Abstract
A metal-free, mild, and efficient method for the synthesis of amides has been developed from the amination of aldehydes with hydroxylamines promoted by TBAF·3H2O in the presence of KOH. Control experiments showed that the nitrone was the intermediate of this amination. By this method, a series of amides, biologically active compounds bebenil and a COX inhibitor were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
A magnetic CdS quantum dot (Fe3 O4 /polydopamine (PDA)/CdS) was synthesized through a facile and convenient method from inexpensive starting materials. Characterization of the prepared catalyst was performed by means of FTIR spectroscopy, XRD, SEM, TEM, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and vibrating-sample magnetometer techniques. Fe3 O4 /PDA/CdS was found to be a highly active photocatalyst for the amidation of aromatic aldehydes by using air as a clean oxidant under mild conditions. The photocatalyst can be recovered by magnetic separation and successfully reused for five cycles without considerable loss of its catalytic activity.

Abstract
A new method for the direct synthesis of primary and secondary amides from carboxylic acids is described using Mg(NO3)2·6H2O or imidazole as a low-cost and readily available catalyst, and urea as a stable, and easy to manipulate nitrogen source. This methodology is particularly useful for the direct synthesis of primary and methyl amides avoiding the use of ammonia and methylamine gas which can be tedious to manipulate. Furthermore, the transformation does not require the employment of coupling or activating agents which are commonly required.

Abstract
Direct and selective oxygenation of C-H bonds to C-O bonds is regarded as an effective tool to generate high-value products. However, these reactions are still subject to challenges such as harsh reaction conditions, use of expensive transition metal catalysts, and involvement of stoichiometric oxidants. To avoid these, molecular oxygen would be ideal as oxidant, as the byproduct is water or hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, achieving these reactions by using metal-free catalysts would contribute to green and sustainable chemical synthesis. This Minireview summarizes recent reports on C-H oxygenation reactions with metal-free catalysts and molecular oxygen under visible-light conditions.

Abstract
An efficient synthesis of a variety of pyridyl benzamides from 2-aminopyridines and nitroolefins is described. This rare-earth-metal-catalyzed reaction provides the corresponding products with broad substrate scope in moderate to excellent yields, in the absence of additives and external oxidants. Water is used as the source of the carbonyl oxygen atom in pyridyl benzamides. Furthermore, 2-substituted oxazolo[4,5-b]pyridines are formed in good yields under the standard conditions when 2-aminopyridin-3-ols are used as the substrates.

Abstract
Unprecedented metallapyrazoles [IrH2{Ph2P(o-C6H4)CNNHC(o-C6H4)PPh2}] (3) and [IrHCl{Ph2P(o-C6H4)CNNHC(o-C6H4)PPh2}] (4) were obtained by the reaction of the irida-β-ketoimine [IrHCl{(PPh2(o-C6H4CO))(PPh2(o-C6H4CNNH2))H}] (2) in MeOH heated at reflux in the presence and absence of KOH, respectively. In solution, iridapyrazole 3 undergoes a dynamic process due to prototropic tautomerism with an experimental barrier for the exchange of ΔGcoal⧧ = 53.7 kJ mol-1. DFT calculations agreed with an intrapyrazole proton transfer process assisted by two water molecules (ΔG = 63.1 kJ mol-1). An X-ray diffraction study on 4 indicated electron delocalization in the iridapyrazole ring. The reaction of the irida-β-diketone [IrHCl{(PPh2(o-C6H4CO))2H}] (1) with H2NNRR' in aprotic solvents gave irida-β-ketoimines [IrHCl{(PPh2(o-C6H4CO))(PPh2(o-C6H4CNNRR'))H}] (R = R' = Me (5); R = H, R' = Ph (8)), which can undergo N-N bond cleavage to afford the acyl-amide complex [IrHCl(PPh2(o-C6H4CO))(PPh2(o-C6H4C(O)N(CH3)2))-κP,κO] (6) or [IrHCl(PPh2(o-C6H4CO))(PPh2(o-C6H4CN)-κP)(NH2NHPh-κNH2)] (9) containing o-(diphenylphosphine)benzonitrile and phenylhydrazine, respectively. From a CH2Cl2/CH3OH solution of 9 kept at -18 °C, single crystals of [IrHCl(PPh2(o-C6H4CO))(PPh2(o-C6H4CN)-κP))(HN═NPh-κNH)] (10) containing o-(diphenylphosphine)benzonitrile and phenyldiazene were formed, as shown by X-ray diffraction. The reaction of 1 with methylhydrazine in methanol gave the hydrazine complex [IrCl(PPh2(o-C6H4CO))2(NH2NH(CH3)-κNH2)] (7). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis was performed on 6 and 7.

Abstract
The present review offers an overview of nonclassical (e.g., with no pre- or in situ activation of a carboxylic acid partner) approaches for the construction of amide bonds. The review aims to comprehensively discuss relevant work, which was mainly done in the field in the last 20 years. Organization of the data follows a subdivision according to substrate classes: catalytic direct formation of amides from carboxylic and amines ( section 2 ); the use of carboxylic acid surrogates ( section 3 ); and the use of amine surrogates ( section 4 ). The ligation strategies (NCL, Staudinger, KAHA, KATs, etc.) that could involve both carboxylic acid and amine surrogates are treated separately in section 5 .

Abstract
A transition-metal-free decarboxylation coupling process for the preparation of α-amino acid esters, which succeeded in merging hydrolysis/decarboxylation/nucleophilic substitution, is well described. This strategy uses commercially available inexpensive starting materials, catalysts and oxidants and has a wide substrate scope and operational simplicity.

Abstract
The rhodium-catalyzed oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols and aldehydes is reported.
The rhodium-catalyzed oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols and aldehydes is reported. In situ generated [(BINAP)Rh]BF4 catalyzes the one-pot isomerization/oxidative amidation of allylic alcohols or direct amidation of aldehydes using acetone or styrene as the hydrogen acceptor. The conditions are general, affording good to excellent yields with a wide array of amine and aniline nucleophiles, and chemoselective, other alcohols do not participate in the oxidation reaction. Utilization of biphasic conditions is critical, as they promote an equilibrium between the imine/enamine byproducts and the hemiaminal, which can undergo oxidation to the amide.

Abstract
N-Dealkylation methods are well described for organic chemistry and the reaction is known in nature and drug metabolism; however, to our knowledge, enantioselective N-dealkylation has not been yet reported. In this study, exclusively the (S)-enantiomers of racemic N-ethyl tertiary amines (1-benzyl-N-ethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines) were dealkylated to give the corresponding secondary (S)-amines in an enantioselective fashion at the expense of molecular oxygen. The reaction is catalyzed by the berberine bridge enzyme, which is known for CC bond formation. The dealkylation was demonstrated on a 100 mg scale and gave optically pure dealkylated products (ee>99 %).

Abstract
De novo syntheses of amides often generate stoichiometric amounts of waste. Thus, recent progress in the field has focused on precious metal catalyzed, oxidative protocols to generate such functionalities. However, simple tertiary alkyl amines cannot be used as starting materials in these protocols. The research described herein enables the oxidative synthesis of amides from simple, noncyclic tertiary alkyl amines under synthetically useful, mild conditions through a biologically inspired approach: Fe-catalyzed Cα-H functionalization. Mechanistic investigations provide insight into reaction intermediates and allow the development of a mild Cα-H cyanation method using the same catalyst system. The protocol was further applied to oxidize the drug Lidocaine, demonstrating the potential utility of the developed chemistry for metabolite synthesis.

Abstract
Magnetic Fe(OH)3@Fe3O4 nanoparticles were successfully prepared and characterized. This magnetic nanocomposite was employed as an efficient, reusable, and environmentally benign heterogeneous catalyst for the direct amidation of alcohols with amine hydrochloride salts. Several derivatives of primary, secondary and tertiary amides were synthesized in moderate to good yields in the presence of this catalytic system. The catalyst was successfully recycled and reused up to six times without significant loss of its catalytic activity.
