Abstract
In this paper, we demonstrate a metal-free asymmetric hydrogenation of acyclic α,β-unsaturated ketones under the catalysis of a frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) comprising chiral oxazoline and achiral borane. A wide range of optically active α-substituted ketones were furnished in high yields with 26-85% ee's.

Abstract
Enantioselective reduction reactions are privileged transformations for the construction of trisubstituted stereogenic centers. While these include established synthetic strategies, such as asymmetric hydrogenation, methods based on the enantioselective addition of hydridic reagents to electrophilic prochiral substrates have also gained importance. In this context, the asymmetric conjugate reduction (ACR) of α,β-unsaturated compounds has become a convenient approach for the synthesis of chiral compounds with trisubstituted stereocenters in α-, β-, or γ-position to electron-withdrawing functional groups. Because such activating groups are diverse and amenable of further derivatizations, ACRs provide a general and powerful synthetic entry towards a variety of valuable chiral building blocks. This Review provides a comprehensive collection of catalytic ACR methods involving transition-metal, organic, and enzymatic catalysis since its first versions dating back to the late 1970s.

Abstract
Herein, a series of new 8-OIQ cobalt complexes were synthesized and used for cobalt-catalyzed chemo- and enantioselective 1,4-hydroboration of enones with HBpin to access chiral β,β-disubstituted ketones with good to excellent chemo- and enantioselectivties. This protocol is operationally simple and shows a broad substrate scope.

Abstract
A diastereo- and enantioselective rhodium(III)-catalyzed reductive cyclization of cyclohexadienone-tethered terminal alkenes and (E)-1,2-disubstituted alkenes (1,6-dienes) is reported, providing cis-bicyclic products bearing three contiguous stereocenters with good yields and high diastereo- and enantioselectivities. The kinetic resolution of the racemic precursor is also achieved with good efficiency. Moreover, a subgram-scale experiment, several transformations of the cyclization product, and one-pot preparation of bridged polycyclic frameworks are presented.

Abstract
The use of stoichiometric organoborane reductants in organic synthesis is well established. Here these reagents have been rendered catalytic through an isodesmic B-O/B-H transborylation applied in the borane-catalyzed, chemoselective alkene reduction and formal hydrofunctionalization of enones. The reaction was found to proceed by a 1,4-hydroboration of the enone and B-O/B-H transborylation with HBpin, enabling catalyst turnover. Single-turnover and isotopic labeling experiments supported the proposed mechanism of catalysis with 1,4-hydroboration and B-O/B-H transborylation as key steps.

Abstract
![]()
Asymmetric hydrogenation of conjugated
enones is one of the most
efficient and straightforward methods to prepare optically active
ketones. In this study, chiral bidentate Ir–N,P complexes were
utilized to access these scaffolds for ketones bearing the stereogenic
center at both the α- and β-positions. Excellent enantiomeric
excesses, of up to 99%, were obtained, accompanied with good to high
isolated yields. Challenging dialkyl substituted substrates, which
are difficult to hydrogenate with satisfactory chiral induction, were
hydrogenated in a highly enantioselective fashion.

Abstract
Catalytic reductive coupling of enone, acrylate, or vinyl heteroaromatic pronucleophiles with carbonyl or imine partners offers an alternative to base-mediated enolization in aldol- and Mannich-type reactions. In this review, direct catalytic reductive aldol and Mannich reactions are exhaustively catalogued on the basis of metal or organocatalyst. Stepwise processes involving enone conjugate reduction to form discrete enol or (metallo)enolate derivatives followed by introduction of carbonyl or imine electrophiles and aldol reactions initiated via enone conjugate addition are not covered.

Abstract
The chiral bisphosphine dioxide-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate reduction of acyclic β,β-disubstituted α,β-unsaturated ketones with trichlorosilane affords saturated ketones having a stereogenic carbon center at the carbonyl β-position with high enantioselectivities. Because the E/Z-isomerizations of enone substrates occur concomitantly, reduction products with the same absolute configurations are obtained from either (E)- or (Z)-enones. Conjugate reduction is accelerated in the presence of an electron-rich aryl group at the β-position of the enone owing to its carbocation-stabilizing ability. Computational studies were also conducted in order to elucidate the origin of the observed enantioselectivity. The regio- and enantioselective reductions of dienones were realized and applied to the syntheses of ar-turmerone, turmeronol A, mutisianthol, and jungianol, which are optically active sesquiterpenes.

Abstract
Enantioselective conjugate hydrosilylation of β,β-disubstituted α,β-unsaturated ketones was realized. In the presence of a chiral picolinamide-sulfonate Lewis base catalyst, the reactions provided various chiral ketones bearing a chiral center at the β-position in up to quantitative yields with moderate enantioselectivities.

Abstract
An enantioselective, copper(I)-catalyzed addition of terminal alkynes to isochroman ketals to set diaryl, tetrasubstituted stereocenters has been developed. The success of this reaction relies on identification of a Cu/PyBox catalyst capable of distinguishing the faces of the diaryl-substituted oxocarbenium ion. This challenging transformation enables efficient conversion of readily available, racemic ketals into high-value enantioenriched isochroman products with fully substituted stereogenic centers. High yields and enantiomeric excesses are observed for various isochroman ketals and an array of alkynes.

Abstract
Pin it down: A highly enantioselective diboration of terminal alkenes with chiral 1 and bis(pinacolato)diboron (B2 pin2 ) was realized. Subsequent oxidation of the diboron adducts with sodium peroxoborate readily gave the corresponding optically active 1,2-diols in high yields and high enantioselectivities.
