Abstract
Indolocarbazole alkaloids and their derivatives were discovered to have potent protein kinase and topoisomerase I inhibitory activities. Disclosed herein is the photochemical synthesis of the indolocarbazole ring system from N-allenyl-2-iodoanilines. The tandem protocol included visible-light-mediated 5-exo-trig radical cyclization and subsequent radical dimerization, followed by acid-promoted deprotection and intramolecular Mannich cyclization. This strategy showed exceptional functional group tolerance and was successfully applied in the concise synthesis of natural products tjipanazoles B and D.

Abstract
We report the first terminal trifluoromethylation at aryl and alkyl ketones' γ, δ, ε, or more remote sites via the selective C-C bond cleavage of cycloalkanols. The noncovalent interactions between alcohols and hypervalent iodines(III) reagents were disclosed to activate both alcohols and the Togni I reagent in the dual photoredox/copper catalysis for the transformation. This reaction was scalable to the gram-scale synthesis, applicable to the structurally complex steroid trifluoromethylation, and extendable to the pentafluoroethylation.

Abstract
A straightforward 2,2,2-trifluoroethylation of acrylamides by Pd-catalyzed C-H bond activation was reported by using a fluorinated hypervalent iodine reagent as a coupling partner. At room temperature, this additive-free approach allowed the synthesis of Z-2,2,2-trifluoroethylated acrylamides (19 examples, up to 73% yield) in a stereoselective manner. Under these mild reaction conditions, the methodology turned out to be functional group tolerant and mechanistic studies gave us a better understanding of the transformation.

Abstract
The photoredox-catalyzed α-aminoalkylcarboxylation of aryl allenes with CO2 and N,N-dimethylanilines is reported for the first time (26 examples, up to 96% yield). In the case of electron-deficient allenes, good regioselectivity was observed (up to 94:6), exclusively generating kinetic products over thermodynamic products. This protocol is a novel synthetic method for highly functionalized β,γ-unsaturated γ-aminobutyric esters.

Abstract
A novel visible-light-induced radical tandem trifluoromethylation/cyclization of unactivated alkenes with sodium perfluoroalkanesulfinates (Rf = CF3, C3F7, C4F9, C6F13, C8F17) under air atmosphere has been developed. A range of quinazolinones containing unactivated alkene moiety and sodium perfluoroalkanesulfinates were compatible with this transformation, leading to a variety of perfluoroalkyl-substituted quinazoline alkaloids. Remarkably, the experiment can be carried out without any metal catalyst, strong oxidant, or external photosensitizer.

Abstract
Mild mono- and di-hydrodehalogenative reductions of gem-dibromocyclopropanes are described, providing an easy and green approach towards the synthesis of cyclopropanes. The methodology utilizes 0.5-5 mol % TMPhen-nickel as the catalyst, which, when activated with a hydride source such as sodium borohydride, cleanly and selectively dehalogenates dibromocyclopropanes. Double reduction proceeds in a single operation at temperatures between 20-45 °C and at atmospheric pressure in an aqueous designer surfactant medium. At lower loading and either in the absence of ligand or in the presence of 2,2'-bipyridine, this new technology can also be used to gain access to not only monobrominated cyclopropanes, interesting building blocks for further use in synthesis, but also mono- or di-deuterated analogues. Taken together, this base-metal-catalyzed process provides access to cyclopropyl-containing products and is achieved under environmentally responsible conditions.

Abstract
A rhodium(III)-catalyzed redox-neutral coupling of α-trifluoromethylacrylic acid with bezamides proceeds smoothly accompanied by amide-directed C-H bond cleavage to produce β-[2-(aminocarbonyl)phenyl]-α-trifluoromethylpropanoic acid derivatives. One of the products can be transformed to a trifluoromethyl substituted heterocyclic compound. In addition, the redox-neutral coupling of α-trifluoromethylacrylic acid with related aromatic substrates possessing a nitrogen-containing directing group can also be conducted under similar conditions.

Abstract
Cu-catalyzed trifluoromethylthiolation-peroxidation of alkenes and allenes using AgSCF3 and tert-butyl hydroperoxide has been developed. The method provides a variety of β-SCF3 and β-vinyl-SCF3 peroxides with excellent regio- and chemo-selectivities.

Abstract
More than 50 years have passed since Haszeldine reported the first addition of a trifluoromethyl radical to an allene; in the intervening years, both the chemistry of allenes and the reactivity of single-electron species have become topics of intense interest. In this Review, we provide an overview of the fundamentals of radical additions to allenes and highlight the emergence of theoretical and experimental evidence that reveals unique reactivity patterns for radical additions to allenes as compared with other unsaturated compounds. Factors capable of exerting control over the chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivities of the attack of carbon- and heteroatom-based radicals at each of the three potential reactive sites in an allene substrate are described. These include reaction conditions, the nature of the attacking radical, the substitution pattern of the allene, and the length of the linker between the radical center and the proximal allene carbon in the substrate. Cycloaddition reactions between allenes and partners containing π-bonds, which are likely to proceed through radical pathways, are presented to highlight their ability to rapidly access complex polycyclic scaffolds. Finally, the synthetic utility of the products arising from these chemistries is described, including their applications to the construction of complex molecules.
