Abstract
Three sets of related lanthanide-mercury(II) cyanide coordination polymers were synthesized by the reaction of LnCl3·xH2O (Ln = Ce, Nd, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Tm, Yb, and Lu) with Hg(CN)2 and structurally characterized. [Ce(OH2)5][Hg(CN)2Cl]3·2H2O is a 3-D material with sheet-based architecture; its thermal expansion behavior shows uniaxial negative thermal expansion (-18.3(8), 39(2), and 68.3(16) ppm K-1 along the a, b, and c axes, respectively). This anisotropic thermal behavior is postulated to be driven elastically by weak Hg···Cl interactions: large area expansion of the sheets causes negative thermal expansion in the perpendicular direction. Using lanthanides heavier than Ce yielded 2-D sheet-based compounds with the formula [Ln(OH2)x]2[Hg(CN)2]5Cl6·2H2O (Ln = Nd and Eu, x = 7; Ln = Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Tm, Yb, and Lu, x = 6). Although there was also evidence for elastic behavior within these materials, both showed uniaxial zero thermal expansion (Ln = Nd: 27.9(17), 22.4(10), and 0.6(12) ppm K-1 along the I, II, and III principal axes, respectively; Ln = Tb: 39.6(12), 1.1(17), and 36.1(7) ppm K-1 along the a, b, and c axes, respectively). Despite their similar structural architecture, this zero thermal expansion was found to occur in different directions─within the plane of the 2-D sheets for [Nd(OH2)7]2[Hg(CN)2]5Cl6·2H2O but in the direction perpendicular to the 2-D sheets for [Tb(OH2)6]2[Hg(CN)2]5Cl6·2H2O. Overall, this system of compounds reveals the delicate relationship between coordination polymer structure and thermal expansion.

Abstract
Despite the recurrence of aurophilic interactions in the solid-state structures of gold(I) compounds, its rational control, modulation, and application in the generation of functional supramolecular structures is an area that requires further development. The ligand effects over the aurophilic-based supramolecular structures need to be better understood. This paper presents the supramolecular structural diversity of a series of new 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphane)propane (dppp) gold(I) fluorinated thiolates with the general formula [Au2(SRF)2(μ-dppp)] (SRF = SC6F5 (1); SC6HF4-4 (2); SC6H3(CF3)2-3,5 (3); SC6H4CF3-2 (4); SC6H4CF3-4 (5); SC6H3F2-3,4 (6); SC6H3F2-3,5 (7); SC6H4F-2 (8); SC6H4F-3 (9); SC6H4F-4 (10)). These compounds were synthesized and characterized, and six of their solid-state crystalline structures were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the crystalline arrangement, they form aurophilic-bridged polymers. In these systems, the changes in the fluorination patterns of the thiolate ligands tune the aurophilic-induced self-assembly of the compounds causing tacticity and chiral differentiation of the monomers. This is an example of the use of ligand effects on the tune of the supramolecular association of gold complexes.

Abstract
A synthetic strategy featuring dicyanometalates [M(CN)2]- (M = Ag, Au) as N-coordinating ditopic linkers connecting partially blocked FeII centers has been employed to produce heterometallic hexanuclear complexes, which exhibit spin-crossover (SCO) behavior at the FeII sites. The reaction between tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (tpma)-capped FeII ions and [Ag(CN)2]- proceeded with partial decomposition of the dicyanoargentate and led to the formation of {[Fe(tpma)]4(μ-CN)2[μ-Ag(CN)2]2}(ClO4)4·3H2O (1), in which both [Ag(CN)2]- and CN- act as bridging ligands, and the opposite [Ag(CN)2]- bridges are engaged in a pronounced argentophilic d10-d10 interaction. In an analogous synthesis, the more stable [Au(CN)2]- species remained intact and furnished the complex {[Fe(tpma)]2[μ-Au2(CN)4]2} (2), which features two FeII centers bridged by two [Au2(CN)4]2- dimers. The use of S,S'-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-1,2-thioethane (bpte) as a mixed-donor, N2S2-coordinating capping ligand yielded {[Fe(bpte)]2[μ-Au2(CN)4]2} (3), with a structure analogous to that of 2. Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed that complexes 1-3 exhibit an onset of SCO above 350 K. Measurements above 400 K further confirmed the occurrence of a gradual spin-state conversion for complex 2.

Abstract
Luminescent thermometers have attracted much attention, because of their fast response, high sensitivity, and noninvasive operation, relative to other traditional thermometers. The extensive studies on the temperature-dependent luminescent properties of Cu(I) complexes make this low-cost metal source a promising candidate as a component of thermometers. Herein, we prepared three luminescent phosphinine Cu(I) complexes whose emission lifetimes are precisely dependent on the temperature variations. For practical utilization, sensor films have been fabricated by doping these Cu(I) complexes into the matrices of polyacrylamide. These films not only exhibit excellent linear correlations between the temperature and emission lifetime over the wide range of 77-337 K, but also show high sensitivity (with the best one to -6.99 μs K-1). These are essential factors for the application in luminescent molecular thermometers. Moreover, the emission mechanism for these Cu(I) complexes are rationalized by the combination of experimental and theoretical results.

Abstract
The reaction between a preassembled CuI bimetallic molecular clip with a short intermetallic distance and a series of fully aliphatic cyano-capped ditopic linkers with increasing lengths was investigated. It is shown that, depending on the length of the ditopic linkers, the rational design of unprecedented supramolecular compact metallacycles containing fully aliphatic walls is possible. The specific preorganized molecular arrangement of the molecular clip used favors stabilizing interlinker London dispersion interactions, which allow, as the length of the linkers increases, the selective formation of discrete compact metallacycles at the expense of 1D coordination polymers. The generalizability of this approach was demonstrated by the reaction of fully aliphatic cyano-capped linkers with two other types of preassembled CuI bimetallic molecular clips that also had short intermetallic distances.

Abstract
One important concept associated with supramolecular chemistry is supramolecular self-assembly, which deals with the way discrete individual components interact via intermolecular interactions in order to build, upon their spontaneous association, high order functional assemblies. The accumulation of these very simple and localized noncovalent interactions (such as H-bonding, dipole-dipole, hydrophobic/hydrophilic, van der Waals, π-π, π-CH, etc.) is ubiquitous in the complexity of natural systems (such as DNA, proteins, membranes, micelles, etc.). It can also be transposed to the directed synthesis of intricate artificial scaffolds, which have anticipated geometries and properties. Among the synthetic strategies based on this concept, coordination-driven supramolecular chemistry uses the robust, reversible, and directional metal-to-ligand coordinative bond to build discrete metallo-supramolecular architectures. Within the last two decades, coordination-driven supramolecular chemistry has proved to be one of the most powerful contemporary synthetic approaches and has provided a significant number of increasingly complex supramolecular assemblies, which have predetermined sizes and geometries. While much focus has been devoted to architectures bearing internal cavities for host-guest chemistry or to generate specific reactivity, particular attention can also be paid to compact supramolecular assemblies given that their specific structures are characterized by peculiar synthetic guiding rules as well as by alternative long-range self-assembling properties. This Account describes how a preassembled CuI bimetallic clip bearing short intermetallic distances can be used as a U-shaped molecular clip to give general and versatile access to a large variety of original compact supramolecular metallacycles. When this CuI precursor is reacted with various cyano-capped ditopic linkers that have increasing lengths and complexities, specific effects guiding the selective and straightforward syntheses of such compact supramolecular objects are highlighted. Whereas a subtle compromise between the length of the ditopic linkers and the steric bulk of the molecular clip appears to be a purely stereogeometric preliminary parameter to master, lateral interlinker interactions (π-π stacking interactions or aurophilic interactions depending on the nature of the internal cores of the linkers) can circumvent these constraints regardless of the length of the linkers and allow the selective formation of new compact supramolecular structures. Generally, such derivatives presented a strong tendency to self-assemble in the solid state due to inter-supramolecule interactions. This approach thus opens a new door toward molecular materials having an attractive solid state structure for potential applications related to charge carrier mobility and luminescence properties. These compact supramolecular assemblies can therefore be considered as original secondary binding units directing the predictive preparation of such extended networks. The on-purpose design of original building blocks bearing specific cores allowed the formation of new compact supramolecular metallacycles such as "U-shaped" π-stacked assemblies or "pseudodouble paracyclophanes". Similarly, the control of the secondary structure of one-dimensional coordination polymers alternating π-stacked compact supramolecular metallacycles was also conducted. The results that are discussed in this Account illustrate how the rational design of both preassembled polymetallic precursors bearing short intermetallic distances and ditopic linkers able to induce cumulative lateral weak interactions can implement the general synthetic guiding rules of coordination driven supramolecular chemistry. This opens perspectives to use such compact supramolecular assemblies as secondary building blocks for the design of long-range organized functional molecular materials that have predictable architectures and targeted properties.

Abstract
In this study we employed self-deposition and competitive or synergistic interactions between metal ions and gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) to develop OR, AND, INHIBIT, and XOR logic gates through regulation of the enzyme-like activity of Au NPs. In the presence of various metal ions (Ag(+), Bi(3+), Pb(2+), Pt(4+), and Hg(2+)), we found that Au NPs (13 nm) exhibited peroxidase-, oxidase-, or catalase-like activity. After Ag(+), Bi(3+), or Pb(2+) ions had been deposited on the Au NPs, the particles displayed strong peroxidase-like activity; on the other hand, they exhibited strong oxidase- and catalase-like activities after reactions with Ag(+)/Hg(2+) and Hg(2+)/Bi(3+) ions, respectively. The catalytic activities of these Au NPs arose mainly from the various oxidation states of the surface metal atoms/ions. Taking advantage of this behavior, we constructed multiplex logic operations-OR, AND, INHIBIT, and XOR logic gates-through regulation of the enzyme-like activity after the introduction of metal ions into the Au NP solution. When we deposited Hg(2+) and/or Bi(3+) ions onto the Au NPs, the catalase-like activities of the Au NPs were strongly enhanced (>100-fold). Therefore, we could construct an OR logic gate by using Hg(2+)/Bi(3+) as inputs and the catalase-like activity of the Au NPs as the output. Likewise, we constructed an AND logic gate by using Pt(4+) and Hg(2+) as inputs and the oxidase-like activity of the Au NPs as the output; the co-deposition of Pt and Hg atoms/ions on the Au NPs was responsible for this oxidase-like activity. Competition between Pb(2+) and Hg(2+) ions for the Au NPs allowed us to develop an INHIBIT logic gate-using Pb(2+) and Hg(2+) as inputs and the peroxidase-like activity of the Au NPs as the output. Finally, regulation of the peroxidase-like activity of the Au NPs through the two inputs Ag(+) and Bi(3+) enabled us to construct an XOR logic gate.
