Abstract
A highly efficient and elegant diversity-oriented reaction paradigm employing atropaldehyde acetals as new dual C2/C3 synthons was developed under metal-free conditions using glycine esters as the counterpart reagents, which allowed rapid synthesis of two important nitrogen-containing heterocycles, pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinolines and 3,5-diarylpyridines. The divergent products are subtly controlled by the manipulation of the substitutional groups of glycine esters. When a N-arylglycine ester was used, pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinolines can be formed through cascade oxidative C-C cleavage/multiple cyclization. Instead, N-benzylglycine ester as the counter-reagent led to the synthesis of 3,5-diarylpyridines via two key C-N cleavages. Mild conditions, broad substrate scope, scalability and environmentally acceptable organic solvents rendered this method practical and attractive.

Abstract
Abstract:
Abstract: This unprecedented review with 322 references provides a critical up-to-date picture of the Pd-catalysed intermolecular direct C–H bond arylation of heteroarenes with arylating reagents alternative to aryl halides that include aryl sulfonates (aryl triflates, tosylates, mesylates, and imidazole-1-sulfonates), diaryliodonium salts, [(diacetoxy)iodo]arenes, arenediazonium salts, 1-aryltriazenes, arylhydrazines and N’-arylhydrazides, arenesulfonyl chlorides, sodium arenesulfinates, arenesulfinic acids, and arenesulfonohydrazides. Particular attention has been paid to summarise the preparation of the various arylating reagents and to highlight the practicality, versatility, and limitations of the various developed arylation protocols, also comparing their results with those achieved in analogous Pd-catalysed arylation reactions involving the use of aryl halides as electrophiles. Mechanistic proposals have also been briefly summarised and discussed. However, data concerning Pd-catalysed direct C–H bond arylations involving the C–H bonds of aryl substituents of the examined heteroarene derivatives have not been taken into account.

Abstract
In the direct C–H arylation with arylhalogenides in the presence of Pd(OAc)2, trifluoromethyl-containing antipyrine reacts very slowly and incompletely owing to the low nucleophilicity of its C4 center. However, it was effective in modifying polyfluoroalkyl-substituted 4-bromo- and 4-iodo antipyrines by the Suzuki and Sonogashira reactions. It was established that using Pd2(dba)3 as catalyst and XPhos as phosphine ligand was the optimal catalytic system for the synthesis of 4-aryl- and 4-phenylethynyl-3-polyfluoroalkyl-antipyrines. Moreover, iodo-derivatives as the initial reagents were found to be more advantageous compared to bromo-containing analogs. It was found that 4-phenylethynyl-5-CF3-antipyrine has a moderate activity against the influenza virus A/Puerto Rico/8/34 (H1N1) and 4-iodo-5-CF3-antipyrine reveals a weak activity against the vaccine virus (strain Copenhagen) and bovine diarrhea virus (strain VC-1). Abstract
The direct functionalization of two different C-H bonds of the same organic molecule using different procedures - also called regiodivergent C-H bond functionalization - currently represents an important research topic in organic chemistry, as it demonstrates the versatility of C-H bond functionalization methodology. Over the last decade, the number of tools to control such regiodivergent C-H bond functionalizations has increased significantly. In this account, we will present the various tools that allowed us to arylate different positions of various (hetero)arenes, via a C-H bond functionalization, using palladium or ruthenium catalysis.

Efficient Electrochemical Reduction of CO2 to CO in Ionic Liquid/Propylene Carbonate Electrolyte on Ag Electrode. Catalysts 2020. Abstract
The electrochemical reduction of CO2 is a promising way to recycle it to produce value-added chemicals and fuels. However, the requirement of high overpotential and the low solubility of CO2 in water severely limit their efficient conversion. To overcome these problems, in this work, a new type of electrolyte solution constituted by ionic liquids and propylene carbonate was used as the cathodic solution, to study the conversion of CO2 on an Ag electrode. The linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), Tafel characterization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to study the catalytic effect and the mechanism of ionic liquids in electrochemical reduction of CO2. The LSV and Tafel characterization indicated that the chain length of 1-alkyl-3-methyl imidazolium cation had strong influences on the catalytic performance for CO2 conversion. The EIS analysis showed that the imidazolium cation that absorbed on the Ag electrode surface could stabilize the anion radical (CO2•−), leading to the enhanced efficiency of CO2 conversion. At last, the catalytic performance was also evaluated, and the results showed that Faradaic efficiency for CO as high as 98.5% and current density of 8.2 mA/cm2 could be achieved at −1.9 V (vs. Fc/Fc+).

Abstract
Carbon-sulfur bond cross-coupling has become more and more attractive as an alternative protocol to establish carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds. Diverse transformations through transition-metal-catalyzed C-S bond activation and cleavage have recently been developed. This review summarizes the advances in transition-metal-catalyzed cross-coupling via carbon-sulfur bond activation and cleavage since late 2012 as an update of the critical review on the same topic published in early 2013 (Chem. Soc. Rev., 2013, 42, 599-621), which is presented by the categories of organosulfur compounds, that is, thioesters, thioethers including heteroaryl, aryl, vinyl, alkyl, and alkynyl sulfides, ketene dithioacetals, sulfoxides including DMSO, sulfones, sulfonyl chlorides, sulfinates, thiocyanates, sulfonium salts, sulfonyl hydrazides, sulfonates, thiophene-based compounds, and C[double bond, length as m-dash]S functionality-bearing compounds such as thioureas, thioamides, and carbon disulfide, as well as the mechanistic insights. An overview of C-S bond cleavage reactions with stoichiometric transition-metal reagents is briefly given. Theoretical studies on the reactivity of carbon-sulfur bonds by DFT calculations are also discussed.

Abstract
Transition metal-catalyzed C-H bond functionalizations have been the focus of intensive research over the last decades for the formation of C-C bonds from unfunctionalized arenes, heteroarenes, alkenes. These direct transformations provide new approaches in synthesis with high atom- and step-economy compared to the traditional catalytic cross-coupling reactions. However, such methods still suffer from several limitations including functional group tolerance and the lack of regioselectivity. In addition, they often require harsh reaction conditions and some of them need the use of strong oxidant, in a stoichiometric amount, avoiding these processes to be truly eco-friendly. The use of photoredox catalysis has contributed to a significant expansion of the scope of C(sp2)-H bond functionalizations which include the direct arylations, (perfluoro)alkylations, acylations, and even cyanations. Most of these transformations involve the photochemical induced generation of a radical followed by its regioselective addition to arenes, heteroarenes, or alkenes, leading to the building of a new C(sp2)-C bond. The use of photoredox catalysis plays crucial roles in these reactions promoting electron transfer, enabling the generation of radical species and single electron either oxidation or reduction. Such reactions operating at room temperature allow the building of C-C bonds with high chemo-, regio-, or stereoselectivity. This review surveys the formation of C(sp2)-C bonds initiated by photoredox catalysis which involves a C(sp2)-H bond functionalization step, describes the advantages compared to traditional C(sp2)-H bond functionalizations, and presents mechanistic insights into the role played by the photoredox catalysts.

Abstract
Green, inexpensive, and robust copper-based heterogeneous catalysts achieve 100 % conversion and 99 % selectivity in the conversion of furfural to furfuryl alcohol when using cyclopentyl-methyl ether as green solvent and microwave reactors at low H2 pressures and mild temperatures. The utilization of pressurized microwave reactors produces a 3-4 fold increase in conversion and an unexpected enhancement in selectivity as compared to the reaction carried out at the same conditions using conventional autoclave reactors. The enhancement in catalytic rate produced by microwave irradiation is temperature dependent. This work highlights that using microwave irradiation in the catalytic hydrogenation of biomass-derived compounds is a very strong tool for biomass upgrade that offers immense potential in a large number of transformations where it could be a determining factor for commercial exploitation.

Abstract
We report herein a two or three step synthesis of fluorinated π-conjugated oligomers through iterative C-H bond arylations. Palladium-catalyzed desulfitative arylation of heteroarenes allowed in a first step the synthesis of fluoroaryl-heteroarene units in high yields. Then, the next steps involve direct arylation with aryl bromides catalyzed by PdCl(C3H5)(dppb) to afford triad or tetrad heteroaromatic compounds via regioselective activation of C(sp(2))-H bonds.
