Abstract
Procedures for the preparation of transition metal complexes having intact bicyclic cepham or penam systems as ligands have been developed. Starting from readily available 4-azido-2-azetidinones, a synthetic approach has been tuned using a copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition between 3-azido-2-azetinones and alkynes, followed by methylation and transmetalation to Au(I) and Ir(III) complexes from the mesoionic carbene Ag(I) complexes. This methodology was applied to 6-azido penam and 7-azido cepham derivatives to build 6-(1,2,3-triazolyl)penam and 7-(1,2,3-triazolyl)cepham proligands, which upon methylation and metalation with Au(I) and Ir(III) complexes yielded products derived from the coordination of the metal to the penam C6 and cepham C7 positions, preserving intact the bicyclic structure of the penicillin and cephalosporin scaffolds. The crystal structure of complex 28b, which has an Ir atom directly bonded to the intact penicillin bicycle, was determined by X-ray diffraction. This is the first structural report of a penicillin-transition-metal complex having the bicyclic system of these antibiotics intact. The selectivity of the coordination processes was interpreted using DFT calculations.

Abstract
VCD analysis of 16 diastereomeric pairs of NHC precursors containing two isolated chirality centers and different substitution patterns identified VCD transitions characteristic of the chirality center in the imidazolium ring or in the side chain, which, in contrast to ECD and OR, could be utilized to assign the two chirality centers separately by simple comparison, regardless of the type and position of achiral aromatic substituents. While the ECD and OR data showed great dependence on the position of an achiral substituent such as a methoxy group, characteristic experimental VCD transitions remained consistent and they could be used to determine the absolute configuration of all the regio- and stereoisomers and substituted analogues. VCD, ECD and OR approaches were evaluated, and several carbene precursors were found, for which only the VCD method could distinguish the four stereoisomers. With t-butyl, phenyl or 2-naphthyl substituents at the C-1′ chirality center, the ECD spectra of the C-1′ epimers were near-identical, and hence it was only the VCD approach that showed distinct differences suitable for the configurational assignment. The chiroptical characterization of our diastereomeric pairs of NHC precursors enables the future application of related derivatives having different substitution patterns in stereoselective transformations.

Abstract
Mesoionic carbenes (MICs) of the 1,2,3-triazolylidene type have established themselves as a popular class of compounds over the past decade. Primary reasons for this popularity are their modular synthesis and their strong donor properties. While such MICs have mostly been used in combination with transition metals, the past few years have also seen their utility together with main group elements. In this paper, we present an overview of the recent developments on this class of compounds that include, among others, (i) cationic and anionic MIC ligands, (ii) the donor/acceptor properties of these ligands with a focus on the several methods that are known for estimating such donor/acceptor properties, (iii) a detailed overview of 3d metal complexes and main group compounds with these MIC ligands, (iv) results on the redox and photophysical properties of compounds based on MIC ligands, and (v) an overview on electrocatalysis, redox-switchable catalysis, and small-molecule activation to highlight the applications of compounds based on MIC ligands in contemporary chemistry. By discussing several aspects from the synthetic, spectroscopic, and application point of view of these classes of compounds, we highlight the state of the art of compounds containing MICs and present a perspective for future research in this field.

Abstract
TTF- and exTTF-containing [(μ-S2)Fe2(CO)6] complexes have been prepared by the photochemical reaction of TTF or exTTF and [(μ-S2)Fe2(CO)6]. These complexes are able to interact with PAHs. In the absence of air and in acid media an electrocatalytic dihydrogen evolution reaction (HER) occurs, similarly to analogous [(μ-S2)Fe2(CO)6] complexes. However, in the presence of air, the TTF and exTTF organic moieties strongly influence the electrochemistry of these systems. The reported data may be valuable in the design of [FeFe] hydrogenase mimics able to combine the HER properties of the [FeFe] cores with the unique TTF properties.

Abstract
Cyclometallated complexes are well-known and have found many applications. This article provides a short review on the progress made in the synthesis and application to catalysis of cyclometallated half-sandwich Cp*Ir(III) complexes (Cp*: pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) since 2017. Covered in the review are iridacycles featuring conventional C,N chelates and less common metallocene and carbene-derived C,N and C,C ligands. This is followed by an overview of the studies of their applications in catalysis ranging from asymmetric hydrogenation, transfer hydrogenation, hydrosilylation to dehydrogenation.

Abstract
A series of chiral cyclometalated iridium complexes have been synthesised by cyclometalating chiral 2-aryl-oxazoline and imidazoline ligands with [Cp*IrCl2]2. These iridacycles were studied for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reactions with formic acid as the hydrogen source and were found to display various activities and enantioselectivities, with the most effective ones affording up to 63% ee in the asymmetric reductive amination of ketones and 77% ee in the reduction of pyridinium ions.

Abstract
The photoreaction of [(μ-S)2Fe2(CO)6] and alkenes or alkynes has been optimized to readily obtain functionalized [FeFe]-hydrogenase mimics. Irradiation under low CO pressure in THF produces the corresponding photo-adducts in good/acceptable (alkenes/alkynes) yields, with retention of the starting olefin stereochemistry. DFT-calculations provide plausible reaction pathways in both, singlet and triplet states. The DFT-calculation based in the singlet state is energetically more favorable. The electrochemical behavior of the synthesized compounds is also presented, including studies in acidic media. The electrochemical properties of the products vary in the presence of a double bond (cycloaddition of [(μ-S)2Fe2(CO)6] to alkynes), respect to a single bond (cycloaddition to alkenes). The photochemistry of [(μ-S)2Fe2(CO)6] and alkenes or alkynes has been developed to a synthetically useful level. Computational data and electrochemistry of the photoadducts show interesting properties of these compounds.![]()
