Abstract
Borinic acids [R2B(OH)] and their chelate derivatives are a subclass of organoborane compounds used in cross-coupling reactions, catalysis, medicinal chemistry, polymer or optoelectronics materials. In this paper, we review the recent advances in the synthesis of diarylborinic acids and their four-coordinated analogs. The main strategies to build up borinic acids rely either on the addition of organometallic reagents to boranes (B(OR)3, BX3, aminoborane, arylboronic esters) or the reaction of triarylboranes with a ligand (diol, amino alcohol, etc.). After general practical considerations of borinic acids, an overview of the main synthetic methods, their scope and limitations is provided. We also discuss some mechanistic aspects.

Abstract
The solvatochromic behavior of two donor-π bridge-acceptor (D-π-A) compounds based on the 2-(3-boryl-2-thienyl)thiazole π-linker and indandione acceptor moiety are investigated. DFT/TD-DFT calculations were performed in combination with steady-state absorption and emission measurements, along with electrochemical studies, to elucidate the effect of two different strongly electron-donating hydrazonyl units on the solvatochromic and fluorescence behavior of these compounds. The Lippert–Mataga equation was used to estimate the change in dipole moments (Δµ) between ground and excited states based on the measured spectroscopic properties in solvents of varying polarity with the data being supported by theoretical studies. The two asymmetrical D-π-A molecules feature strong solvatochromic shifts in fluorescence of up to ~4300 cm−1 and a concomitant change of the emission color from yellow to red. These changes were accompanied by an increase in Stokes shift to reach values as large as ~5700–5800 cm−1. Quantum yields of ca. 0.75 could be observed for the N,N-dimethylhydrazonyl derivative in nonpolar solvents, which gradually decreased along with increasing solvent polarity, as opposed to the consistently reduced values obtained for the N,N-diphenylhydrazonyl derivative of up to ca. 0.20 in nonpolar solvents. These two push–pull molecules are contrasted with a structurally similar acceptor-π bridge-acceptor (A-π-A) compound.

Abstract
Tetra-coordinated boron compounds offer a plethora of luminescent materials. Different chelation around the boron center (O,O-, N,C-, N,O-, and N,N-) has been explored to tune the electronic and photophysical properties of tetra-coordinated boron compounds. A number of fascinating molecules with interesting properties such as aggregation induced emission, mechanochromism and tunable emission by changing the solvent polarity were realised. Owing to their rich and unique properties, some of the molecules have shown applications in making optoelectronic devices, probes and so on. This perspective provides an overview of the recent developments of tetra-coordinated boron compounds and their potential applications.

Abstract
Bis(dioxaborin) compounds containing π-conjugated systems have been studied as n-type semiconductors for organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). In this study, with the aim of investigating the effect of the extension of the π-conjugation on the n-type semiconducting properties and stability of bis(dioxaborin) compounds, we synthesized new compounds containing 2,2'-bithiophene derivatives extended with an olefin or an acetylene spacer. The absorption maxima of the compounds containing olefin spacers were greatly red-shifted compared with those of the original compound without a π-spacer. The newly synthesized compounds exhibited high electron affinity, and the olefin spacers effectively reduced the on-site Coulomb repulsion in the two-electron reduction of the compounds. An OFET fabricated using one of these compounds having a layer-by-layer crystal structure exhibited n-type semiconductor behavior with a low threshold voltage, most likely due to the small on-site Coulomb repulsion. The electron-transporting properties were investigated by theoretical calculations based on the Marcus theory.

Abstract
A one-pot procedure for the synthesis of tetrasubstituted dihydropyrimidine and pyrimidine derivatives from α-azidocinnamates was developed. The synthesis is based on the finding that the outcome of LED photolysis of α-azidocinnamates depends on the light wavelength employed. Blue light (455 nm) leads to the formation of 2H-azirines only, but violet light (395 nm), UV-A light (365 nm), or sunlight result in the transformation of the in situ formed 2H-azirines to 1,3-diazabicyclo[3.1.0]hex-3-enes. Under basic catalysis (DBU), the latter were isomerized to 1,6-dihydropyrimidines which were oxidized to pyrimidines using DDQ. A successful use of Cs2CO3 as a base and air as an oxidant was also demonstrated.

Abstract
Panchromatic molecules, e. g. organic small molecules with wide absorption spectra, are very desirable for solar energy-related applications. Here, we report the development of a series of organoboron compounds composed of an organoboron core unit, two π-bridging units and two electron-withdrawing end-capping units. All seven molecules have the HOMO localized on the core unit and the LUMO delocalized on the whole conjugated backbone. They exhibit wide absorption spectra consisting of two strong absorption bands with the full width at half maximum of ca. 280 nm. These panchromatic compounds can be used as electron acceptors in organic solar cells. We elucidate the relationship between the chemical structures and opto-electronic properties of these organoboron panchromatic compounds. Increasing the electron-withdrawing capability of the core units results in a downshifted HOMO level as well as blueshifted long-wavelength absorption band with increased extinction coefficient. Extending the π-bridging units causes an increased HOMO level and blueshifted long-wavelength absorption band with increased extinction coefficients. Weakening the electron-withdrawing capability of the end-capping units leads to an upshifted LUMO level and blueshifted long-wavelength absorption peak with decreased extinction coefficient. This work provides insight into the absorption spectrum manipulation of panchromatic molecules and would pave the way for the development of solar energy-related applications.

Abstract
Access to a new class of oxazaborinines using an efficient transition-metal-catalyzed rearrangement is demonstrated. The method overcomes the synthetic challenge of achieving an aza-Claisen rearrangement of vinylogous N-allylic amide substrates, giving rise to a variety of highly modifiable oxazaborinine products. An investigation of the unique reactivity of these boron-based heterocycles has unveiled their underexplored potential as valuable building blocks and intermediates for organic synthesis.
