Abstract
The synthesis of a new molecule, SFIC-Cl, is reported, which features enhanced π-electron delocalization by spiroconjugation and narrowed bandgap by chlorination. SFIC-Cl is integrated into a single-crystal transistor (OFET) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED). The material demonstrates remarkable transport abilities across various solution-processed OFETs and retains efficient radiance in a near-infrared OLED emitting light at 700 nm. Furthermore, the intermolecular multi-dimensional connection of SFIC-Cl enables the fabrication of a single-component large-area (2 × 2 cm2 ) near-infrared OLED by spin-coating. The SFIC-Cl-acceptor-based solar cell shows excellent power conversion efficiency of 10.16% resulting from the broadened and strong absorption and well-matched energy levels. The study demonstrates that chlorinated spiroconjugated fused systems offer a novel direction toward the development of high-performance organic semiconductor materials for hybrid organic electronic devices.

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis of two new series of angular (all-syn) ladder-type meta-[n]phenylenes (LMP, n = 3-8). One series contains keto groups at the termini bridges, denoted angular keto (AKn), the second contains alkyl groups at all bridge sp3 carbons, denoted angular alkyl (AAn). Their electronic and structural properties were delineated by a combination of electrochemistry and spectroscopic (UV-Vis and emission) methods and further supported by DFT calculations. Interestingly, experimental and DFT data show that changing the bridging group at the termini from alkyl (AAn) to keto (AKn) gives an increase in the first reduction potentials and LUMO energies, as the π-system is extended. Also, the charge (de)localization behavior is different for these two species; while the AAn compounds stablize charge with Robin-Day class III, the AKn compounds show a clear switch from class III to class II. In comparison with the linear analogues (LKn and LAn), DFT results reveal a shape independency of the charge (de)localization mechanism in acceptor-π-acceptor series (AKn/LKn).

Abstract
Indeno[1,2-b]fluorenes (IFs), while containing 4n π-electrons, are best described as two aromatic benzene rings fused to a weakly paratropic s-indacene core. In this study, we find that replacement of the outer benzene rings of an IF with benzothiophenes allows the antiaromaticity of the central s-indacene to strongly reassert itself. Herein we report a combined synthetic, computational, structural, and materials study of anti- and syn-indacenodibenzothiophenes (IDBTs). We have developed an efficient and scalable synthesis for preparation of a series of aryl- and ethynyl-substituted IDBTs. NICS-XY scans and ACID calculations reveal an increasingly antiaromatic core from [1,2-b]IF to anti-IDBT, with syn-IDBT being nearly as antiaromatic as the parent s-indacene. As an initial evaluation, the intermolecular electronic couplings and electronic band structure of a diethynyl anti-IDBT derivative reveal the potential for hole and / or electron transport. OFETs constructed using this molecule show the highest hole mobilities yet achieved for a fully conjugated IF derivative.
