive epimerization process and Ir-catalyzed reductive functionalization of a tertiary γ-lactam. The required configuration is obtained through the thermodynamically stereoselectively driven isomerization of a readily available 8a-cyanodecahydroquinoline framework. The strategy allows us to achieve the tricyclic core structures efficiently from affordable starting materials through simple operations.

Abstract
A recent computational analysis of the stabilizing intramolecular OH⋯O contact in 1,2-dialkyl-2,3-epoxycyclopentanol diastereomers has been extended to thiiriane, aziridine and phosphirane analogues. Density functional theory (DFT), second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) and CCSD(T) coupled-cluster computations with simple methyl and ethyl substituents indicate that electronic energies of the cis isomers are lowered by roughly 3 to 4 kcal mol−1 when the OH group of these cyclopentanol systems forms an intramolecular contact with the O, S, N or P atom on the adjacent carbon. The results also suggest that S and P can participate in these stabilizing intramolecular interactions as effectively as O and N in constrained molecular environments. The stabilizing intramolecular OH⋯O, OH⋯S, OH⋯N and OH⋯P contacts also increase the covalent OH bond length and significantly decrease the OH stretching vibrational frequency in every system with shifts typically on the order of −41 cm−1.

Abstract
The synthesis of a tricyclic marine alkaloid, fasicularin, was accomplished. Stereoselective synthesis of the aza-spirocyclic BC-ring precursor and ensuing construction of the A-ring with stereocontrolled installation of the C2 hexyl group feature prominently in the synthesis.

Abstract
The asymmetric addition of terminal ynamides to trifluoromethyl ketones with a readily available chiral zinc catalyst gives CF3 -substituted tertiary propargylic alcohols in up to 99 % yield and 96 % ee. The exclusion of organozinc additives and base as well as the general synthetic utility of the products are key features of this reaction. The value of the β-hydroxy-β-trifluoromethyl ynamides is exemplified by selective transformations to chiral Z- and E-enamides, an amide, and N,O-ketene acetals. The highly regioselective hydration, stereoselective reduction, and hydroacyloxylation reactions proceed with high yields and without erosion of the ee value of the parent β-hydroxy ynamides.

Abstract
The first example of a dyotropic-like rearrangement of 2-oxa allylic alcohols in the presence of catalytic amounts of Selectfluor and DABCO was reported, which provides a facile access to organoboronates. This reaction represents an unprecedented dyotropic rearrangement consisting of cleavage of two vicinal bonds (one C-C bond and one C=C bond).

Abstract
Lepadiformine A, B, and C were synthesized in an enantiomerically pure form using a reductive cyclization strategy. N-Boc α-amino nitriles were deprotonated and alkylated with enantiomerically pure dibromides to afford the first ring. The products were manipulated to introduce phosphate leaving groups, and subsequent reductive lithiation followed by intramolecular alkylation formed the second ring with high stereoselectivity. The third ring was formed by intramolecular displacement of a mesylate by the deprotected amine. Lepadiformine A and B contain a hydroxymethyl group adjacent to the amine. This appendage was introduced in a sequence using a Polonovski-Potier reaction as the key step. The synthetic strategy is stereoselective and convergent and demonstrates the utility of N-Boc α-amino nitriles as linchpins for alkaloid synthesis.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] A study on the conversion of lactam-derived vinyl triflates and phosphates into the corresponding vinyl boronates was carried out. While delta-valerolactam-derived vinyl triflates were successfully converted into 1,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine-2-boronic acid pinacol ester derivatives by Pd-catalyzed coupling reaction with both bis(pinacolato)diboron and pinacolborane, pyrrolidinone and epsilon-caprolactam derivatives either did not react or were readily reduced. The delta-valerolactam-derived vinyl boronates are thermally stable compounds that efficiently coupled, under Pd catalysis, with structurally diverse aryl and heteroaryl bromides and triflates, vinyl iodides and bromides, and aromatic acid chlorides, to give the corresponding 2-substituted piperidines in good to excellent yields. The number of electrophiles that can virtually be coupled with these new boronic esters makes them very useful reagents for the synthesis of N-heterocyclic compounds.
