Abstract
In the current study, glycerol was successfully employed as a nonvolatile, non-toxic, non-flammable, biodegradable, very cheap, easily accessible, and efficient reaction medium for the microwave-enhanced diastereoselective synthesis of 2-(N-carbamoylacetamide)-substituted 2,3-dihydrothiophenes via a catalyst-free one-pot four-component reaction. A versatile range of starting materials were used, and diverse products were obtained in good to excellent yields and very short reaction times. Moreover, the reaction medium was recovered and reused several times without any loss of the efficiency.

Abstract
γ-Valerolactone (GVL) was proposed as a renewable, nontoxic reaction medium with negligible vapor pressure for homogeneous Pd-catalyzed aminocarbonylation reactions. Iodobenzene as a model substrate and its 4-substituted derivatives were converted to the corresponding 2-ketocarboxamides with high conversions and chemoselectivities in γ-valerolactone. The effect of carbon monoxide pressure and reaction temperature on the conversion and selectivities were studied in the range 1-50 bar and 25-100 °C, respectively. The highest conversion and selectivity was achieved at 25 bar and 50 °C for iodobenzene in GVL for 24 h.

Abstract
The domino aldol/hetero-Diels-Alder synthesis of some new tricyclic pyrano[3,4-c]chromene derivatives has been achieved successfully after assembling a variety of acyclic or cyclic monoketones with prenyl ether-tethered aldehydes in the presence of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene in glycerol at 120 °C. The hitherto unreported stereochemical outcome of this synthetic sequence was studied and established on the basis of single-crystal X-ray diffraction data and 2D NMR NOESY spectroscopy along with the isolation and characterization of the intermediate Aldol condensation product.
