Abstract
A novel silver-catalyzed cascade radical isonitrile insertion and defluorinative cyclization have been developed to synthesize CF2H- and phosphinoyl-containing quinolines from ortho-isocyanyl α-trifluoromethylstyrenes. The reaction proceeded under redox-neutral conditions and allowed the construction of a highly attractive quinoline ring system, with the simultaneous formation of the CF2H group and introduction of various phosphinoyl groups in a single transformation, showing operational simplicity, a wide substrate scope, good tolerance for functional groups, and remarkable atom-/stepeconomy. Mechanistic studies indicated that the reaction is likely to involve the participation of P-centered radicals and key carbanion intermediates.

Abstract
Diverse, visible-light-induced transformations of methylenecyclopropanes (MCPs) have been reported in recent years, attracting significant attention from synthetic chemists. As readily accessible strained molecules, MCPs have sufficient reactivity to selectively generate different target products, through reactions with various radical species upon visible-light irradiation under regulated reaction conditions. These transformations can be classified into three subcategories of reaction pathway, forming ring-opened products, cyclopropane derivatives, and alkynes. These products include pharmaceutical intermediates and polycyclic/heterocyclic compounds that are challenging to obtain using traditional methods. This review summarizes the recent advancements in this field.

Abstract
A straightforward protocol for the synthesis of 11-trifluoromethylated dibenzodiazepines has been developed via TBAC-induced trifluoromethylation/cyclization of o-isocyanodiaryl amines using Togni's reagent as the trifluoromethyl source. This is the first report on the one-step construction of CF3-containing dibenzodiazepine drug skeletons. Additionally, a series of 11-trifluoromethylated dibenzodiazepines were afforded in moderate to excellent yields under transition-metal-free conditions.

Abstract
The synthesis of N-unprotected 2-aryl-3-cyanoindoles was realized via the Mn(III)-mediated radical cascade cyclization of o-alkenyl aromatic isocyanides with boronic acids. A possible mechanism involving a sequential intermolecular radical addition, intramolecular cyclization, and cleavage of the C-C bond under mild reaction conditions is proposed. Mechanism studies show that H2O or O2 might provide the oxygen source for the elimination of benzaldehyde.

Abstract
A thermally-induced intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition reaction of allylamino- or allyloxy-tethered alkylidenecyclopropanes has been reported in this paper, giving a new protocol for the rapid construction of polycyclic skeleton molecules in moderate to excellent yields with a broad substrate scope. On the basis of control experiments and DFT calculations, we disclosed that the reaction proceeded through a [4+2] cycloaddition and trace of water assisted 1,3-H shift process to give the target product.

Abstract
Classical cyclopropylcarbinyl radical clock reactions have been widely applied to conduct mechanistic studies for probing radical processes for a long time; however, alkylidenecyclopropanes, which have a similar molecular structure to methylcyclopropanes, surprisingly have not yet attracted researcher's attention for similar ring opening radical clock processes. In recent years, photocatalytic NHPI ester activation chemistry has witnessed significant blooming developments and provided new synthetic routes for cross-coupling reactions. Herein, we wish to report a non-classical ring opening radical clock reaction using innovative NHPI esters bearing alkylidenecyclopropanes upon photoredox catalysis, providing a brand-new synthetic approach for the direct preparation of a variety of alkynyl derivatives. The potential synthetic utility of this protocol is demonstrated in the diverse transformations and facile synthesis of bioactive molecules or their derivatives and medicinal substances.

Abstract
The functionalization of C-H bonds has become a major thread of research in organic synthesis that can be assessed from different angles, for instance depending on the type of catalyst employed or the overall transformation that is carried out. This review compiles recent progress in synthetic methodology that merges the functionalization of C-H bonds along with the cleavage of C-C bonds, either in intra- or intermolecular fashion. The manuscript is organized in two main sections according to the type of substrate in which the cleavage of the C-C bond takes place, basically attending to the scission of strained or unstrained C-C bonds. Furthermore, the related research works have been grouped on the basis of the mechanistic aspects of the different transformations that are carried out, i.e.,: (a) classic transition metal catalysis where organometallic intermediates are involved; (b) processes occurring via radical intermediates generated through the use of radical initiators or photochemically; and (c) reactions that are catalyzed or mediated by suitable Lewis or Brønsted acid or bases, where molecular rearrangements take place. Thus, throughout the review a wide range of synthetic approaches show that the combination of C-H and C-C cleavage in single synthetic operations can serve as a platform to achieve complex molecular skeletons in a straightforward manner, among them interesting carbo- and heterocyclic scaffolds.

Abstract
An efficient photocatalytic synthesis of phenanthridines mediated by an organo-photoredox initiator Hantzsch ester has been developed via denitrogenative intramolecular annulation of benzotriazolyl chalcones. The highly reducing photoactivated Hantzsch ester facilitates the transformation of benzotriazolyl chalcones into phenanthridinyl chalcones through photoinduced electron transfer (PET) and hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) processes. The mild reaction conditions utilizing inexpensive Hantzsch ester as photosensitizer, wide reaction scope and excellent functional group tolerance are notable attributes of the methodology.

Abstract
A novel rhodium/copper-cocatalyzed coupling–cyclization reaction of o-alkenyl arylisocyanides with vinyl azides has been developed. The reaction provides a new route to α-carbolines by the formation of two C–C bonds, one C–N bond and two aromatic rings in a single step.

Abstract
A visible-light metal-free photocatalytic synthesis of 3-position substituted 3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one derivatives under mild conditions in moderate to good yields is described. EosinY Na, an organic dye, which is of low cost and has good availability, is used as the photocatalyst. A wide range of substrates are tolerated and the gram-scale reaction can also proceed smoothly. Mechanistic studies indicate that a plausible free radical process is proposed.

Abstract
Isonitriles have excellent electronic compatibility to react with free radicals. Recently, photoredox catalysis has emerged as a powerful tool for the construction of C-C bonds with few protocols for alkylative heterocycle synthesis through isonitrile addition. Herein, we describe the photocatalytic generation of alkyl radicals from unactivated bromoalkanes as part of an efficient cross-coupling strategy for the diversification of isonitriles using a dimeric gold(I) photoredox catalyst, [Au2(dppm)2]Cl2.
