Abstract
A magnetic starch modified with 3,5-diaminobenzoic acid and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (Fe-starch@DABA-APTES) was synthesized and applied as adsorbent for the extraction of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs). Magnetic solid-phase extraction was developed using 75 mg of the sorbent and 15 mL of a sample solution. Extraction was conducted on a vortex mixer for 40 s. The adsorbent was collected using an external magnet before eluting the analytes using 0.5 mL of methanol. Quantification of the analytes was performed using gas chromatography with a micro-electron capture detector. The linearity was obtained for the studied OCPs in the range between 0.01 - 2.00 μg L-1. The detection and quantification limits were obtained in ranges of 0.5 - 4.0 and 1.5 - 15.0 ng L-1, respectively, with enrichment factors of up to 39. The precision in terms of the intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations (RSDs) were below 4.75, and 9.25%, respectively. The developed method has been applied in natural water and agricultural product samples. The recoveries ranged between 59.83 - 132.67% (RSDs < 10.73%).

J Chromatogr A 2021; 1643:462071. Abstract
Mixed iron hydroxides (MIHs) modified with different amino-based polymeric materials, including aminopropyltriethoxysilane, polydopamine, diaminobenzoic acid, polyaniline, and polyphenylenediamine, were comparatively investigated as sorbents for the extraction of phenol compounds. Polyphenylenediamine-modified mixed iron hydroxides (MIH@PPDA) showed high adsorption capability for most target analytes. Its ferromagnetic behavior, with a magnetization of 17.38 emu g-1, was sufficient for subsequent use in magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE). The functional groups, morphology, and magnetic properties of this magnetic nanomaterial were investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, X-ray diffraction, and CHN analysis. High-performance liquid chromatography with a photodiode array detector was used to quantify phenol compounds. The experimental parameters affecting the efficiency of the entire MSPE process were optimized. Good linearity in the range of 0.5-1000 µg L-1 was obtained (depended on the compound). The detection and quantitation limits varied from 0.01 to 0.3 µg L-1 and 0.03 to 0.9 µg L-1, respectively. The enrichment factors for all phenol compounds were in the range of 80-285. The precision in terms of intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations were below 5.8% and 6.2%, respectively. The developed MSPE method was applied to analyze phenol compounds in diverse samples, including soil, drinking water, and fruit. Relative recoveries of 76.7-130.1% were obtained. The MIH@PPDA magneto-polymeric sorbent exhibits good stability and is reliable for a variety of phenol compounds.

Abstract
Chiral tertiary α-hydroxyketones were synthesized with high enantiopurity by asymmetric decarboxylative chlorination and subsequent nucleophilic substitution. We recently reported the asymmetric decarboxylative chlorination of β-ketocarboxylic acids in the presence of a chiral primary amine catalyst to obtain α-chloroketones with high enantiopurity. Here, we found that nucleophilic substitution of the resulting α-chloroketones with tetrabutylammonium hydroxide yielded the corresponding α-hydroxyketones without loss of enantiopurity. The reaction proceeded smoothly even at a tertiary carbon. The proposed method would be useful for the preparation of chiral tertiary alcohols.

Abstract
We report herein the first examples of asymmetric oxidation of enol ether and ester substrates using iminium salt organocatalysis, affording moderate to excellent enantioselectivities of up to 98% ee for tetralone-derived substrates in the α-hydroxyketone products. A comprehensive density functional theory study was undertaken to interpret the competing diastereoisomeric transition states in this example in order to identify the origins of enantioselectivity. The calculations, performed at the B3LYP/6-31G(D) level of theory, gave good agreement with the experimental results, in terms of the magnitude of the effects under the specified reaction conditions, and in terms of the preferential formation of the ( R)-enantiomer. Just one of the 30 characterized transition states dominates the enantioselectivity, which is attributed to the adoption of an orientation relative to stereochemical features of the chiral controlling element that combines a CH-π interaction between a CH2 group in the substrate and one of the aromatic rings of the biaryl section of the chiral auxiliary with a good alignment of the acetoxy group with the other biaryl ring, and places the smallest substituent on the alkene (a hydrogen atom) in the most sterically hindered position.

Abstract
The controllable synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles is of fundamental and technological interest. In this article, highly transparent aqueous nanodispersion of ZrO2 with controllable crystalline phase, high concentration, and long-term stability was facilely prepared without any modification via the reaction of inexpensive inorganic zirconium salt and sodium hydroxide in water under an acid surrounding, combined with hydrothermal treatment. The as-prepared transparent nanodispersion had an average particle size of 7 nm, a high stability of 18 months, and a high solid content of 35 wt %. ZrO2 nanocrystals could be readily dispersed in many solvents with high polarity including ethanol, dimethyl sulfoxide, acetic acid, ethylene glycol, and N, N-dimethylformamide, forming stable transparent nanodispersions. Furthermore, highly transparent polyvinyl alcohol/ZrO2 nanocomposite films with high refractive index were successfully prepared with a simple solution mixing route. The refractive index could be tuned from 1.528 to 1.754 (@ 589 nm) by changing the mass fraction (0-80 wt %) of ZrO2 in transparent nanocomposite films.

Abstract
A highly sensitive chemiluminescence (CL) method for detection of phytohormone indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) was developed by using G-rich DNA labeled gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as CL probe coupling the DNA signal amplification technology. The IAA antibody was immobilized on carboxyl terminated magnetic beads (MBs). In the presence of IAA, antibody labeled AuNPs were captured by antibody functionalized MBs. The DNA on AuNPs is released by a ligand exchange process induced by the addition of DTT. The released DNA is then acted as the linker and hybridized with the capture DNA on MBs and probe DNA on AuNPs CL probe. The CL signal is obtained via the instantaneous derivatization reaction between a specific CL reagent, 3,4,5-trimethoxyl-phenylglyoxal (TMPG), and the G-rich DNA on AuNPs CL probe. IAA can be detected in the concentration range from 0.02 ng/mL to 30 ng/mL, and the limit of detection is 0.01 ng/mL.

Abstract
A novel hybrid material is reported as support for a recyclable palladium catalyst via surface immobilization of a ligand onto Co-based magnetic nanoparticles (NPs). A standard "click" reaction is utilized to covalently attach a norbornene tag (Nb-tag) to the surface of the carbon coated cobalt NPs. The hybrid magnetic nanoparticles are produced by initiating polymerization of a mixture containing both Nb-tagged ligand (Nb-tagged PPh (3)) and Nb-tagged carbon coated cobalt NPs. In turn, the norbornene units are suitably functionalized to serve as ligands for metal catalysts. A composite material is thus obtained which furnishes a loading that is one order of magnitude higher than the value obtained previously for the synthesis of functionalized Co/C-nanopowders. This allows for its application as a hybrid support with high local catalyst concentrations, as demonstrated for the immobilization of a highly active and recyclable palladium complex for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions. Due to the explicit magnetic moment of the cobalt- NPs, the overall magnetization of this organic/inorganic framework is significantly higher than of polymer coated iron oxide nanoparticles with comparable metal content, hence, its rapid separation from the reaction mixture and recycling via an external magnetic field is not hampered by the functionalized polymer shell.

Abstract
Functional nanoscale coordination polymers are receiving growing scientific interest because of their potential applications in many domains. In this paper, we demonstrated that a nanofibrous networked metal-organic gel (G1-MNPs) was formed by simply mixing 4,4',4''-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyl)tris(N-(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)benzamide) (L) and Pd(COD)(NO(3))(2) in CHCl(3)-MeOH with a Pd/L molar ratio of 1:1 in the presence of magnetite nanoparticle (MNPs). The self-assembly behavior of nanofibers was not significantly effected by the introduction of magnetite nanoparticles. The xerogel of G1-MNPs was superparamagnetic and showed catalytic activity in Suzuki-Miyaura C-C coupling reactions. The Pd(II) xerogel could be magnetically isolated and recycled with a permanent magnet. It represents a novel strategy to introduce nanoparticles into functional coordination polymers for multifunctional materials.
