Abstract
While the Pd(0)-catalyzed cyclization of alkyne-tethered unsaturated carbonyl substrates has been reported, the mechanism has not been well elucidated, and the potential asymmetric version remains to be developed. Here, we disclose that a chiral Pd(0) complex can efficiently promote the desymmetrizative cyclization of alkyne-tethered cyclohexadienones in CH3OH, and the resultant Pd(II) intermediates further undergo an array of tandem coupling reactions, including Suzuki, Sonogashira, and even chemoselective reduction by CH3OH in the absence of additional coupling partners. As a result, a broad spectrum of hydrobenzofuran derivatives, having a tetra- or trisubstituted exo-alkene motif, is constructed with moderate to outstanding enantioselectivity in an exclusive cis-difunctionalization pattern. In addition, this enantioselective protocol can be well expanded to linear alkyne-tethered unsaturated carbonyls, and a new desymmetrizative and asymmetric cyclization/coupling cascade of bis-alkyne-tethered enones is further realized efficiently, furnishing diversely structured frameworks with high stereoselectivity. Moreover, kinetic transformation for various racemic alkyne-tethered enones can be accomplished under similar catalytic conditions, and unusual kinetic reactions by chemoselectively undertaking Suzuki or Sonogashira coupling, or reduction by CH3OH, occur sequentially, finally yielding two types of chiral products, both with high enantioselectivity via either ligand- or substrate-based control. The experimental results demonstrate that the current Pd(0)-based strategy is superior to the classical Pd(II)-catalyzed carbopalladation/cyclization process of the identical substrates with regard to enantioselectivity and synthetic versatility. Moreover, density functional theory calculations are conducted to rationalize the Pd(0)-catalyzed oxidative cyclometalation pathway in the key cyclization step, which leads to the observed cis-difunctionalized products exclusively.

Abstract
Gold(I) catalysis has been recognized as a valuable tool for the unique transformation of multiple carbon-carbon bonds. Enantioselective π-catalysis based on gold(I) complexes is, however, still underdeveloped due to lack of privileged ligands. Herein, we present an accessible method to a new family of stable yet catalytically active chiral NHC-Au(I)-Cl complexes. The key to preserving a simultaneous fine balance between reactivity and stability in this newly developed family appears to be sterically hindered, but conformationally flexible NHC ligands. These could be easily accessed on a multigram scale by merging sterically hindered anilines with commercially available amino alcohols and amines via a four-steps synthetic sequence without the need for chromatographic purification. Further investigations of the catalytic activity of NHC-Au-Cl complexes identified the OH functionality incorporated into the NHC core as crucial for the level of enantioselectivity as well as the TsO- anion responsible for the activation of NHC-Au(I)-Cl. Finally, NMR studies and X-ray investigations revealed for the first time that the widely accepted ion metathesis (NHC-Au-Cl to NHC-Au-OSO2 R) responsible for the activation of NHC-Au-Cl complexes does not take place (or it is very slow) in commonly used MeNO2 in contrast to DCM.

Abstract
Using D2O as a deuterium source, a method for the deuteration of intra- and extra-cyclic methylene has been developed for cyclic ethers with moderate yield and excellent deuterium incorporation. This transformation features superb functional group tolerance in a wide range of alkynols. Notably, the critical factor to achieve high deuterium incorporation is determined by the hydrogen isotope exchange reaction of an unstable oxonium ion. This novel methodology provides an efficient and concise synthetic route to a number of valuable deuterated cyclic ethers that are often difficult to prepare with other methods.

Abstract
Intramolecular alkyne hydroamidation represents a straightforward approach for the access to synthetically valuable cyclic enamides. Despite some advances made in this realm, the ability to attain a precise regiocontrol still remains challenging, especially for endo cyclization that leads to six-membered and larger azacyclic rings. Herein, we report a NiH-catalyzed intramolecular hydroamidation of alkynyl dioxazolones that allows for an excellent endo selectivity, thus affording a range of six- to eight-membered endocyclic enamides with a broad scope. Mechanistic investigations revealed that Ni(I) catalysis is operative in the current system, proceeding via regioselective syn-hydronickelation, alkenylnickel E/Z isomerization, and Ni-centered inner-sphere nitrenoid transfer. In particular, the key alkenylnickel isomerization step, which previously lacked mechanistic understandings, was found to take place through the η2-vinyl transition state. The synthetic value of this protocol was demonstrated by diastereoselective modifications of the obtained endocyclic enamides to highly functionalized δ-lactam scaffolds.

Abstract
Since the dawn of millennium, catalytic gold chemistry is at the forefront to set off diverse organic reactions via unique activation of π-bonded molecules. Within this purview, cycloisomerization of heteroatom nucleophiles linked to a π-system is one of the well recognized chemistry for the construction of numerous heterocyclic cores. Though the rudimentary aspects of this transformation are reviewed by several groups in different timeline, a holistic view on regiochemistry of such reactions went largely overlooked. Hence, this account emphasizes the gold catalyzed regioselective cycloisomerization of structurally distinctive π-connected hetero-nucleophiles leading to different heterocycles documented in the last two decades. From an application perspective, this account also highlights those methodologies which find a role in the total synthesis of natural products. Wherever appropriate, mechanistic details and contributing factors for selectivity are also discussed.

Abstract
N-Heterocyclic carbenes have found many applications in modern metal catalysis, due to the formation of stable metal complexes, and organocatalysis. Among a myriad of N-heterocyclic carbene metal complexes, gold complexes have gained a lot of attention due to their unique propensity for the activation of carbon-carbon multiple bonds, allowing many useful transformations of alkynes, allenes, and alkenes, inaccessible by other metal complexes. The present review summarizes synthetic efforts towards the preparation of chiral N-heterocyclic gold(I) complexes exhibiting C2 and C1 symmetry, as well as their applications in enantioselective catalysis. Finally, the emerging area of rare gold(III) complexes and their preliminary usage in asymmetric catalysis is also presented.

Abstract
In this critical review the reactivity patterns observed with different types of diyne substrates in gold catalysis are discussed. Apart from the many examples from homogeneous catalysis, the few examples from heterogeneous gold catalysis are also included. With a proper arrangement of the two alkynes unique and exciting reactivity patterns like 1,3-carbonyl transpositions, carbene transfer reactions, cascade annulations, macrocyclisations or the formation of gold vinylidene intermediates are observed. These reactions are of interest for organic synthesis, for pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry and for material science.

Abstract
The asymmetric desymmetrization of meso-2-alkynylbenzenediols through the use of a combination of axially chiral diphosphine(AuCl)2 precatalysts and silver salt co-catalysts gave optically active isochromene compounds with high enantioselectivities in good yields. The corresponding DL-diol isomers underwent efficient kinetic resolution to give the cyclized isochromenes and recovered diols with high enantioselectivities under similar conditions. The high reactivity and selectivity in the desymmetrization of the meso-diols is independent of the combination of axially chiral diphosphine(AuCl)2 precatalyst and silver salt co-catalyst, whereas the corresponding tricarbonylchromium complexes of alkynylbenzenediols were affected by the combination of the diphosphine(AuCl)2 and silver salt. The reactivity was largely dependent on the nature of the gold(I) species.
