Synthesis of Porous Fe 3 C‐Based Composite Beads as Heterogeneous Oxidation Catalysts

Iron Active Center Coordination Reconstruction in Iron Carbide Modified on Porous Carbon for Superior Overall Water Splitting

In this work, a novel liquid nitrogen quenching strategy is engineered to fulfill iron active center coordination reconstruction within iron carbide (Fe3C) modified on biomass-derived nitrogen-doped porous carbon (NC) for initiating rapid hydrogen and oxygen evolution, where the chrysanthemum tea (elm seeds, corn leaves, and shaddock peel, etc.) is treated as biomass carbon source within Fe3C and NC. Moreover, the original thermodynamic stability is changed through the corresponding force generated by liquid nitrogen quenching and the phase transformation is induced with rich carbon vacancies with the increasing instantaneous temperature drop amplitude. Noteworthy, the optimizing intermediate absorption/desorption is achieved by new phases, Fe coordination, and carbon vacancies. The Fe3C/NC-550 (550 refers to quenching temperature) demonstrates outstanding overpotential for hydrogen evolution reaction (26.3 mV at -10 mA cm-2) and oxygen evolution reaction (281.4 mV at 10 mA cm-2), favorable overall water splitting activity (1.57 V at 10 mA cm-2). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further confirm that liquid nitrogen quenching treatment can enhance the intrinsic electrocatalytic activity efficiently by optimizing the adsorption free energy of reaction intermediates. Overall, the above results authenticate that liquid nitrogen quenching strategy open up new possibilities for obtaining highly active electrocatalysts for the new generation of green energy conversion systems.

Full use of factors promoting catalytic performance of chitosan supported manganese porphyrin

In order to make full use of the impact of internal and external factors on the performance of title catalyst for ethyl benzene oxidation, the key internal influencing factors on the catalytic performance were modulated by coordinating and grafting manganese porphyrin to mesoporous and macroporous chitosan, and the important external factors (i.e. oxidation reaction conditions) were optimized using Response Surface Methodology. Under the Response Surface Methodology optimized oxidation reaction conditions (176.56 °C, 0.59 MPa, and 0.25 mg amount of manganese porphyrin), the catalyst could be used at least five times. The ethyl benzene conversion, catalyst turnover numbers, and yields reached up to 51.2%, 4.37 × 106 and 36.4% in average, respectively. Compared with the other optimized oxidation reaction conditions, the corresponding values increased 17%, 26% and 53%. Relative to the manganese porphyrin, the catalytic performance and efficiency of the immobilized catalyst had notably increased.

Ion-Exchange Fabrication of Hierarchical Al-MOF-Based Resin Catalysts for the Tandem Reaction

Metal-organic framework (MOF)-supported macroscale resin catalysts, IRA900(xOH)-MIL-101(Al)-NH₂ (x means the concentration of NaOH), with spatially isolated antagonistic acid-base active sites were successfully synthesized through a novel strategy by ion exchange and in situ solvothermal methods. The hierarchical pore system of the as-prepared catalysts effectively promotes the mass transfer and contacts with catalytic active centers during the organic reactions. Therefore, the environmentally friendly catalysts exhibit excellent superior activity and stability in one-pot deacetalization-Knoevenagel condensation reaction, and the yield by optimal IRA900(0.2OH)-MIL-101(Al)-NH₂ reaches close to 99% after 5 h at 110 °C. Thanks to the millimeter-sized resin carrier and robust sphere morphology, the recycling of the as-prepared catalysts only requires natural sedimentation. This work presents an effective strategy to build low-toxic acid-base catalysts by combining the advantages of ion-exchange resins and functionalized MOF materials.
