Abstract
A Cu(II)/BOX complex catalyses the enantioselective addition of difluorinated silyl enol ethers to acylpyridine N-oxides. The reaction provides difluorinated chiral tertiary alcohols of great interest in medicinal chemistry. These compounds are obtained in moderate to excellent yields and with high enantioselectivities. The stereochemical outcome of the reaction has been explained by DFT calculations.

Abstract
Reaction conditions have been developed for refractory heteroaryl-heteroaryl Suzuki-Miyaura cross-couplings. The reported method employs neopentyl heteroarylboronic esters as nucleophiles, heteroaryl bromides and chlorides as the electrophiles, and the soluble base potassium trimethylsilanolate (TMSOK) under anhydrous conditions. The addition of trimethyl borate enhances reaction rates by several mechanisms, including (1) solubilization of in situ-generated boronate complexes, (2) preventing catalyst poisoning by the heteroatomic units, and (3) buffering the inhibitory effect of excess TMSOK. The use of this method enables cross-coupling of diverse reaction partners including a broad range of π-rich and π-deficient heteroaryl boronic esters and heteroaryl bromides. Reactions proceed in good yields and short reaction times (3 h or less).

Abstract
Herein, a mild and operationally simple method for the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of boronic esters is described. Central to this advance is the use of the organic-soluble base, potassium trimethylsilanolate, which allows for a homogeneous, anhydrous cross-coupling. The coupling proceeds at a rapid rate, often furnishing products in quantitative yield in less than 5 min. By applying this method, a >10-fold decrease in reaction time was observed for three published reactions which required >48 h to reach satisfactory conversion.

Abstract
A bifunctional amine/squaramide catalyst promoted direct aldol addition of an hydantoin surrogate to pyridine 2-carbaldehyde N-oxides to afford adducts bearing two vicinal tertiary/quaternary carbons in high diastereo- and enantioselectivity (d.r. up to >20:1; ee up to 98 %) is reported. Acid hydrolysis of adducts followed by reduction of the N-oxide group yields enantiopure carbinol-tethered quaternary hydantoin-azaarene conjugates with densely functionalized skeletons. DFT studies of the potential energy surface (B3LYP/6-31+G(d)+CPCM (dichloromethane)) of the reaction correlate the activity of different catalysts and support an intramolecular hydrogen-bond-assisted activation of the squaramide moiety in the transition state of the catalytic reaction.

Abstract
2-Benzylpyridine N-oxides possessing less acidic α-protons were utilized as pronucleophiles for the first time in enantioselective addition reactions under Brønsted base catalysis.
2-Benzylpyridine N-oxides possessing less acidic α-protons were utilized as pronucleophiles for the first time in enantioselective addition reactions under Brønsted base catalysis. A chiral bis(guanidino)iminophosphorane was able to overcome the inherent issue of low acidity of the pronucleophiles, establishing the diastereo- and enantioselective direct Mannich-type reaction with N-Boc imines. The control experiments indicated that the N-oxide moiety of the substrates played a critical role in achieving the high stereoselectivity.

Abstract
A Mo/P catalytic system for an efficient gram-scale oxidation of a variety of nitrogen heterocycles to N-oxides with hydrogen peroxide as terminal oxidant has been investigated. Combined spectroscopic and crystallographic studies point to the tetranuclear Mo4P peroxo complex as one of the active catalytic species present in the solution. Based on this finding an optimized catalytic system has been developed. The utility and chemoselectivity of the catalytic system has been demonstrated by the synthesis of over 20 heterocyclic N-oxides.

Abstract
Optically active 4-alkyl-2-ethynyloxazoline derivatives (BnEOx) were polymerized with rhodium catalysts. The polymerization in toluene produced polymer with the highest absolute values of specific rotation ([α](D) = -77.3°). The yields, molecular weights, and specific rotations of poly(BnEOx)s were influenced by polymerization conditions. The copolymerization with phenylacetylene (PA) was effective to increase the molecular weight of the copolymer. It is interesting to note that the copolymers exhibited positive specific rotations ([α](D) = +4.7° to +62.5°) despite the fact that [α](D) s of BnEOx and the homopolymer are negative sign. The chiroptical properties were investigated by the chiral/achiral copolymerization of BnEOx with PA. The copolymerizations of BnEOx with PA gave copolymers containing higher order structure such as one-handed helical conformation. Furthermore, induced Cotton effects were observed in the π-π* transition region of conjugated main chain depending a complex of these polymers with zinc triflate salt in tetrahydrofuran solution, indicating the formation of chiral supramolecular aggregates.

Abstract
This note reports the facile synthesis of two ruthenium cyclopentadienyl half-sandwich complexes functionalized with coordinating alpha-picolinates. The synthetic approach involves the (eta(5)-chloromethylcyclopentadienyl)(eta(6)-benzene)ruthenium(II) cation as a useful common building block for cyclopentadienyl complexes bearing anchored ligands.

Abstract
Polymerization of N-phenylmaleimide derivatives bearing a chiral oxazoline substituent at ortho-position on the phenyl group (namely, N-[o-(4,5-dihydro-1,3-oxazol-2-yl)phenyl]maleimides, OPMI) was carried out with diethylzinc (Et2Zn) as an initiator. The resulting polymers exhibited a quite high specific rotation and a unique split-type circular dichroism. Furthermore, an induced Cotton effect was observed in the pi-pi* transition region of the chromophores upon complexation of these polymers with copper(II) salt in tetrahydrofuran solution, indicating the formation of chiral supramolecular aggregates. The induced supramolecular chirality was found to be dependent on the absolute configuration of monomer units, that is, the polymers with (R)-configurational oxazolinyl chromophores tended to form chiral aggregates with levorotatory handedness, while polymers obtained from the (S)-monomer offered dextrogyrate one upon the addition of Cu(II) salt.
