Abstract
Although hypervalent iodine(III) reagents have become staples in organic chemistry, the exploration of their isoelectronic counterparts, namely hypervalent bromine(III) and chlorine(III) reagents, has been relatively limited, partly due to challenges in synthesizing and stabilizing these compounds. In this study, we conduct a thorough examination of both homolytic and heterolytic bond dissociation energies (BDEs) critical for assessing the chemical stability and functional group transfer capability of cyclic hypervalent halogen compounds using density functional theory (DFT) analysis. A moderate linear correlation was observed between the homolytic BDEs across different halogen centers, while a strong linear correlation was noted among the heterolytic BDEs across these centers. Furthermore, we developed a predictive model for both homolytic and heterolytic BDEs of cyclic hypervalent halogen compounds using machine learning algorithms. The results of this study could aid in estimating the chemical stability and functional group transfer capabilities of hypervalent bromine(III) and chlorine(III) reagents, thereby facilitating their development.

Abstract
A main-group catalysis-based strategy to access 8-membered carbocycles via the direct carbofunctionalization of 2-phenethyl-substituted 1,3-dienes is disclosed. Through the intervention of an I(I)/I(III) catalysis cycle, the synthesis of densely functionalized, fluorinated benzocyclooctenes can be achieved in an operationally simple manner. Modulating the oxidation/activation regime, and the external nucleophile, the process has been extended to unify the challenging cyclization with formation of allylic C-O, C-N, and C-C bonds (>30 examples). Derivatization of the product benzocyclooctenes is demonstrated together with X-ray conformational analysis, preliminary validation of enantioselective catalysis and a scalable resolution protocol.

Abstract
Hypervalent fluoro-λ3-iodanes have emerged as versatile reagents that provide unusual fluorination selectivities under mild reaction conditions. Here, we report on adding a semipinacol rearrangement, fluorination, and aryl migration cascade reaction of styrene derivatives. Thus, various cyclopentanones became accessible in up to 96% yield, all bearing tertiary C,F-carbon centers adjacent to the ketone group. Such fluorinated structural motifs are difficult to build with previously established methods. Preliminary experiments on enantioselective processes validated that asymmetric transformations are likewise feasible.

Abstract
As an ambident nucleophile, controlling the reaction selectivities of nitrogen and oxygen atoms in amide moiety is a challenging issue in organic synthesis. Herein, we present a chemodivergent cycloisomerization approach to construct isoquinolinone and iminoisocoumarin skeletons from o-alkenylbenzamide derivatives. The chemo-controllable strategy employed an exclusive 1,2-aryl migration/elimination cascade, enabled by different hypervalent iodine species generated in situ from the reaction of iodosobenzene (PhIO) with MeOH or 2,4,6-tris-isopropylbenzene sulfonic acid. DFT studies revealed that the nitrogen and oxygen atoms of the intermediates in the two reaction systems have different nucleophilicities and thus produce the selectivity of N or O-attack modes.

Abstract
Herein, hypervalent iodine-catalyzed halogenation of aryl-activated alkenes using BX3 (X = Cl, Br) as the halogen source and activating reagents was reported. Various halogenated 1,3-oxazine/2-oxazoline derivatives were obtained in good-to-high yields. Using BF3 resulted in different substitute sites from BBr3 and BCl3 of the products, indicating different reactive intermediates and reaction pathways. The reaction underwent a "ligand coupling/oxidative addition/intermolecular nucleophilic attack/1,2-aryl migration/reductive elimination/intramolecular nucleophilic attack" cascade when BF3 was applied as the halogen source, while 1,2-aryl migration has "disappeared" when the halogen source was BBr3 or BCl3. Possible catalytic cycles were proposed, and DFT calculations were conducted to demonstrate the differences among BX3 (X = F, Cl, Br) in the hypervalent iodine-catalyzed halogenations.

Abstract
The regio- and enantio-selective, intermolecular vicinal fluoroamination of α-trifluoromethyl styrenes has been achieved by enantioselective II /IIII catalysis. Leveraging C2 -symmetric resorcinol-based aryl iodide catalysts, it has been possible to intercept the transient iodonium intermediate using simple nitriles, which function as both the solvent and nucleophile. In situ Ritter reaction provides direct access to the corresponding amides (up to 89 % yield, e.r. 93 : 7). This main group catalysis paradigm inverts the intrinsic regioselectivity of the uncatalyzed process, thereby providing facile access to tertiary, benzylic stereocenters bearing both CF3 and F groups. Privileged phenethylamine pharmacophores can be generated in which there is complete local partial charge inversion (CF3δ- /Fδ- versus CH3δ+ /Hδ+ ). Crystallographic analyses of representative β-fluoroamide products reveal highly pre-organized conformations that manifest the stereoelectronic gauche effect.

Abstract
The success of saturated, fluorinated heterocycles in contemporary drug discovery provides a stimulus for creative endeavor in main group catalysis. Motivated by the ubiquity of isochromans across the bioactive small molecule spectrum, the prominence of the anomeric effect in regulating conformation, and the metabolic lability of the benzylic position, iodine(I)/iodine(III) catalysis has been leveraged for the stereocontrolled generation of selectively fluorinated analogs. To augment the current arsenal of fluorocyclization reactions involving carboxylic acid derivatives, the reaction of readily accessible 2-vinyl benzaldehydes is disclosed (up to >95 : 05 d.r. and 97 : 03 e.r.). Key stereoelectronic interactions manifest themselves in the X-ray crystal structures of the products, thereby validating the [CH2 -CHF] fragment as a stereoelectronic mimic of the [O-CH(OR)] acetal motif.

Abstract
Herein, we report a new strategy for carbon-carbon bond scission and intramolecular ring expansion fluorination of unactivated cyclopropanes, which was accomplished with a new hypervalent fluoroiodane(III) reagent 1. This novel method delivers medicinally relevant 4-fully substituted fluoropiperidines in moderate to high yields with excellent regio- and diastereoselectivity. Reagent 1, which has an N-acetylbenziodazole framework, was readily synthesized via three steps in 76 % overall yield and was characterized by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. Owing to the presence of a secondary I⋅⋅⋅O bonding interaction between the λ3 -iodane atom and the carbonyl oxygen of the acetyl group of the N-acetylbenziodazole framework, 1 has excellent stability and can be stored at ambient temperature for 6 months without any detectable decomposition. Density functional theory calculations and experimental studies showed that the reaction proceeds via a carbocation intermediate that readily combines with a fluoride ion to generate the product.

Abstract
A new and efficient strategy for the rapid formation of novel fluorinated tetrahydropyridazines and dihydrooxazines has been developed by fluorocyclisation of β,γ-unsaturated hydrazones and oximes with the fluoroiodane reagent. Mechanochemical synthesis delivered fluorinated tetrahydropyridazines in similar excellent yields to conventional solution synthesis, whereas fluorinated dihydrooxazines were prepared in much better yields by ball-milling.

Abstract
Fluorination using chiral catalytic methods could result in a direct access to asymmetric fluorine chemistry. However, challenges in catalytic asymmetric fluorinations, especially the longstanding stereochemical challenges existed in BF3·Et2O-based fluorinations, have not yet been addressed. Here we report the catalytic asymmetric nucleophilic fluorination using BF3·Et2O as the fluorine reagent in the presence of chiral iodine catalyst. Various chiral fluorinated oxazine products were obtained with good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee) and diastereoselectivities (up to >20:1 dr). Control experiments (the desired fluoro-oxazines could not be obtained when Py·HF or Et3N·3HF were employed as the fluorine source) indicated that BF3·Et2O acted not only as a fluorine reagent but also as the activating reagent for activation of iodosylbenzene. Catalytic asymmetric fluorination remains elusive, especially the longstanding stereochemical challenges which exist in BF3Et2O-based fluorinations. Here the authors show a catalytic asymmetric nucleophilic fluorination using BF3·Et2O as the fluorine reagent in the presence of chiral iodine catalyst.

Abstract
An efficient (3 + 2) cycloaddition triggered annulation is reported to access 1,3-benzoxazepine frameworks. With amine base, sulfamate-derived cyclic imines readily react with glycine aldimino esters to furnish benzo-fused seven-membered heterocyclic products in good yields. The cascade reaction involves the formation of one C-C, one C-N, and one C-O bond along with the cleavage of two C-N bonds and one S-O bond. The synthesis of o-tyrosine analogues has also been accomplished from annulation products.

Abstract
We report a strategy for effecting catalytic, enantioselective carbocationic rearrangements through the intermediacy of alkyl iodanes as stereodefined carbocation equivalents. Asymmetric Wagner-Meerwein rearrangements of β-substituted styrenes are catalyzed by the C2-symmetric aryl iodide 1 to provide access to enantioenriched 1,3-difluorinated molecules possessing interesting and well-defined conformational properties. Hammett and kinetic isotope effect studies, in combination with computational investigations, reveal that two different mechanisms are operative in these rearrangement reactions, with the pathway depending on the identity of the migrating group. In reactions involving alkyl-group migration, intermolecular fluoride attack is product- and enantio-determining. In contrast, reactions in which aryl rearrangement occurs proceed through an enantiodetermining intramolecular 1,2-migration prior to fluorination. The fact that both pathways are promoted by the same chiral aryl iodide catalyst with high enantioselectivity provides a compelling illustration of generality across reaction mechanisms in asymmetric catalysis.

Abstract
Activated aromatics were reacted with two different fluoroidoane reagents 1 and 2 in the presence of triflic acid to prepare only the para-substituted diaryliodonium salts. With fluoroiodane 1 the unsymmetrical diaryliodonium salts contained an ortho-propan-2-ol sidearm, whereas the alcohol sidearm was eliminated to form an ortho-styrene sidearm in the reaction with fluoroiodane 2. Only the diaryliodonium salts containing a styrene sidearm were fluorinated successfully to deliver para-fluorinated aromatics in good yields.

Abstract
A hypervalent iodane reagent used for the intramolecular cyclization of N-acetyl enamines and intermolecular cyclocondensation of enamines and nitriles was investigated. The reaction was performed under mild conditions and gave oxazoles and imidazoles, respectively, in moderate to excellent yields. This transformation exhibits good reactivity, selectivity and functional group tolerance. The selectivity of the intra- or intermolecular reaction is dependent on the structure of N-acetyl enamines.

Abstract
The enantio- and diastereoselective synthesis of 1,2-difluorides via chiral aryl iodide-catalyzed difluorination of cinnamamides is reported. The method uses HF-pyridine as a fluoride source and mCPBA as a stoichiometric oxidant to turn over catalyst, and affords compounds containing vicinal, fluoride-bearing stereocenters. Selectivity for 1,2-difluorination versus a rearrangement pathway resulting in 1,1-difluorination is enforced through anchimeric assistance from a N- tert-butyl amide substituent.

Abstract
The fluorination of organic molecules is a rapidly evolving and exciting field in synthesis, which still poses huge challenges despite the advances made in the past decades. Hypervalent iodine(iii) reagents, which have already proven their versatility as synthetic tools in organic chemistry, are currently on the rise in fluorination chemistry. With their ability to break new mechanistic grounds, they grant access to completely new reactivities and thus also to novel fluorinated structural scaffolds. This review aims to provide an overview of the achievements made in the iodine(iii) mediated fluorinations of aliphatic Csp2-carbon atoms with special focus on the opportunities provided by this exciting class of hypervalent substances.

Abstract
An efficient C1-difluoromethylation of tetrahydroisoquinolenes was achieved using TMSCF2SPh as a difluoromethylating agent and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxoammonium tetrafluoroborate (TEMPO+BF4-) as an oxidant. The process provides an access to a variety of C1-difluoro(phenylsulfanyl)methylated tetrahydroisoquinoline adducts in good yields. These adducts were employed as key precursors for preparing fluorinated pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinoline and benzo[a]quinolizidines.

Abstract
Azacyclo- and azabicycloalkanone peptidomimetics were synthesized regio- and diastereoselectively by iodoacetoxylation and transannular amidation reactions on unsaturated lactam precursors contingent on ring size, olefin position, solvent, and hypervalent iodine(III) reagent. 4-Iodopyrrolizidinone 1, 7-iodoindolizidinone 2, and 4-iodo-5-acetoxylactams (e.g., 6 and 7) were made stereospecifically from 7-9-membered olefins 16, iodine, and hypervalent iodine(III) in acetonitrile or toluene, respectively. X-ray crystallography demonstrated potential for mimicry of natural peptide turn side chain and backbone conformations.
